The Collect

“In everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to God” (Phil 4:6). What is the Collect? The origin of the term refers to the prayer made by the people “collected together in one place” and to the “collecting up” of the petitions of the many into one single prayer. The Collect concludes the Introductory Rites of the Mass.

The Collect is made up of four elements. (1) The priest, by saying, “Let us pray,” invites the faithful to make their petitions to God in a silent supplication. (2) The faithful respond by praying in silence. (3) The priest collects the prayers of the many into a single solemn prayer and presents it to God through Christ. (4) The faithful respond “Amen,” placing the seal of their assent on the prayer offered by the priest.

Read the Collect of today’s Mass and take it to heart. It will teach you how to call upon God, remind you of what his power has done in the past, teach you to ask wisely for his grace in the present, and invest your prayer with the joyous assurance that comes from going to God “through Christ our Lord.”

Dear Parish Family, As you may have noticed, offertory giving and building fund contributions are falling short of our budget for the year to date. As you may remember, we are on a calendar year and our year closes December 31st. The parish strives to be the best steward of the financial resources God provides and needs your continued support to meet the ongoing needs for our parish programs and maintenance of our facilities. As you plan your year end giving and we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ together, please prayerfully consider helping to bridge the gap of $19,000 in our offertory fund and $29,000 in our building fund.

Thank you for your financial support of our Parish throughout the year. May God bless you!

Liturgical Ministers

Please fill in the gaps for the Holy Day Masses and next weekend. Sign up sheet is on the Information Desk in the Gathering Space

Thank You!

I was privileged to be able to concelebrate Mass inside the house on Saturday morning, and to take part in the Vigil Rosary, Mass, and Procession for the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto Saturday night. Please know that I remembered you, Fr. Wyman, and all the parishioners of the Annunciation during my Masses and other times of prayer in the house. It was a great joy for me to pray for all of you in the place where the Annunciation happened!

Page 7: ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD CATHOLIC CHURCH · 12/24/2017  · C.C.W. (Council of Catholic Women) CCW will meet on Wednesday, January 3rd, at 10:30 AM in Room A. All ladies in the parish

Breaking Bread is the name the early Followers of Jesus gave to the celebration we now call the Mass. The Mass is at the heart of the Church’s life. It can therefore be at the heart of our lives. We can make it more meaningful to our journey of faith by understanding its roots to the Seder, Jesus’ dynamic changes He made to it which gave a deeper spiritual and infinite meaning to the celebration. The Mass can transcend all of us to a level of understanding, emotion, and personal spirituality that gives us an awareness of the Divine Presence and a peace that the world cannot give. “Come and See.” Jn. 1:39

Tuesday evenings beginning January 16 @ 6:30 PM and continues on January 23, 30, & February 6

All are welcome from juniors in high school through the wisest among us.

Deacon Bob Laremore and wife Becky have three children and eight grandchildren. He attended St. Meinrad Seminary in high school receiving theology instruction and daily living the church. He graduated from Marian University with a BS and a Cognate in Theology. He was ordained in 1982 from the four year Dallas Diaconate Formation Program which used the University of Dallas' Master in Theological Studies Program as their academics. He continued his theological studies at the University of Dallas for another year. He came to Alabama through Glenmary Home Missioners.

By way of introduction, Becky attended the Catholic Franciscan girls high school in Oldenburg, Indiana and attended Marian University with a major in Theology along with her degree in Secondary Education. She obtained a degree in Primary Education from the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas. She obtained her Masters in Education from Alabama University. She attended the Dallas Diaconate Formation program and the Ft. Worth Lay Ministry Program in association with the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

For those who do not like to get out at night, a repeat of the presentation will be given on Wednesday mornings beginning January 17 @ 10:00 AM

and continues to January 24, 31, & February 7

Our Lady of Loreto Shrine in Italy.

Fr. Kevin Bazzel shared this picture of the Shrine of Our Lady of Loreto. Ancient tradition tells us that the walls of the Shrine existed in Nazareth, Galilea. The Holy House kept inside of these walls is the same house where Mary was born, grew up, and received the annunciation of the Lord from the angel Gabriel. Fr. Bazzel was privileged to be able to concelebrate Mass inside the house and take part in the Vigil Rosary, Mass, and Procession for the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto Saturday. He wanted us to know that he remembered all the parishioners of Annunciation of the Lord parish during his Masses and other times of prayer in the house. It was a great joy for him to pray for all of us in the place where the Annunciation happened!

Currently 45 students at St. Ann School are benefiting from this program and St. Ann School is benefiting from their presence. Additionally, a scholarship can follow a student who graduates from St. Ann School and goes on to a Catholic high school. What a gift to the child, his/her family, our community and our Church!

Please help us continue the tradition at St. Ann School...

Thanks for considering this investment in a child’s future.

Scholarship for Kids, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)3 scholarship granting organization created in response to the Alabama Accountability Act (AAA). The AAA is part of a national movement to encourage school choice for parents without regard to ability to pay. This focus closely parallels one of the missions of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Birmingham thus creating a fitting working relationship for all diocesan schools. Under current Alabama law, a scholarship granting organization cannot award, restrict, or reserve scholarships on the basis of a donor’s restriction or condition. Similarly, a taxpayer may not claim a tax credit for a contribution that is restricted or conditioned by the donor, including a restriction or condition requiring that the donor’s contribution must be directed to a particular student or to a particular school.

Since the inception of the

Scholarships for Kids program,

St. Ann School has received $560,000 with

$187,000 expected this school year.

Stewardship

Like Mary, good stewards remain open to the incursions of divine life into the normal course of their daily lives. How open are we to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our own lives?

If you are thinking about purchasing a gift card as a Christmas present, a Birthday present, a Thank You, etc. please check out our SCRIP table. Instead of a merchant selling gift cards and making a profit - let St. Ann School sell you the same gift card and make the profit. SCRIP cards are gift cards - what you pay for them is what they are worth - BUT St. Ann School makes a profit of a certain percent of the face value depending on the card.

Scrip profits were $313.78 last week! Thank you so much! SCRIP gift cards help support our school with just a little bit of effort on your part. Scrip coverage may be limited this weekend due to family Christmases and travel. Scrip is available in the Parish Office during regular business hours.
