The geographical position of the Port, that is its multimodal
transport connection to the European regions, countries, rivers
and seas have significantly contributed to the choice of Pančevo
as the location where the powerful chemical industry would be
built, and which would, using its overall potentials ( including
river, railway and road infrastructure) help the successful
development of the domestic economy and its efficient
participation in the global division of labour. The aquatorium of
the factory Port, covering the area of nearly 30 hectares, is
and the complex of factory docks itself is located in the
immediate vicinity of Belgrade.
Due to its infrastructural potentials the „HIP-AZOTARA“
Port is connected to the following important routes: Pan-
European Corridor 7- the waterway stretching from the North
to the Black Sea through the Rhein-Main-Danube canal; the
Pan-European Corridor 10, going from the west of Europe and
passing through Pančevo; and The Serbian Railways-“ HIP-
AZOTARA“ Pančevo has at its disposal a marshalling yard
and over 15 kilometres of railway tracks used for the transport
of one million tonnes of goods per annum.
The Port’s dock is basin type. The width of the entrance is
120 meters, and basin itself enables the access of river-sea
ships of over 3000 t capacity. Under favourable hydrometeorological
conditions on the whole course of the Danube, the „HIP-AZOTARA“
Pančevo Port operates on average 345 days a year, which is
exactly the annual navigational period on the longest river in
European Union.
When in 1957 the construction of the
first phase of Chemical Industry Pančevo
was started, it was immediately followed
by the construction works on the 1800m long
navigable channel, and the dock of the future
450 m long and 200 m wide Port of „HIP-AZOTARA“
Pančevo. As the place where various forms of
transportation are connected and intersected, it
was originally used for quick and economical
delivery of equipment necessary for the construction
of <<Chemical Industry Pančevo>>, and then
for the delivery of the most important raw
materials for the production of nitric fertilizers,
as well as for the shipment of „ HIP-AZOTARA"’s
final products. Today, by providing services to an
increasing number of business partners and by
increasing the capacity of the overall port activities,
it has become a significant participant both in
international transport and international trade.
located at the 1152 kilometer of the left bank of the Danube,nd
The oblique quay. The pictures show a moored ship which carried an impressive industrial object: „The fractioner“-
53 m long, 6,99 m in diameter and weighing 213000 kg without steel girders. This object placed on the chassis reaches
the height of 9,86 m. In this position it was transported on special vehicles within the factory grounds, and then using the
public road it passed by the Azotara’s office building on its way to NIS Gazprom Neft’s Oil Refinery in Vojlovica near Pančevo.

Basin type docks
Cranes on the vertical quay
Loading hopper for limestone with belt conveyor
Unloading, reloading and loading of goods reach annual
quantities of 76 000 tonnes, however this is certainly not a
final and predetermined limit. Along the navigable part of the
dock there are two quays, closely linked- the oblique quay
200 meters long with one loading-unloading terminal and the
vertical quay 250 meters long with three loading-unloading
terminals.
Although both quays lie on very hard banks, the oblique
quay is especially equipped for the reloading of heavy cargo.
Its capacity reaches 1 800 tonnes. The heaviest cargo in the
Balkans, approximately 600 tonnes, was unloaded at this
quay and, as it was estimated by the experts, the quay
withstood. The vertical quay has the capacity of up to 450
tonnes. Virtually all types of cargo are received here: bulk
cargo and general cargo, but also cargo in bags of various
sizes, as well as on pallets.
The Port possesses three cranes of up to five tonnes
capacity, whereas the capacity for loading and unloading
the goods in bulk, jumbo bags (500 kg) and pallets ranges
from 600 to 800 tonnes a day.
The Port possesses a platform for loading the vessels from
tip trucks, and a loading hopper for trucks with the capacity
of 400 tonnes a day.
A 120 tonnes per hour capacity belt conveyor connects
the docks with the NPK complex and blended fertilizers
production plant.
At the eastern part of the dock there are two terminals
for liquid cargo. The older one is used for loading of
ammonia, and the newer one for loading of UAN on
ships. The UAN terminal has been in use since 2007
when >> HIP- AZOTARA<< started producing this
popular liquid nitrogen fertilizer.
The oblique quay. The pictures show
the ships that have arrived to the „HIP-
AZOTARA“ Pančevo Port after a long
journey down Rhein-Main-Danube
waterway, carrying exceptionally heavy
cargo. Two industrial objects:“Hydrocracker
reactor“ weighing 530350 kg and
„Hydrotreater reactor“ weighing 487900 kg
were efficiently reloaded in the „ HIP-
AZOTARA“ Pančevo Port and transported
using special vehicles to their final destination

The management of „ HIP-
AZOTARA“ Pančevo is dedicated
to continuous technical and
technological modernization
of the Port in order to improve
the Port’s infrastructure, expand
the range of activities, and increase
the speed of loading and unloading
ships, that is to reduce the retention
time of ships in the Port. The open
and enclosed storage facilities will
be expanded and improved within
a short time, and it is also expected
that the reloading of euro-disel and
LPG in the Port will be performed
in the near future. The increase in
the Port’s capacities will certainly
produce the increase in the
economic, environmental and
technological standards of all the
activities in the Port.
Infrastructure:
About 20000m² of enclosed storage space.

15,2 km railway tracks
Ship-loading terminal for liquid fertilizers
Four loading-unloading terminals for heavy, general and bulk cargo for various means of transport
Equipment:
Three portal cranes of 5t capacity
Funnel-shaped ship-loader for bulk cargo
Feeding hopper for limestone with conveyor belt
Raw materials feeding hopper for trucks
Two locomotives, 300 and 600 hp
Six forklifts
Seven loaders: Ult 160 and Ult 220
