A note for you: Our relationship with God depends on what kind of idea we have of God. Not all of us have a positive way of understanding God. Some believe that God is a very demanding person who will punish or send us to hell if we do not do exactly what He wants. These will have a great fear of God. Others believe that they need to earn the love of God by the things we do. These will always be worried that they are not doing enough to please him even when it is not possible to do more. Others believe that God has to give us what we ask. If they don’t receive what they ask for they believe that God doesn’t love us of they get angry with Him. Other believe that God really isn’t interested in us or our problems. They believe that it’s not worth the effort to try to develop a relationship with God. These ideas about how God is, keep us from having the kind or relationship with Him as He wants. They make it impossible to come close to Him. They separate us from Him. The truth is that God is very different from those negative ideas about Him. He wants to have an intimate relationship of love and confidence with us. To understand this, the Son of God became a human – Jesus. Through Jesus, God becomes visible for us. Jesus shows us by His words and example that God loves everyone without exception. He loves sinners, the sick, those who are despised, and even enemies. He wants us to love Him like He loves us. Clearly, He also wants us to try to reject all evil from our lives. But He wants us to do it not out of fear but rather because we love Him and we know that evil makes it difficult to have an intimate relationship with Him. He doesn’t want anything to separate us from Him. “I am certain that nothing can sepa-rate us from His love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly ruler or power, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below. There is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to sepa-rate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord”. (Romans 8:38-39). Only we can choose to separate ourselves from Him. But even then He will still keep loving us.

Una nota para ti: Nuestra relación con Dios depende de la idea que tenemos de Dios. No todos tenemos una manera positiva de comprender a Dios. Unos creen que Dios es una persona muy exigente que nos castigará o nos mandará al infierno si no hacemos exactamente lo que Él quiere. Estas per-sonas tendrán miedo de Él. Otros creen que tienen que ganarse el favor o el amor de Dios con cosas que hacemos. Ellos estarán siempre ansiosos creyendo que no están haciendo lo suficiente para complacerlo, aun cuando ya no es posible hacer más. Otros creen que Dios tiene que darnos todo lo que pedimos. Si no reciben lo que quieren, creen que El no les ama o se enojan con El. Otros creen que Dios no tiene interés en nosotros y nuestros problemas. Creen que no vale la pena tratar de desarrollar una relación con Dios. Estas ideas de cómo es Dios, nos impiden tener una relación con El como El desea. Nos hace imposible que nos acerquemos a Él. Esto nos separa de Él. En realidad Dios es muy diferente a esas ideas negativas que tenemos de Él. Él quiere tener una relación intima de amor y amistad y confianza con noso-tros. Para que comprendiéramos esto, el hijo de Dios se hizo humano, Je-sús. Por Jesús, Dios se hace visible a nosotros. Jesús nos muestra con sus palabras y ejemplo que Dios nos ama a todos sin excepción. Ama a los pe-cadores, a los enfermos, a los rechazados y aun a los enemigos. Quiere que nosotros lo amemos a El como Él nos ama a nosotros. Claro, Él también quiere que tratemos de rechazar todo el mal de nuestras vidas. Pero quiere que lo hagamos no por miedo, sino porque lo amamos a Él y sabemos que los males hacen más difícil tener esa relación íntima con El. Él quiere que no haya nada que nos separe de Él. “Estoy convencido de que nada podrá separarnos del amor de Dios: ni la muerte, ni la vida, ni los ángeles, ni los poderes y fuerzas espirituales, ni lo presente, ni lo futuro, ni lo alto, ni lo profundo, ninguna otra de las cosas creadas por Dios. Nada podrá separarnos del amor que Dios nos ha mostrado en Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor”. (Romanos 8:38-39) Solo nosotros podemos decidir separarnos de Él. Pero aun así, El seguirá amándonos.
