“Peter filled with the Holy Spirit said: ‘Leaders of the people and elders: If we are be-ing examined today about a good deed done to a cripple, namely, by what means he was saved, then all of you and all the people of Israel should know that it was done in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarean whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead; in His name this man stands today before you healed… There is no salvation
through anyone else.” When people inquire where they should begin reading the bible, I suggest a great place is in the Acts of the Apostles, and in particular the kerygmatic sermons of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. They are clear and concise statements about Jesus, His passion and resurrection, and through the Spirit are the source of the enthusiasm as the two great preachers tell of their reason for preaching. It was not much earlier that Peter denied and Paul persecuted those who were curious and seeking. That is what we are about as we reflect on His Word Today and every day – we are desirous of knowing and lov-ing Jesus better, and as we do, we serve as His witness. The great sermons, the announcement or procla-mation give meaning to our lives as disciples and are the call to others to come to Jesus.
“Pedro, lleno del Espíritu Santo, dijo: ‘Jefes del pueblo y ancianos, ya que hoy se nos pide cuenta del bien que hicimos a un enfermo y de cómo fue curado, sepan ustedes y todo el pueblo de Israel: este hombre está aquí sano delante de ustedes por el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo de Nazaret, al que ustedes crucificaron y Dios resucitó de entre los muertos… Porque no existe bajo el cielo otro Nombre dado a los hombres, por el cual podamos alcanzar la salvación.’” Cuando la gente pregunta en qué parte deberían empezar a leer la biblia, les sugiero un pasaje excelente en los Hechos de los Apóstoles, y en particular los carismáticos sermones de San Pedro y San Pablo. Hablan de Jesús clara y consisamente, de su pasión y resurección, y a través del Espíritu son la fuente de entusiasmo por la cual los dos grandes predicadores se dedicaban a evangelizar. No hacía mucho que Pedro lo había negado y que Pablo perseguía a los seguidores. De eso se trata cuando refleccionamos en Su Palabra Hoy y todos los días: estamos deseosos de conocimiento y de amar mejor a Jesús, y al hacerlo, servimos como Sus testigos. Los grandes sermones, los anuncios o proclamaciones dan sentido a nuestras vidas como discípulos y son un llamado a otros para acercarse a Jesús.

Li oppone e li divide la natura intima del rapporto con le pecore: la non appartenenza per il mercenario e l’appartenenza per il pastore. Se le pecore non ti appartengono te ne vai quando arriva
il lupo e le lasci alla sua mercé. Se sei un mercenario non t’importa delle pecore e non ti importa perché non le conosci. Non le conosci “per esperienza”, non le conosci per amore: esse non sono tue. E da che cosa si vede se sono tue? Che dai la vita per loro. Gesù dà la vita per noi. È lui che ce la dà, tiene a precisare, nessuno gliela toglie. Lui, solo lui, ha il potere di offrire la sua vita e di riprenderla di nuovo. In questo sta la sua autorevolezza, nel potere dell’impotenza, a cui Dio nella morte si è volontariamente esposto. Gli uomini possono seguire Gesù solo in forza di questa sua autorevolezza. Per essa ne conoscono la voce, subiscono il fascino della sua Presenza, si dispongono alla sequela. Solo nel vivere questa appartenenza il cristiano diventa a sua volta autorevole, cioè capace di incontrare l’altro, di amarlo e di dar la sua vita per lui. L’appartenenza fa essere eco fragile e tenace della sua Presenza e suscita la nostalgia di poterlo incontrare.

A volunteer sign up sheet for all of our pa-rishioners is available in the back of the church. Volunteers are needed to help with the many activities of the Festa. In order to have a successful Festa we need all the help we can
receive. We ask that you please consider helping your parish conduct this event for
