Applying Luther’s Catechism helps parents/mentors share their faith

and strengthen relationships during those crucial teen years. Each lesson approaches Luther’s Small Catechism as a mentoring tool for Christian life.

The goal of the Confirmation process is to engage children and

youth in a life-long journey of faith including participation in

the body of Christ (the Church).

The purpose of confirmation ministry is to provide an intentional opportunity for baptized

Christians who desire to deepen and explore their faith, read and study scripture in community, and

learn about Christ’s church through the lens of the Lutheran tradition. Additionally, those who choose to affirm their baptismal covenant are

asked to struggle with the question: "If I profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, what difference

will it make in my life?" This then leads to a public faith statement before God and the

congregation.

Confirmation ministry is a pastoral and education ministry of the

church which helps the baptized person through Word and

Sacrament to identify more deeply with the Christian community and

participate more fully in its mission.

There are many ways Lutherans conduct confirmation. Regardless of the method of instruction, the goal is always to provide a

significant base for a growing faith. As important as confirmation is, the ritual of

confirmation is not as important as the development of faith which confirmation

strives. Confirmation's goal is to encourage, by God's Word and Holy Spirit, a growing, dynamic, life-long expression of faith which endures until

we receive the "crown of life" (Rev. 2:10).

The Purpose of confirmation is to help confirmands:

†Personally confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and take personal ownership in declaring, by the power of the Holy Spirit, their own allegiance to Christ;

†Eagerly explore the awesomeness of God and the mysteries of faith;

†Identify themselves as members, as a unique and special part of the body of Christ, as Lutheran and members of a local congregation.

†Regularly participate in public worship and the reception of holy communion, engage in personal and group Bible study and its application to life, strive to lead God-pleasing lives and offer services to God by serving others;

†Celebrate the relationships that they have with God as their personal God who loves them graciously, their pastor and other confirmation staff people, their peers participating in the confirmation process, their family and other members of their congregation.

Confirmation instruction is intended to prepare them to confirm the faith that began in them on the day of their

Baptism.

The goal of the program is to allow young Christian people the

privilege of getting better acquainted with Jesus Christ and

his teachings.

THE FATHER Students will…

…be able to answer the fundament questions of the Christian worldview, “How did I get here? Why am I alive? Where am I going?”

…be able to defend the Christian teachings of creation in the face of humanistic evolution.

THE SON Students will…

…understand the consequences of sin

…understand Jesus is the only salvation from sin, death and hell

…defend historical reality of Jesus, as well as the literal resurrection

THE HOLY SPIRIT Students will…

…apply the Christian faith to daily living

…understand the power of the Word and Sacraments and their use in the life of the Christian

…understand that the Church is God’s family and the need to be connected to it

…recognize that we are pilgrims in this world, looking forward to life eternal in heaven
