Ao Nang() is the busiest beach destination in Thailand's Krabi Province.

FormallyAo Phra Nang("Princess Bay") although everybody uses the short form, o !ang is the most

"esterni#ed" beach in Krabi, originally a bac$%ac$er hots%ot but no& moving slo&ly u%mar$et as the

air%ort brings in higher flyers. hile not uite as scenic asai eh, there is a good range of chea%

accommodation, many good restaurants, easy trans%ort and travel*tour agencies ready to cater to your

every &him, ma$ing it a good base for e+%loring Krabi.

rienting yourself in o !ang is easy- almost everything is located either along the beach, &hich runs

&esteast, or along the Airport Road(/&y 0123) &hich goes u% north from the east end of the beach.

ongtail boats arrive on the beach near the 4unction of the t&o roads5 these longtails, though, create a

%roblem- the level of noise %ollution arising from an endless stream of undam%ened boat motors during

high season is substantial. s long as visitors are ever increasing this %roblem &ill continue to &orsen anddetract from the beauty of this beach.

Krabi 6nternational ir%ortis about 02 minutes a&ay by car. s of 1227, the local air%ort limo mono%oly

charges a fairly stee% 822 baht for a transfer (u% to 0 %eo%le). 9any hotels &ill arrange a %ic$u% at similar

%rices on reuest. Travel time is about half an hour.

ocal shuttle buses : really 4ust converted %ic$u% truc$s (songthaew) : run from o !ang to Krabi

(72baht) and from Krabi to the air%ort (72 baht). The total tri% bet&een o !ang and the air%ort ta$es little

Fossil Shell Beach(Thai Su-san Hoi, literally "@eashell =raveyard"). @ome ; $m &est of o

!ang, this mildly tourist tra%li$e attraction has slates of com%ressed, 02 million year old shellfish,

&hich bear a small resemblance to concrete. There's also a small grubby museum and a huge

sle& of gift sho%s. Entry is a stee% 122 baht for foreigners, but only 12 baht for Thais. This touristtra% is sim%ly not &orth the 122 baht you have to %ay as tourists unless maybe you are a geology

student. s the official Krabi tourism &ebsite (rather honestly) states "most are either engrossed

in this or totally indifferent".

Nopparat Thara Beach. Picturesue beach at the &estern ti% of o !ang, #oned as a national

%ar$. >uring lo& tide you can &al$ u% to some of the nearby craggy limestone islands. /o&ever

as$ the locals if it is '4ellyfish season' before %lunging in if you are the only one getting ready to

ta$e a di%.

Rai Leh Beach. nice beach near o !ang, &hich can only be reached via a longtail boat. 6t is

actually %art of the mainland, but is cutoff by the limestone hills. The beach is cleaner than the

ones at o !ang and !o%%arat Thara, and there are some caves &orth e+%loring. There are also

hotels and resorts on the beach. 6n the offseason, it can be a drama to get there The longtails

&ant to collect A22 baht for the crossing, so they &ait for the reuired number of %assengers.

There are t&o com%anies &ho do this, one at the left end of the beach (facing the &ater) and the

other some several hundred metres to the right. 6f you do not get a return day tic$et you &ill have

to return &ith the other com%any. 6n the offseason, from 9ay, there are fe& tourists and you may

have to &ait a long time to get the reuired number of %assengers, or %ay the A22 baht yourself
