HELLO NARWHALS!!!
I am so incredibly excited to officially be serving as your 2015-2016 President! My love
for this club and all of you is irrevocable and I cannot wait to see all of the fantastic effects
that we are going to have on our community. It is YOU that inspired me to take on this role
and it is YOU that is going to be a part of the amazing difference we will make together.
Now most of you know me, but for those of you who don’t I am a current Junior and
this is my third year of being a narwhal. At my freshmen year club rush I heard past President
and LTG, Paolo Recto, screaming the How Do You Feel? cheer with his tutu on and I
instantly ran over to see what club it was. Of course, it was Key Club. After going to my first
meeting, I was hooked. The service. The spirit. My ohana. After serving as Tech Editor my
sophomore year and VP my junior year, my love for this club has reached an unfathomable
height and I know that it will only continue to skyrocket.
Why am I obsessed with this club one may ask? Well yes, Fall Rally and District
Convention are incredibly fun and memorable, but what is the true reason I am a narwhal
through and through? It is for the service. Waking up before the sun to help at a Kiwanis
Garage Sale or getting glue on my face for eight hours while I decorate Rose Floats or
making crafts with little kids is why I am here. My main goal this year is to give all of you as
many opportunities to serve your community as I possibly can because these Key Club
moments are what truly counts.
This is our year, my fellow Narwhals. I promise you that we are going to create so
many smiles and memories that your cheeks will hurt. I am here to serve YOU. I will be there
for you in every way that I can. I hope to make this year extremely organized (you might
have noticed by my Prezis) so that you know absolutely everything that we are doing! I also
plan on getting everyone involved by having Google Chat calls in order for you to have
input on what service projects that you want to do.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the
March events and I hope that even more will come to
the April events! You can see the details for those
events in this newsletter. I cannot wait to get to know all
of you and become one Ohana.

CNH District Convention
The 2015 Cali-Nev-Ha District Convention
was held at the Anaheim Convention Center from
March 13th through March 15th. At this
convention, myself and 20 other Key Club
members from Santa Susana experienced an
unforgettable weekend. When we arrived on
Friday, we got to attend a spirit rally with 2,500 Key
Club members from all three states and watch
performances. On Saturday, we attended various
seminars in which we were able to learn about
organizations that we can fundraise for, how to
hold better meetings, what our officer position
entails, etc. Saturday night consisted of an awards
ceremony in which myself and two other members
received gold member recognition. Our past
president, Lorraine, received platinum recognition!
At the awards ceremony, the 2015-2016 District
board was also announced! There was also a
Governor’s Ball after the ceremony where we all
got to dance and have a great time with each
other. On the last day of the convention, there
was a final general session and lots of pictures. I
am so incredibly grateful that I got to attend my
second District Convention because I got to know
so many more amazing Key Club members and
be inspired for my upcoming term as President.

Knolls Father-Daughter Dance
On Friday, March 6th, I volunteered to help set-up
the annual Father-Daughter Dance at Knolls Elementary.
This year the theme was Wonderland so we filled the MPR
with mystical and magical decorations. I helped with
hanging up lights and flowers, putting tablecloths on, and
hanging wall decor. The event turned out beautiful and all
of the little girls were so excited for their dance. This was
my second year volunteering at this event and I love
helping out each time. It is such a joy seeing all of the girls’
faces light up when they see their dance and helping out
at this events with my fellow Key Club members.

Township Craft Day
On Thursday, March 26th, Santa Susana Key Club
members went to Township Elementary and held a craft
day! We had a great turnout with nearly 80 kids were there
ranging from preschool to 6th grade. First we played Simon
Says with the kids to get them excited for the crafts. After
that, we split the kids up into groups of 7 and gave them a
choice of making either a butterfly or a bunny with their
group leader. After they finished their craft, they were able
to make flowers, bracelets, or rocket ships until they got
picked up. I was so happy that so many kids came and how
excited they were about their crafts. We will be doing more
craft days so everyone should try to volunteer at them
because you can’t help but smile when working with the
kids!

Cards for the Children’s Hospital
After school on Friday, March 27th, Key Club decided to
brighten up a child’s day with a card. We wrote inspirational
quotes/ spring messages and drew pictures with stickers on
cards to send to the Children’s Hospital. These children are
incredible for fighting against their illnesses and we wanted to
show how much we support them. Knowing that we are
creating smiles on their faces is such an amazing feeling. If you
missed out on this card day, there will be more to come for
various causes!

Kiwanis Governor’s Banquet
On Sunday, March 29th, I attended a banquet with the
presidents from Royal and Simi along with out LTG, Kevin Nguyen. At this
luncheon the Cali-Nev-Ha Governor visited with his wife along with
Kiwanis members and leaders from all over Ventura and Santa Barbara
county. It was a pleasure meeting the Kiwanis governor because he
does so much for our organization. He even gave me his pin! :)

Message from the Editor
~ Hello Narwhals ~
Thank you so much for reading my first newsletter as your editor! It really
means a lot to me. It would help a lot if we got more people to send in articles, and
if you do, you will receive service hours!
I hope you all had a wonderful spring break and that you feel well rested so
that you can get serving! Another reminder that school is slowly nearing the end of
the year, but that doesn’t mean that the service opportunities will slow with it!
I’m very excited to serve as your new editor and this is such an amazing
opportunity for me already. I hope that all of you are having as much fun with their
key club experience as I have been!
Sailing in Service,
