After much anticipation, the Annual Dinner Auction has come and gone. I would like to take a moment to give a huge ―Thank You‖ to the Chamber Staff, all of the dedicated volunteers, sponsors, donors and anyone who attended the event, making it a great success. The auction is a large part of the Chamber‘s operating budget which allows us to provide the cutting-edge services and tools to help your business succeed.

This month‘s luncheon was a new experience for many people. The American Legion‘s fish fry was very tasty and the building itself is a staple in Olde Town Fenton that several people had not visited before. The different memorials on display touched everyone; you could see how honored the members are to be part of the American Legion and the services they provide to veterans and the community. I look forward to visiting the fish fry again some time soon.

Also at the luncheon, we were informed by Bill Hoeffer, President of SSM St. Clare Health Center, of a hot topic in our state and federal government: Medicare and Medicaid Expansion. This is a political issue that affects everyone. Although the Fenton Chamber does not take a position on this subject, you are encouraged to let your voice be heard by contacting your representatives in our State Capital.

There are a few events coming up you certainly do not want to miss! The upcoming Connect Over Coffee event on Thursday, April 25th will be held at T.A.S.K. This interactive member-to-member networking event is definitely a benefit to your membership. The event last quarter proved to be a hit with the crowd and I‘m sure T.A.S.K will be a great venue. Also rapidly approaching is the 2013 Business and Community Fair, taking place on May 29th at Rockwood Summit High School. Booth registration, advertising and sponsorships are now available and quickly selling out. Make sure you reserve your space today. The Chamber is also looking for volunteers that day for setup, assistance during the event and clean-up.

In closing, I would like everyone to understand that the Fenton Chamber of Commerce Staff and Board of Directors are dedicated to helping to make sure each and every member utilizes and benefit from their membership to the fullest. If you have any comments or questions regarding your membership or Chamber programs, contact the Chamber Office. Remember, SHOP CHAMBER FIRST!

Sincerely,

Greg Bresler President-Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce Board President General Manager-Andre‘s Banquets and Catering

When Jeannie asked me to write something for this edition of the Fenton Focus Newsletter, I thought back to 2001 when I first took office. At that time, the relationship between the Fenton Chamber and the City was—well, let‘s just say it wasn‘t where it should‘ve been. Very often, the two organizations seemed to be at cross purposes, and cooperation was essentially non-existent.

What a difference a few years and the right people can make. Today, the City of Fenton and the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce work very closely on projects and events that affect our entire community. A great example is last year‘s 175th anniversary celebration and bridge dedication. Working together, we not only were able to celebrate two very significant milestones in our City‘s history, but we did it in the City‘s birthplace – Olde Towne Fenton.

We are true partners in our economic development efforts as well. The improvements we were able to make on I-44, together with MoDOT and our congressional delegation, were a result of that partnership. When Chrysler announced the investment of one billion dollars in its Fenton plants, the Chamber was there, helping us to lure suppliers to the City. And a few years later, on that sad day when Chrysler announced its closing of the plants, the Chamber and the City worked together to establish a retraining center for the displaced workers. And the Heroes Memorial in Fenton City Park would still be a dream if not for the assistance of the Chamber. But an organization is only as good as its people. And the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce has one of the best in Executive Director, Jeannie Braun. Jeannie is a consummate professional who isn‘t afraid to roll up her sleeves and actually work. Jeannie has brought growth to the Chamber, and the Fenton community is blessed to have her in that role. It has been my honor to serve Fenton as its Mayor for the last twelve years. I‘ve seen a lot of changes during that time, and have met a lot of truly outstanding people, but the strong relationship that we‘ve built with the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce is, I believe, one of the top accomplishments of my time in office. Thank you for the great memories, I will cherish them always. Mayor Dennis Hancock
