MISSION PROJECT SPRING 2017… Grace Chapel Lutheran, Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri In honor of our 150th year of school, our spring mission project will be helping Grace Chapel Lutheran School share Jesus with its students, families, and community. (Eric Brofford, former Immanuel teacher) Our school has lots of needs, but a little bit about us: We are located in Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri, which is a first-ring suburb of St. Louis. We are the nearest LCMS school and congregation to Ferguson, Missouri (about 2 miles from where most of the protesting/rioting took place). Our student body is about 70% African-American, 20% white and 5% other or 2 or more races. About 30 of our students are members of our church. For a variety of reasons, including Ferguson, our enrollment has declined from over 200 in K-8 to around 130 this year and 40 in Early School (2, 3, 4-year olds). Our first child tuition is $4600 but the average household income from which we draw the majority of our students is less than $34,000. This year we will award $95,000 in aid, but TADS (the company we use to determine financial need) says our students need over $346,000 in assistance. Along with the more sudden decline in school enrollment, we have seen a slow decline in church attendance and therefore, the ability to support the school.

UPCOMING SCHOOL BREAKS April 20 : ½ Day Parent/Teacher Conferences April 21 : Parent/Teacher Conferences May 1 : ½ Day

½ DAY EXTENDED SCHOOL CARE –April 20th We will be offering ESC on April 20th for the ½ day. Please make sure to pack your child a cold lunch and a snack since there will be no hot lunch offered. Please contact Mrs. Thorpe to sign up your student(s).

DONATIONS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS Mrs. Thorpe is on a committee for the upcoming Michigan District Office Personnel Conference. As a service project, conference attendees will be filling gently used purses with beauty products for women in domestic violence shelters. These women often are unable to bring luxuries, such as purses and

beauty products, along with them when fleeing an abusive situation. If you would like to donate any gently used purses or new beauty products (either full size or sample size) please bring them into the school office between now and April 21, 2017. Thank you so much!

WELCOME TO OUR NEW KINDERGARTEN TEACHER – Stephanie Gore We are excited to welcome Miss Stephanie Gore to our Immanuel family for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. Please see her bio below. Hello! My name is Stephanie Gore. I am the second oldest of four daughters in my family. My sisters and I all attended St. Luke Lutheran Church and School in Clinton Township. While at St. Luke, I was very active in music and athletics for the Mustangs. I furthered my Christian growth and education at Lutheran High School North in Macomb. While in high school, I served various leadership roles and participated in athletics all four years. Finishing up my undergraduate at Valparaiso University in May, I am blessed and honored to serve on staff at Immanuel this upcoming school year. I am beyond excited to join the Immanuel community and hope to use my talents to glorify God and foster the growth of young students, learning alongside them in our walk with Christ.

PTL BOARD POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR We are looking for 2 parents to help out in leading our PTL for the upcoming school year. SCHOOL SURVEY - from Immanuel Board of Education & School Administration Our Board of Education and school administration are asking for your input and feedback about our school and your child’s experience this year. Your input is extremely valuable and needed. It is very important that all parents respond to this survey. The more responses we get, the better it is for the Board of Education, principal, teachers, and staff to respond to the information. The information you give us is shared with the teachers and staff. The survey will be open through the month of April. We had to create a separate survey for our 7th and 8th grade families in order to get data about the many teachers and classes the students have in those grades. The K-6th grade and 7th & 8th grade surveys are identical until the last page when 7th and 8th grade parents can give feedback on each subject/class. Please choose the link below based on your child’s grade level. If you have more than one child, please fill out a survey for each child.
