help in this matter by talking directly with your drivers. Your
support is very much appreciated. I hope that you enjoy reading the
many articles in todays newsletter. Have a great weekend! This week
has seen the return of all of our Y4 and Y5 students from their
residential trips to Long Hai and Hoi respectively. I have heard
some great stories about the trips which were certainly enjoyed by
everyone concerned with a great deal of learning that took place.
More details about both of these trips can be found on pages 5, 6
and 7 of todays newslet- ter. Also, welcome back to Jenny Han, Ly
Hwang, Phan Ha Tran Luong and Dongwoo Kim who represented BIS
superbly well in this years Fobisia Primary Maths Challenge. Alt-
hough no trophies were brought home this time around, our team did
us all proud with their perseverance and positive team spirit -
well done! As part of our continual commitment to the Health and
Safety of our children, our termly fire evacuation took place on
Tuesday. Assisted by our local fire department who arrived at
school within 2 minutes of the fire bell sounding, the fire
fighters prac- tised their drill with hoses and fire engines. I am
pleased to report that the practise went very well with all
children and adults on site accounted for. For many of our younger
children, this was no doubt the highlight of the week! On
Wednesday, our very own coffee shop - The Terrace - opened its
doors for the first time. Situated opposite the main football field
with seating for 12 adults, I hope that this will give parents a
space to talk and meet with the added bonus of some delicious
refreshments. Please note that The Terrace is designed for parents
to purchase food and beverages. No chil- dren, without the
supervision of their parents, are allowed to purchase items either
before or after school time. Thank you to the 40 parents that
attended the Digital Citizenship Work- shop on Wednesday morning.
Led by Mr Adam Astley, our Learning Tech- nologies Manager, the
workshop had the aim of helping parents under- stand how we keep
our children safe in an online environment whilst in school and
also educating parents on how they can continue this at home. All
details of the workshop can be found on the AP1 Parent Blog by
click- ing here. REMINDER

in HCMC. FOBISIA is a membership organisation of the very best
British type schools in the region. Par- ents will know FOBISIA for
the many events that it organises for children as well as providing

7. Issue 25/Page 7 Year 5 Residential Trip To Hoi An The Year 5
residential trip to Hoi An was a great success. The children
thoroughly enjoyed all the different activities they participated
in. They were also great representatives for the school, showing
respect and integrity, taking risks and developing responsibility
for themselves and their own actions. The children also learnt
about life in Hoi An through farming activities and trying
different local food, and about the history of Hoi An during the
scavenger hunt. The children should all be very proud of their
achievements during the trip. Ms Deborah Spencer Year 5 Teacher and
Assistant Milepost 3 Leader
8. Issue 25/Page 8 Community Services Department Our EYFS
children had visitors on Monday from Binh Tho. The Friends for
Street children school visited Ms Gemma's class. Everyone had lots
of fun playing together both inside the classroom and outside in
the play area. Our community partner will be visiting each of the
EYFS classes this term giving all the children a chance to play and
make new friends.
9. Issue 25/Page 9 Community Services Department On Wednesday
it was the turn of Ms Sarah's year 2 class visit to the 'Anh Minh
School' for children who are hearing impaired. It's a fabulous
opportunity for our pupils to look into different ways of
communicating with each other and we've had lots of fantastic
educational exchanges over the years with our community partner at
Anh Minh. It was wonderful to see all the children mixing together
and having fun trying out different circus techniques as well as
the ever popular parachute game. Ms Aoife OConnor and Ms Samantha

10. Issue 25/Page 10 Student Council - The Childrens Voice Our
special event for this year is Wake Up to the Environment Day. This
will take place on Thursday 16th April, and is a mix between Green
Day and Slumber Day. The reason for this day is to raise awareness
to help save our environment and to reawaken our understanding of
the importance of being green. Students will dress up in pyjamas or
nightwear to school and participate in some fun activities,
encouraging them to be green and more environmentally friendly.
Some of the activities will be: A green headwear fashion show using
recycled items. This could be worn at break times or lunch. We will
also have the hour in which all electricity in our school is turned
off, like from previous years, so chil- dren can understand how
important saving electricity is, and to use it wisely. There will
be more activities running on the day, however more information
will come soon when the day is approaching, but for now look for
our Wake Up to The Environment Day posters all around our school.

13. Issue 25/Page 13 PE Department - U11 Netball v AIS On
Wednesday the BIS netball squad played AIS in a netball match, and
we won 4-0 even though the first goal scored was in the second
quarter by BIS. Our goals were scored by Emily Marshall, Lulu Evans
and Ela Walsh. Our best players over all were Emily Marshall, Gemma
Handscombe and Khai Segal, but we all played really well. The way
BIS played was really good - bang, bang, bang, shoot. It was the
best we have ever played. AIS were also really good as they al-
ways had us confused because they would keep moving, and they were
really good at coming up from behind. At the end of the match we
shook hands and we all had great fun. Well done to both teams. Ela
Walsh Year 6 Student On Wednesday March 18th, I played in a match
against SSA for the BIS U9 FOBISIA team. I am the captain of our
team and I wanted to lead our team to win against SSA. The players
in our team were Jin Woo, Ron, Wil- liam, Shubhankar, Steven,
Freddie and me (Jisung). We are all year 4s. In the first game,
Ron, our team striker scored by dribbling the ball towards the
goal. It was a great goal. Our team mates were very excited. In the
second game, Ron scored another goal with Freddies assist. The
other team tackled Ron so we got a chance at a free kick. As soon
as the referee blew the whistle for the free kick, I took a shot.
Then one of the defenders in the opposing team blocked it by
heading, but it didnt work and lead us to another goal. It was 3
nil for us. In the third game, Ron scored in the last minute but
the opposing goalie slid and Ron get injured. It was 4 nil for us
and in the end we all shook hands. Overall, I think we are the best
team because we have a great coach like Mr. Chris, a great striker
like Ron, an excellent goal keeper like William, the fastest
midfielder, Freddie, strong defenders like Jin Woo and Shubhan-
kar, Steven who has good passing skills, and me as the captain. Our
team will try hard to be the best that we can be in FOBISIA.
