WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

Today is World Mission Sunday, a day that leads us to the heart of our Christian faith! Your generosity on World Mission Sunday sup-ports the work of priests, religious, and lay leaders in the mission dioceses who accompany those most in need.

Let this celebration of World Mission also be a day to honor the many ways we commit to missionary discipleship. As Psalm 104 says: "Send forth your spirit and renew the face of the earth!"

HUMAN CONCERNS COMMISSION

Dear Lord, Hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need.

Remember Those Far From Home LCpl. Elijah Burgins Po3. John Castro

Pvt. Peter Eck Pvt. Zachary Flick Lt. Eric Infante

Sgt. Scott Majewski Kevin Moon Mullins

Afc. Jeremy McNeel Pfc. Joseph Pusateri Theodore Soupart

Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. If you have loved ones who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, please call the rectory at 847-437-6208 and we will add their names to our bulletin list. When your loved one has returned home, please let us know so we can remove their name from the list. Thank you.

End Domestic Violence NOW!

Domestic Violence Hotline

1-800-799-SAFE

Domestic Violence incidents rise during difficult financial times. If you see a family in trouble, please call the hotline.

MY BROTHER’S KEEPER MINISTRY

Seniors, do you need a ride to the doctor or grocery store? Please give us at least 3 days notice. This is a free service to all

our senior parishioners. We are not able to drive for surgery or if anesthesia is involved. Call Linda at 847-439-5372.

St.Vincent de Paul is an emergency source for food and short-term financial help for parishioners and those living within the parish boundaries. Please call 847-437-6208. Requests will be handled with care and confidentiality.

Thank you to all who have returned their Baby Bottles this month. The project not only helps The Women’s Center raise funds for their life saving work, but also fosters and builds Pro Life Awareness.

A further bulletin will give the amount your bottles contributed.

In the Gospel today Jesus says: “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” When God is the center of our lives there is no problem with giving others their due.

Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are helping your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless and frightened to know that they belong to God.

Respect Life Thank You!

“ANOINTING OF THE SICK”

Prayer

Jesus, your coming on earth was like a new dawn over the world of darkness…the blind saw, the lame walked again, the sick were healed, and even the dead were raised to life. Come again into the lives of everyone, and heal the wounds of their broken hearts. Come again to all who are sick or depressed, and fill their lives with hope and peace. Come again to us as we call on your holy name, so that we, too, may receive your help and healing peace. Amen.

VISION:

Foster mission vitality; inspire discipleship

♦ As part of Renew My Church, difficult deci-sions will have to be made. But those con-siderations will be balanced by the more important questions: How will this enable us to carry out Christ’s mission in the com-munities we serve? How will this lead to Renewal? We will accompany those who grieve on the path to the hope that comes when we walk together in the joy of Jesus Christ.

33 Days to Morning Glory

Our Parish Life and Faith Formation Commissions are pleased to offer 33 Days to Morning Glory, where author Fr. Michael Gaitley masterfully summarizes the teach-ings of four giants of Marian spirituality. Through this self-guided retreat (using the book 33 Days to Morning Glory and by attending a weekly meeting or viewing an online video), a person commits to spiritual reading and prayerful pondering with a Marian focus. We give our-selves to Mary to be formed into the image of her Son, Jesus. "Mary brings us most intimately into that en-counter with Jesus," says Fr. Gaitley. We will begin independent study on Sunday, November 5. In order for you to begin, please purchase the book 33 Days to Morning Glory this month and have it ready to read on November 5. Sign up for the weekly meetings (held at St. Cecilia's) or let us know you will be watching the videos from home. Our 33 days together will end on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Details about our final day will be given to participants and published in the bulletin. Our first weekly meeting will be on Saturday, No-vember 11 at 9 a.m. in the Meeting House. Please contact Lisa Mersereau to sign up for the first weekly meeting or if you have questions. Lisa's e-mail is [email protected].

Further information about 33 Days to Morning Glory can be found at Amazon.com or at http://www.marian.org/news/A-New-Day-Dawns-for-Marian-Consecration-4742.

MAKING A KILLING-

Guns, Greed, and the NRA

This is a documentary film produced by The Brave New Films Production from California that strongly supports gun control in the USA. The film features personal stories from people who have been affected by gun violence, including survivors and victims’ families. It looks into gun tragedies that include un-intentional shootings, domestic violence, suicides, and mass shootings. It also addresses what we can do to put an end to this crisis.

The film will be shown on Wednesday, October 25, at 7pm. St. Thomas Catholic Church Parish Hall, 1321 Burning Bush Lane—Mt. Prospect. All are welcome!

Improvements to Our Church BuildingImprovements to Our Church Building

On October 16, we will begin work on re-carpeting the Church building. Work will be completed by our Anniversary Mass. An exciting new addition to our worship space will be the installation of a hear-ing aid induction loop.

Have a few hours to spare during these weeks to assist our maintenance staff with dusting and cleaning all areas of the Church building, especially concentrating on the wor-ship space?

Re-carpeting this building is going to create a lot of dust. If you have a few hours to help us out, please contact Ted Kawa at (847)-437-6208, ext. 115.

Altar of Remembrance During November we remember all our departed souls. We will again have the Altar of Remem-brance. You are invited to bring a picture of your deceased one to place in their memory. Participa-tion is not limited to those who have passed away this year, nor need they have been parishioners.

You will take your picture home again at the end of the month. Please attach your name on the back of the picture. The altar will be up all month, ex-cept for the November 4th weekend—when we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary. The altar will once again resume it’s placement for the rest of the month.

October 15, 2017—$9,753

October 16, 2016—$9,144

IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT ABORTION

October is Respect Life month and while we always think first about abortion, there is so much more. Respect Life covers all issues from birth to natural death. It reminds us of the homeless, the hungry, elder abuse, domestic abuse, rape, those in prison, the support of just wars and the right to die.

Please remember all affected by these issues in your prayers this month.

All parishioners and friends are invited and en-couraged to participate as a family community to support our grieving families and to pray for all of our deceased family and friends.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On behalf of our brothers and sisters who have been severely affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, it is my wish to sincerely thank you for the tremendous outpouring of support you have shown them during this challenging time. Banding together to answer the cry of those in need, the Archdiocese of Chicago community has seamlessly partnered with Catholic Charities USA, local parishes, and schools to bring financial, physical, and spiri-tual aid to those who have lost so much in the Gulf Coast. The September 9-10 collection raised more than $600,000 for these efforts, a true testament to the compassion of the people of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Now it is time once again to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters affected by natural disasters that have occurred over the last few weeks, including Hurricane Maria and the earthquakes in Mexico. As requested by the USCCB, all parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago are invited to take up a second collection at all Masses on the weekend October 28-29. Proceeds from this special collection will support humanitarian and recovery efforts in Mex-ico and Puerto Rico. There is also an option for your parish to donate directly to these efforts. To donate, please visit http://pvm.archchicago.org/hurricane or mail contributions to the following address. Please make all checks payable to the Natural Disaster Emergency Appeal.

It is my prayer that we continue to support those affected by these natural disasters through both prayer and action. With every good wish, I remain,

Sincerely yours in Christ,
