This advanced course teaches current concepts and techniques of complex foot and ankle surgery covering trauma and reconstruction and aiming at full functional restoration of the injured foot.

Goal of the course Target participants

Speciality consulting surgeons and senior trainees interested in advancing their expertise in the management of foot and ankle injuries and pathological conditions affecting the foot. Participants must have already completed the AOTrauma Principles course and they should be actively involved in foot and ankle surgery. However, preference for selection will be given to those who have completed the AOTrauma Advance Course in case the number of applications received are much higher than expected.

Course description Course objectivesSurgeons participating in the course will concentrate on the application of surgical planning and advanced techniques in the management of complex foot and ankle injuries. The course will be taught in a modular format. A limited number of evidence-based lectures will cover the key information required. In workshops, participants will be trained in the application of different techniques and approaches. Discussing cases in small groups will help participants to understand decision making and management skills. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to share their experience and cases with peers and the experienced international faculty. The course will focus on a biomechanical and biological approach to apply fracture treatment in rare conditions as well as common conditions, pitfalls, clinical tricks, and means to avoid complications. In the reconstructive part focus will mainly be on surgical techniques for managing possible pathologies: posttraumatic, systemic, and neurological

After the course, participants should be able to:

?Describe the assessment tools for complex foot and ankle injuries and disorders.

?Explain anatomy, biomechanics, and function of the foot and the ankle.

?Formulate the principles for surgical techniques to manage trauma of the ankle, hindfoot, midfoot, and forefoot.

?Analyse the most common sports injuries in the foot and ankle and outline treatment options.

?Understand the principles of foot and ankle reconstruction and have knowledge of recommended techniques to achieve a functional foot.

?Identify the varieties of neurological foot problems and their management options.

Course information

The Course fee is ` 27,500/- (Twenty Seven Thousand Five Hundred only) inclusive of service tax.

AO Principles Course. However, those who have completed the AOTrauma Advance Course will be given a preference in case the number of applications received are much higher than expected. A copy of the certificates must accompany the application form. There should be a gap of minimum 1 year from the date of application of AO Principles Course.This course is primarily meant for surgeons practicing in India.
