EARLY EASTER DEADLINE All Classifi ed Ads, Advertising & Articles for our next issue is 10 a.m., Wednesday April 20th. Our next issue is Tuesday, April 26th.
Submitted by: Captain Natalie Wispinski, 14 Air Maintenance SquadronAs most folks have likely noticed, our beloved Argus had to spend the winter next to the CANEX
parking lot. Unfortunately, temperatures were too cool last fall to complete the painting prior to the snow fall. Beginning mid-April, the refurbishment crew from 14 Air Maintenance Squadron (AMS) and 404 Squadron will be getting together once again to pick up where we left off last fall. First the existing paint surface will have to be lightly scuffed, followed by application of an additional two coats of paint. The “lightening bolt”, tail art, roundels and remaining markings will then be added. The radome and Magnetic Anomaly Detection (MAD) boom, which are currently being refi nished in the 14 AMS Aircraft Structures shop, will also be reinstalled. Mother Nature willing, our goal is to have the Argus back in her former position of splendour by the end of May.

On Saturday 26 February 2011, 14 Construction Engi-neering Squadron (CES), the Lunenburg County Detach-ment of the RCMP, the Town of Bridgewater Police and the
The Regimental Ball 2011
Lunenburg County and Area Fire Services joined forces to hold the 6th Regimental Ball. The event took place at the Days Inn, Bridgewater. The Ball was organized by a com-mittee led by Captain Frank Edison, who was also the Mas-
ter of Ceremonies (MC), and his wife Sharon Edison. The re-mainder of this year’s commit-tee were members of 14 CES, the RCMP and Bridgewater Po-lice. The Ball was attended by numerous members and their spouses of the aforementioned organizations as well as local politicians, retired members and special guests.
This year’s guest speaker, Dan Hennessey of Branch #24 Legion took this opportunity to
speak about the defi nition of a veteran. The subject is near and dear to his own heart and very important to all those in atten-dance. While the MC kept the crowd entertained by educating attendees on historical tradi-tions of various organizations; a brief history of Military Mess dinners and some anecdotal points of proper etiquette, like not using your knife to stab your food as it is already dead.
The Regimental Ball was conceived approximately 10 years ago, as a celebration of uniforms in Lunenburg County. The initial idea was not in-tended as a fundraising event, however, in the early planning stages it was realized the dinner would generate profi t.
Keeping with the original theme of ‘a celebration of uniforms’ the fi rst committee sought out a charity worthy of the profi ts. The charity which was chosen over 10 years ago and is still the recipient of the profi ts is the Derek C Burke-holder Memorial Trust Fund.
Sergeant Burkeholder, of the RCMP, died on 4 Jun 1996 in the line of duty in Lunen-burg County. The trust fund grants scholarships annually to graduating students of the 5 county high schools. The stu-dents must have demonstrated a fi nancial need and demon-strated humanitarianism with preference going to those who have declared a stated purpose to serve their fellow human beings. Winners of the grants are expected to maintain a B average and be of upstanding character and reputation within the community.
During the event, Captain Brian Boss was awarded the 14 Wing Commander’s Com-mendation recognizing his excellent and selfl ess leader-ship as A/CO 14 CES while the a portion of the Squadron was deployed on CMO Roto 7.
This very successful event would not have been possible without the generous contribu-tions and donations from the local business community.
Captain Brian Boss received the Wing Com-mander’s Commendation from 14 Wing Commander Colonel Bill Seymour during the Regimental Ball held in Bridgewater, NS on 26 February, 2011. The award recognized his excellent and selfl ess leadership as Acting Commanding Offi cer 14 Construction Engi-neering Squadron while a portion of the Squadron was deployed on CMO Roto 7.

Baseball is one of those sports that creates irresistible urges. In what way you ask? Well, how many times have we passed a ball game on TV only to pause and watch, if only for a few minutes, just to catch the score? What about when you are standing in line at the grocery store and someone is chatting about the fi nal score of game 3 and how that will affect the rest of the series and the potential playoff situations, and you just can’t help but join in. Of course there are the times when you stop at a fast food place and there is a whole uniformed team of excited kids there that just played “a big game” (after all they are ALL big when you’re a kid!) and you can’t help but think of when you were younger.
Do you wish your child could have the opportunity to be active and have fun while doing it? There are so many opportunities in this area for kids to play ball, from the rally cap program for the youngest players (4-6 year olds) right up to 17 yrs old having fun in a house league. There are even tryouts for kids who want to try a more competitive approach that are coming up.
If you have a chi ld, or children, who are interested in playing baseball, Middleton Minor Baseball is accepting
Minor Baseball – Annapolis Valley

28 – 31 March 2011-04-07The 14 Wing Greenwood
bowling team left for the regional’s on Monday 28th March held at the Bowladrome in CFB Halifax. Upon arrival we were informed there would be only three teams competing in this year’s competition not five as we expected. The teams were 14 Wing Greenwood, CFB Halifax and CFB Gagetown.
A f t e r t h e o p e n i n g ceremonies on Tuesday morning the competition began, which consisted of a quadruple round robin over the next two days. After the
Atlantic Region Bowling Championship
1st day of competition Halifax 37 pts, Greenwood 32 pts and Gagetown 27 pts. After a good nights rest competition resumed Wednesday morning. By the end of the day and the completion of round robin play the final results were Greenwood 77 pts, Halifax 68 pts and Gagetown 47 pts.
With Greenwood fi nishing fi rst they would have to wait and see who their competition would be in the fi nal. Halifax and Gagetown had to play each other which turned out to be a close match with Halifax claiming victory by total pin fall by a mere 8 pin difference. If anyone knows anything about 5 pin bowling that is a
small margin.With Halifax’s victory this
set up a show down with Greenwood who would have to be beaten twice because of their fi rst place fi nish. It was a very close fi rst match with Halifax coming out on top by a 4 pin difference in total pin fall. Going into the second match Greenwood seemed a little down after loosing such a close fi rst match. Halifax took advantage of the situation and defeated Greenwood by 60 pins to claim their 2nd straight Atlantic Region Bowling Championship.
Although Greenwood fi nished 2nd place the team can hold their heads high. All members of the team bowled extremely well throughout the competition. We congratulate CFB Halifax on their win and thank them being great hosts.
Congratulations to the 1st Place, CFB Halifax.(Image: Corporal Michael Gillam, ACS Machining)

Let’s respond and take advantage of this opportunity by fi lling up two full days with appointments. If we can double our one day attendance, over both days, Canadian Blood Services may be able to collect enough donations to save over a thousand lives!
The next two day donor clinics will be held at the 14 Wing Greenwood Community Centre on Tuesday April 19th and Wednesday April 20th. Galway, Gerald Daniel (Jerry) April 29, 2010
In loving memory of a Husband, Father and
Grandfather
First a day, then a week, then a month and a few more. Now a year, every day that passes we miss you more.
It’s been a year since we have said good bye,Times have been hard and made us cry,
Not a day has gone by that we have not thought of you,Never quite sure how we would make it throughYou would be proud how we have stuck together
Obtaining strength from each otherStories told and memories shared,
Remembering how much you cared,A laugh shared remembering the past
This year has gone by so fastAll the things you did not get to see
And you are probably thinking all this crying just for meIf you were here now you tell us to dry our eyes, and make us laugh.
If you were here now you would know what to sayIf you were here now you would tell us…
I want you to live, I want you to loveI want you to live, I want you to tryI want you to know that I’m alright
You will never know how much you are loved and missed,God saw you getting tiredWhen a cure was not to be
So he wrapped his arms around you,And whispered, “Come with me”
You didn’t deserve what you went through,So he gave you rest
God’s garden must be beautiful,He only takes the best.
And when I saw you sleepingSo peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you backTo suffer that again
So spread your wings and enjoy the fl ightA day doesn’t go by that we don’t think about you,
You are constantly in our thought; we miss you so much everydayYou’ll never know how much we loved you and need you.
We Love YouLove Kay, & Molly (dog), Jerry, Mel, Chris,

On 30 Mar 11, the 14 Wing Logistics and Engineering Offi cer (WLEO), Lieutenant-Colonel Ghislain Létourneau, presented the Logistics and Engineering (WLE) Branch Civilian of the Year Award to Mr Anthony Watton from the 14 Wing Construction E n g i n e e r i n g S q u a d r o n
(WCE). This award is presented
annually to a Department of National Defense (DND) Civilian Employee within the WLE Branch nominated by his or her Chain of Command and endorsed by his/her respective Squadron Offi cer Commanding (OC).
14 Wing Logistics and Engineering Branch Civilian of the Year 2010
The WLE Branch Civilian of the Year is selected among the persons chosen for the WLE Branch Civilian of the Quarter Awards. Mr Watton was chosen for the Civilian of the Year Award for his strong work ethic and dedication shown during a voluntary deployment to Kandahar
Airfi eld in Afghanistan as part of the Technical Assistance Visit (TAV) team from 28 Jan 10 to 30 Mar 10.
After complet ing the erection of the Expeditionary Forces Aircraft Shelter System hangar ahead of schedule, Mr Watton assisted the main camp Engineer Support Unit with work on their extensive backlog of electrical work orders. He spent numerous hours completing badly needed maintenance and set up Preventive Maintenance log books for all buildings within the Canadian area o f r e s p o n s i b i l i t y. M r Watton’s contribution to the deployment played a signifi cant part in its success. His strong work ethic and gregarious personality were key contributors to overall group cohesion. As both a military and professional organization, the Canadian Forces relies on their Civilian counterparts as Subject Matter Experts for their specifi c job knowledge and skills and this deployment of a Public Service employee as part of a formed Engineer support group was a great success and a first for 14 Wi n g G r e e n w o o d . M r
Watton is commended for his exemplary performance and

The dream is closer to a reality today due to the overwhelming support of “An Evening in Paris” gala held April 9th. The event raised over $61,000 in support of Our Community Our Health. Our partner the Valley Regional Hospital Auxiliary presented a cheque for $10,000.
Hosted by Camp Aldershot and Major Troy Kennedy the Valley Regional Hospital and Valley Hospice Foundations invited Len Hawley to emcee and welcome 352 supporters to enjoy “An Evening in Paris”. Holly Carr enchanted the crowd by creating a work of art before our very eyes to the music of the Stadacona band. The artwork was auctioned later that evening for $1750 by guest auctioneer Costas Halavrezos.
Committee organizers invited local businesses Pulsifer Flowers, Guy and Marie French Bakery and Just Us Coffee to set up on the avenue des Champs Elysees and offer samples to guests throughout the evening. Center Stage actors in French dress, attitude and accents interacted with the guests and added to the ambience.
Our Community Our Health is an $8 million campaign to redevelop Valley Regional Hospital and build a Hospice and Palliative Care Centre.

Submitted by: Savannah BrownOn March 27th the North Mountain Gun Club held a pistol shoot! Everyone brought a
different gun and I must say there were some pretty sweet guns there. We started with some lunch made by our own Chris Tanner. Our targets ranged from 15 yards to 35 yards. We shot at some colourful paper targets and gongs prepared by Ward Thompson. The competition began around 1:00 p.m. Like always, the competition was fi erce until we came up with our winners. In fi rst place was Thomas Brown, whom I’m glad to call my dad. In second place was Erica Jilge and Cliff Neiley took third. We wouldn’t have these awesome shoots if we didn’t have Ward Thompson, Chris Tanner and Horst Loegler. I thank those people for taking the time to make the shoots as fun and as good as they are! THANK YOU! I hope everyone had fun, I know I did!

By: Eric MacKenzie - Community Recreation Coordinator; Leona Conrick – Volunteers Services Manager
The 14 Wing Community Recrea t ion Cent re and Greenwood Military Family Resource Centre honoured their core of community adult and youth volunteers, as well as their sponsors and internal partners, on Tuesday 12 April 11. This event, held at the Annapolis Mess, was made possible by the generous funding from SISIP Financial Services.
Roughly two hundred guests attended and over one hundred and sixty volunteers, thir teen businesses and nine internal partners were recognized for the outstanding contributions they have made to our programs during 2010. Without their support and assistance we would not have been able to provide
the quality services, this past year, at 14 Wing.
During the week of 10 April – 16 April 11 communities all across Canada celebrated National Volunteer Week, like we did on 12 April 11. This was the fi rst year that the Community Recreation Centre partnered with the GMFRC, and the purpose of the evening was to thank and honour all of those who donated their time to help others by supporting the causes in which they believe. A second purpose was to also increase awareness of the vital importance of Volunteerism in our 14 Wing community. To show our appreciation and thanks, all of our volunteers and sponsors received a certifi cate of appreciation.
As part of the evening’s entertainment, we were extremely excited to have hypnotist Robert Lamar perform his widely acclaimed “Theatre of the Mind” show. His performance on 12 April 2011 was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and it was evident that Robert has entertained thousands in Nova Scotia and
beyond. An amazing na t iona l
volunteer statistic is that volunteer rates are highest among youth, and Nova Scotia teenagers contribute 18% more than their national peers . Once aga in , we greatly appreciate all of the sacrifi ces, dedication, energy, enthusiasm and support shown this past year by our volunteers, sponsors and internal partners. As a result of your tremendous help, you all truly make 14 Wing a great Community to work and live in!

ARIES - Mar 21/Apr 20Aries, a change in scenery would be well timed. While it’s not good to run away from your problems, some time away could provide a new perspective.TAURUS - Apr 21/May 21Taurus, foster closer relationships with family this week because you might need them in the days to come. It always helps to have someone you can trust nearby.GEMINI - May 22/Jun 21Think again before you make a large purchase, Gemini. Overspending may not be prudent at this juncture in time. Big expenses loom on the horizon, and you need to be prepared. CANCER - Jun 22/Jul 22Someone is thinking about you, Cancer, and it could lead to romantic endeavors. The excitement will be in discovering just who has his or her eyes pointed in your direction.LEO - Jul 23/Aug 23Leo, a complete change of direction is possible this week. Indecision could cause you to act rashly and that could lead to irreversible damage.VIRGO - Aug 24/Sept 22Virgo, stop trying to prove yourself to others. Be your own person and live your own life and you will be much happier for it. Realize that you can’t compete on the same level all the time.
LIBRA - Sept 23/Oct 23Preparation is essential to avoid feeling out of control, Libra. Don’t worry, when you put your mind to it, you can accomplish just about anything. SCORPIO - Oct 24/Nov 22Scorpio, it may be time for you to start over, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. You may fi nd a new path that is much more to your liking and new relationships to boot.SAGITTARIUS - Nov 23/Dec 21Don’t try to push your point of view on someone else, Sagittarius. It won’t be well received at this juncture in time. Let others have their opinions for the moment.CAPRICORN - Dec 22/Jan 20There ’s no t ime to re lax, Capricorn. Just when you tackle one project, another takes its place. Fortunately, you have an abundance of energy to keep you going.AQUARIUS - Jan 21/Feb 18Aquarius, you may get some news you didn’t expect and it will take a while to absorb all of this information. When you think about it, the change could be good.PISCES - Feb 19/Mar 20Pisces, soliciting help doesn’t mean you are abandoning your independence. It just means you’re smart.

Sudoku Solution page 18
Fun By The NumbersHere’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fi ll each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can fi gure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
