My hat’s off with many thanks to Gary Godard for yet another successful Soccer Challenge.

He, with the assistance of Mike Duffy, had a field full of young boys and girls kicking for points

which earned the children certificates and trophies.

Also, recently our Knights fed the participants after the Friends of the Poor Walk. Again, this

event was a good example of Knights of Columbus manpower in action, for our Annunciation

Parish.

Our social meeting on October 20, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. will feature a video on the Life of Fr.

McGivney and history of the Knights of Columbus will be presented and our Lecturer will pro-

vide libation and snacks.

We shared Mass with many knights their ladies and parish members at our recent quarterly Cor-

porate Communion and parish brunch. James Vickaryous, Esq., a former parish member, spoke to us about the Rescue

Outreach Mission which is located in Sanford. He explained the humble beginnings from the work of one woman know as

Mother Belle Weaver to its size today which enables it to reach out to the poor and the homeless.

One of our smaller programs, but none the less significant programs is the “Keep Christ in Christmas” program. This event

gives us the opportunity to make available to the parish Christmas Cards and other Christmas Icons. Ed Cote and new

member John Linde have graciously agreed to co- chair this meaningful program. See either of them for details.

Let us join the parish community for the First, First Friday Mass at 7 P.M. It is a special time set aside for prayer and

contemplation.

Our next quarterly Corporate Communion Mass (10:00 A.M.) and Brunch will be on December 21, 2014 at which we

will enjoy the annual council Christmas party. Save the date and time now. The Christmas Party is an opportunity to cele-

brate the Blessed Season and socialize with fellow members and spouses. We will have a special menu and a special price.

We are scheduled for our booth at the AMWAY and The Florida Classic at the Citrus Bowl. These events replace our

Lenten Dinners and the Saint Patrick dance as our key fund raising efforts. Many in the Catholic Community as well as

others in need enjoy the benefit of the money that we raise. But, it won’t happen without you. See Jim Telesz as to how

you can be part of this outreach.

Deuteronomy 2:7 “The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your

journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked

anything.” So, my dear Brother Knights of Columbus, as we give time and energy to help others, we are helped and

blessed beyond measure.

The Knights of Columbus are recognized as “A pillar of the church.” The vision of Father McGivney survives and flour-

ishes because of what we do. Charity, Unity and Fraternity are not just words. We are more than just a civic club as, The

Knights of Columbus revolves around our faith in Christ. I cannot express to you enough to participate in our activities.

Dear Knights and Ladies, The challenges to peace in our world underscore the plea of our Blessed Mother to pray constantly for

the conversion of souls. She has reminded us that her Son can touch the hardest of hearts, and certainly we

pray that He will do so. Historically, we know that prayers for conversion are effective, as in the overthrow of

communism in the former Soviet Union.

Our Lord taught us the perfect prayer, the Our Father, which is contained in a very special devotion to

which the month of October is dedicated – the Holy Rosary. When each of us became knights, we received a

rosary, and instructions for its use.

Some may say, "Well, I know the Rosary is a wonderful devotion, but it's so repetitive." And, to be sure, the

Rosary does have prayers that are repeated, but if one meditates upon each mystery, and spreads the decades

throughout the day, it becomes a refreshing encounter with Our Lord and His mother. One can easily pray a

decade of the Rosary while waiting in our famous Central Florida traffic, or during a coffee break at work. In

fact, with the level of conversations in some workplaces, a quiet retreat for a few minutes of prayer would be

preferable.

The prayers of the Rosary may be said vocally or silently, but are intended to lead us to contemplation.

The Second Vatican Council, in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, reminds us that our devotions "should

be in accord with the sacred liturgy… in some way be derived from it, and lead the people to it." (n.13) The Ro-

sary does this because it is in harmony with the liturgical seasons and feasts; it recalls the great mysteries, and

so "is rightly honored …in the Church." (Lumen Gentium, n.66)

During the month of October, the Church celebrates the Holy Rosary. The

Rosary honors Mary, acknowledging her mediating role in and association with the

Incarnation, the Passion and the glorious Resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God. The Rosary celebrates not on-

ly the great mysteries of Our Lady, but also the paschal mysteries of Jesus, on which our Faith is built. Locally,

we will have a “Living Rosary” on Wednesday evening, the ninth of October, in the church – all are invited.

Pope Paul VI called the Rosary "the prayer so pleasing to Our Lady" and “an efficacious method of

spiritual elevation." Pope John Paul II called it "a very excellent means of prayer and mediation," and often

urged us to pray the Rosary daily, calling it one of his favorite prayers. In fact, Blessed John Paul II prayed all

twenty decades (including the new Luminous Mysteries of Our Lord's public life) every day. Popes Benedict

XVI and Francis have a similar love for the Rosary.

In the concluding prayer for the Rosary we ask "that, meditating upon these sacred mysteries, we may

imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise." Pray that Rosary daily, and pray it with love for

Our Lady and for her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Raising Awareness About Life Insurance

Each September since 2003 has been designated as Life Insurance Awareness Month. Like most awareness-raising campaigns, Life Insur-ance Awareness Month was created because there is an overwhelming lack of understanding of life insurance, its uses, its benefits, and its varia-tions among the general public. Each year, the Life Insurance Market Re-search Association (LIMRA) puts out the results from a recent survey, and unfortunately, the numbers they report continue to be discouraging. A re-cent survey found that more than 75 percent of people polled did not have a personal financial advisor, even though68 percent of them said their opinion of the current economic conditions was somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable. In other words, a majority of those surveyed were un-comfortable with the economy and the uncertainty it brings, yet they did not seek professional assistance. Maybe they spoke with their friends and family. Maybe they hoped the instability would go away on its own. Maybe they did not know to whom to turn. If you fall into this category, please re-member that as a member of the Knights of Columbus, you have a full-time, professional agent you can call your own. My primary responsibility is the care and service of your family’s life insurance, retirement and long-term care needs. I’ll answer your questions because I want your decisions to be informed ones. I want to help. Another LIMRA statistic said 43 per-cent of people did not buy life insurance because they worry about “making the wrong decision.” Talk with me, your agent, and, afterwards, you’ll understand that the only wrong decision was not purchasing sooner to protect your family’s future

Paul and Mary Guyet Pro-Life Couple Council 12761

It’s October and 40 DAYS FOR LIFE is in full swing with groups praying at

various abortion clinics throughout the Country.

This year the new Planned Parenthood at 610 Oak Commons, Kissimmee, which is across the

street from the hospital, is a focal point for prayer warriors involved with 40 DAYS FOR

LIFE. Fr. Frank Pavone preached there on Friday, September 26 with at least 60-70 other peo-

ple. It was an inspiring event. Kissimmee is a long drive from Longwood and you don’t need

to drive that far. There are six abortuaries in the Orlando area and there usually are people

praying the rosary at most of these abortuaries so don’t feel shy. Just get out there and pray.

The city of Kissimmee lifted the temporary injunction which prohibited abortions at this cen-

ter. There was no reason given. However, from conversations I have had with lawyers and peo-

ple involved with trying to make this injunction permanent it appears that there are very good

legal reasons to make the injunction permanent: another reason to pray vigilantly.

Remember that November 4 is Election Day. Please make sure that you vote for a candidate

who is pro-life. While our bishops can’t tell politicians what to do you, as a voter you can. Re-

member you get what you sow, so don’t forget to vote. Note that if people of life help pro-life

candidates win just six of the nine senate seats that are up for grabs the balance of power in the

Senate will shift from pro-abortion to pro-life. If that isn’t a good reason to vote there never

will be one.

Note that in 1991 there were over 2,176 surgical abortion centers in America. Today there are

619 and falling. Need I say more!!!

For the year ending December 31, 2013 the Knights donated

more than $170 million dollars in cash and over 70.5 million

man-hours of labor.

For 2013 the Knights of Columbus Annunciation Council 12671,

donated over $9,600.00 in cash and volunteered over 8,500

hours of labor.

For 2014 the Knights of Columbus Annunciation Council 12761,

has donated $8,591.15 in cash and volunteered over 5,373 hours

of labor.

Since 2006 we have donated over $108,147.15 in cash.

Since 2010 we have volunteered almost 35,322 in labor hours

The November Meeting Attendance Pot Contains $90.00

The council a few months ago in an effort to encourage member attendance at its monthly busi-ness meetings puts $10.00 into a pot at each business meeting to promote attendance at our meetings. At each business meeting, a drawing is made with the names of all members to deter-mine the winner of the pot. If the winner is not present, an additional $10.00 is added to the pot for the next meeting. The winner of the September drawing was not present at the meeting so the pot rolled over to the November meeting.

ST. PATRICK ASSEMBLY 2883 invites all 3rd Degree member s of the council to consider joining the 4th Degree and the St. Patrick

Assembly this Fall.

The St. Patrick Assembly holds it's business meetings on the second Monday of each month at7:30 PM on the Annunciation parish campus.

The next 4th Degree Exemplification here in central Florida will be held on Saturday, November 29th, at the Rosen Plaza Hotel located on

International Drive.

Application forms and fees must be submitted no later then October 9th to the assembly membership director, Bob Nettles. The exemplifi-

cation fee is $70.00. Dues for the 2015 calendar year will be $30.00 and will be due January 1st.

After your application has been received you will be scheduled for an admission committee interview for consideration of membership in

the Assembly.

Looking ahead to the Patriotic activities of the St. Patrick Assembly at Annunciation we again will be celebrating Veterans Day, November 11 with Mass at Noon in the Church followed by lunch with speaker in the St. Gabriel Center. This event to honor all the veterans and service men and women of our parish is FREE to all who wish to attend. Families are certainly welcome! November also brings us to the Fourth Degree Exemplification on November 29th here in Orlando. We welcome all Third Degree Knights to become Sir Knights in our Assembly. Reservations are necessary and the deadline is rapidly approaching so contact SK Bob Nettles, 407-297-1852, or nettlesbob@aol.com ASAP. December brings us to perhaps our biggest event of the year, the Annual Disabled Veterans Christmas Party. This year the event will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 2PM in the new VA Nurs-ing Facility in Lake Nona. This event, among us affectionately called the "Vets Christmas Party", has been well received by the residents and staff of the facility. We invite parish participation in this heartwarming event and we welcome your financial support.

Our council can achieve the star council award. In 1882, our founder, Father Michael J McGivney, saw that the needs of

his parishioners were too great for him to meet by himself. That is why he brought a handful of parish leaders together to address the urgent needs of his parishioners.

The challenges faced by people in 1882 are primarily the same as those that people still face today. People continue to need food, shelter and clothing. Our council is called to live the vision of our founder and to help provide for the needs of our par-ish and community.

That is why the Supreme Council celebrates the achievements of councils each year by awarding the Star Council Award, the Double Star Council Award for those councils that achieve 200 percent of their membership quota, and for the first time the Triple Star Council Award for those councils that achieve 300% of its membership quota.

It’s through earning the Star Council Award that our council would be recognized as fulfilling Father McGivney’s vision and this is why our council should strive to earn the Star Council Award each year!

The Star Council Award is comprised of the: Father McGivney Award for membership growth Founder’s Award for insurance growth Columbian Award for well-rounded council service programs and activities (Show the past Star Council Award Plaque which our council earned in the past.) The Father McGivney Award recognizes excellence in our council’s membership growth. Our council must meet or ex-

ceed its yearly membership quota of 17 members, to be eligible for this award. Quotas for councils with 101 or more members is a 5 percent increase of membership additions over deductions based on total active membership of the council as of July 1.

Growth is considered to be membership increases over membership losses. Additions are credited for new members, juvenile to adult members, reinstatements, reactivations, readmissions, and reapplications.

Losses that count against our council’s quota include member suspension or withdrawal. The loss of a member due to death and transfers into and out of our council does not count against the council quota.

As of our October 1st council membership statement from supreme we have had 7 additions and no deductions since July 1st which is 41% of

our quota.

The Council has approved request for a transfer in from Ronald Pitino, who was referred by John Scala.

We had 3 Brother Knights take their 2nd Degree last Thursday evening at St. Francis Council. They were Brain DeGailler, Earl Christian, and

Albert Schnur.

We have three 2nd Degree members signed up to attend the 3rd Degree Exemplification on Saturday, October 18th at Fr. Richard J Lyons Coun-

cil 5357 in Sanford.

Our council’s action plans

1. To man a recruitment table at the Fall Festival. We will have a Knight at the table to talk to prospects about joining. Council members will

assist prospects to complete a Membership Document (#100) or a Prospect Card (#921-A) if he’d rather learn more about the Knights before

filling out a membership document. There is a sign up sheet on the back table for you to volunteer to man the recruitment table for one hour

during the festival.

2. To conduct our semi annual membership recruitment blitz in November.

This is a coordinated membership Recruitment Drive - an all out effort to maximize our efforts, canvassing the entire parish on one weekend,

gathering the names of prospective new members to follow-up with.

The preparation phase

We have selected the weekend of November 8 & 9 to conduct the membership drive.

We will advertise the event weekly in the parish bulletin building up to the drive weekend. We already have

all the recruitment materials from Supreme’s supply department. We will inform our insurance agent about the

drive and ask for his assistance. We will arrange for the pastor or grand knight to make a brief announcement

prior to or after each Mass, explaining the K of C, encouraging men to complete prospect cards and hand them

to members of the council as they leave the church after Mass.

We will post 2 or 3 Knights at every door to the church prior to every Mass. The will hand out prospect cards to each man as he enters the

Church.

We will set up tables at both the north and south side of the church manned by Knights to

answer any questions the prospects might have.

After each Mass we will have members at each door to collect completed prospect cards as men leave church with their families.

The Follow-Up Phase

Personal contact will be made with every prospect within 48 hours.

Each prospect and his family will be invited to attend the informational seminar to be held on Wednesday, November 19 th in the Nazareth

Center.

Admission Committee interviews would take place November 24-26th.

The First degree

A First Degree is scheduled for Monday, December 1st.

Sir Knight Dennis Franko is chairman of the council’s Fraternalism Committee. This committee among other things writes and sends out Knights of Columbus "Get Well" cards, or "Sympathy" cards, to Brothers and Families, who are going through the heal-ing process of a physical or emotional ailment, or the loss of a loved one, and is in need of our thoughts and prayerful support. Dennis always adds a short personal, handwritten note and signs the card from ‘The Knights of Annunciation Council’. He uses his return address so that he is alerted if it can't be delivered, but he never signs the card personally or shows any indication of whom sent it. That way the card will always be recognized as from all of us. If you would like Dennis to send out a card, please notify him via
