Regular -AR Verbs This week we are going to learn about regular verbs. You already know a lot of these: salta, come, grita, escribe, habla. You also know that if their endings change, it changes who is doing the action like:
• Gritas= you yell • Escribe= he/she writes • Hablo= I talk • Saltan= they jump
First we will look at just the verbs that end in AR like: SALTAR & HABLAR. In Spanish, the present tense is formed by changing the ending of the verb. All AR verbs will use these endings below:
Pronoun ending Pronoun ending
Yo -o Nosotros -amos Tú -as Vosotros -áis Usted/ -a él/ella
Ustedes -an Ellos/ellas
Follow these steps to conjugate AR verbs in the present tense. Step 1: Take off the AR ending:
HABLAR HABL (this is called the stem)
Step 2: Add the correct ending from the table above to the stem:
Yo / Hablar habl habl + o yo hablo
Yo hablo Nosotros hablamos
Tú hablas Vosotros habláis Usted/ habla él/ella
Ustedes hablan Ellos/ellas

(outside of the boot) ■ -er verbs have all their own forms; -ir verbs only have 2 of their own
