I am very fortunate to spend part of my time as a Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach at Eastview High School in Apple Valley. This will be my 6th year as Head Coach and while we have had our share of success, we have never won a State Championship. It is my number 1 goal. I understand and fully accept my responsibility as a mentor and leader of young men both in society and in the classroom, but darn it, I want to win State. At the Chamber (business) level, coaching always makes me reflect on why I am in business. What is my goal? What do I want to achieve? I can’t just show up every day, work hard, but have no end goal in mind. Can I? To quote a line from one of our favorite Childhood movies:
“Excuse me, Sir,” Alice inquires. “Could you tell me which road to take?” Wisely, the
caterpillar asks, “Where are you going?” Somewhat dismayed, Alice responds, “Oh, I don’t
know where I am going, Sir.” “Well,” replied the caterpillar, “if you don’t know where you
are going, it really doesn’t matter which road you take.”
(Alice in Wonderland – Lewis Carrol) It’s easy to get stuck in a ‘rut’, of sorts, and just show up every day, work hard, but yet have no clear path in mind to our objectives. Whether it is a sale, a promotion, an acquisition, a key hire, or just plan ‘ol economic development (aka: financial security) you are striving for, we need to set out and plan a path to that goal, and follow it diligently. The Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce is your ally as you follow that path. Sometimes you’ll need to call us, sometimes we’ll be setup on the side of the path ready to help, and some-times we’ll shine a big bright light on the path to follow, but ultimately, we are here to help you with your business ‘Economic Development’ goals. I am always happy to meet with members to discuss your business goals and potentially target specific areas within the Chamber that will help you achieve them. Please feel free to contact me at the chamber office at 763-571-9781 or [email protected].
