November 2016 Welcome to Fall in Arrowhead Estates. As we begin to close the books on 2018, it has been an honor to serve our community as the HOA Board of Directors. Our team of certified HOA volunteers remains committed to serving the community of over 150 beautiful homes. We are well managed by Vista Community Management and are financially secure with a balanced budget and exciting solutions to maintain our community. We hope you have noticed the transformation at the front entrance as we are working to beautify the flower/plant beds, which was starting to show its years. We are so happy to see neighbors and friends walking with their children and pets enjoying our safe neighborhood. Looking ahead to 2019, our focus continues to address the best interests of our residents and their quality of life. Your HOA’s responsibilities include safety and the protection of our property values for our community. Please be safe as the holidays approach and THANK YOU for your help in keeping Arrowhead Estates a great place to live! Hi Neighbors….I am Bob Dunbar, married to Susan and we have lived on Dream Catcher Court for the past sixteen years. I retired from Long Island, NY after 34 years with the Port Washington Water Pollution Control district as a supervisor. Sue and I fell in love with

this area when our daughter moved down to work for Disney and decided to retire and build our home here in Arrowhead. I was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1969 and am also a combat vet of the Vietnam war stationed on the DMZ 67-68 with an artillery base. Veterans Day….November 11th

is a day each year that we recognize the dedication, sacrifice and hard work of all who have provided their loyal service to our country. Let our veterans know that we deeply appreciate all they have done to keep us safe and our country free.

An annual event, the Arrowhead Estates Scarecrow contest combines fun, creativity and community building as residents compete for the top prize.

This year we had more participants than before. The creativity was over the top, but best of all the level of community support is very much appreciated. The contestants were judged by a “celebrity” panel and here are the winners:

14627 Dream Catcher (A REPEAT winner!!) took FIRST PLACE with their scarecrows roasting marshmallows over a campfire.

SECOND PLACE went to 16413 Arrowhead Trail created to scare the goblins away.

THIRD PLACE 16007 Arrowhead Trail is a real piece of art - with a vintage wagon all ready for the Fall season!

First and foremost, thank you, Neighbors, for all the cute scarecrows this year. It truly made Arrowhead Estates come to life. Secondly, all who participated are winners for believing in the event. Thank you! See pics at the end of this newsletter.

Keep in mind that the Third Annual Scarecrow contest will be here before you know it. Hopefully you will be part of it.... whether by displaying a scarecrow, or just driving through. Thank you to all!

Is your mailbox broken down and sad?

A coat of paint or new numbers can make it look like new. A beat up, old mailbox does not add curb appeal to a house. Many mailbox numbers around the neighborhood are in need of repair. Nowadays we don’t seem to display our house numbers as much as we used to when growing up and this may be due to technology changing, allowing us to find properties easier. However, there are important aspects to consider when it comes to displaying our numbers for people to see clearly. It’s a scary thought that in an emergency, if they cannot find you, that is vital time you are losing. Emergency services do struggle with finding numbers from a street view and it is highly difficult to see at night. Deliveries – as in Amazon (oops! they know where I live!), pizza guy, appliance repair, utilities – are just some who would benefit from some new numbers on your mailbox (and home). Deliveries will be on time (most of the time). Is your mailbox falling apart? Has it been accidentally damaged? Our neighborhood works with Beautiful Mailboxes from Miami/Hialeah area. Their website is http://beautifulmailbox.com/ Phone number is 888-389-6286. Home Depot and Lowe’s also have mailboxes that will work. Replacement of mailboxes must look identical to those in the neighborhood. The box, post top, and décor must be identical in color and style.

What’s haunting your ENERGY BILL?

“Does wasting $100 sound scary to you? That’s about what the average U.S. household spends each year on phantom load. Phantom load is the electricity used by appliances and electronic devices while they’re turned off or not doing their primary job. There may be up to 40 of these devices lurking in your home. Big power suckers include TVs, cable boxes, video consoles and battery chargers.

Give up the energy ghosts! While it is impossible to completely rid you home of phantom load, there are actions you can take to conjure up some real savings:Pull the plug on devices that are rarely used, such as the TV and DVD player in the guest room. Plug groups of devices, such as computer clusters and entertainment centers, into a power strip for easy power shutoff. Unplug charging devices when they’re not charging anything. Use advanced power strips for computers and other devices. These ‘smart’ strips sense when a device is turned off or not being used and automatically shuts off power. Purchase ENERGY STAR certified appliances and electronic devices. ENERGY STAR products use less energy and typically draw less standby power than standard models.

Still spooked by high energy costs? Keep searching (if you dare) and you’ll likely spot other forms of energy waste hiding in the darkest corners of your home. Find them before it’s too late.”

These and other fun facts (along with some “energizing” articles) can be found in the monthly Duke Energy newsletter, Current Times. https://www.duke-energy.com/home You can also request a streetlight repair on this website.

POOL RULES REMINDER

1. PLEASE lock the door when you leave. ONLY key holders are allowed in the pool area. Do NOT squeeze through or over the bars.

2. Guests must be accompanied by a homeowner. Homeowner is responsible for their guests!

3. Pool and Parking areas close at dusk to residents and their guests.

School’s in Session! When bus lights and stop signs are activated, vehicles must stop in both directions unless they are separated from the bus by a median. The state of Florida pulls no punches when it comes to the safety of its students. Did you know that they even take into account which side of the bus you chose when violating the law. While neither side is necessarily "safer," the amount of danger to kids sharply increases if you pass the bus on the right-hand side, as this is the side that the children use to step off of the bus.

If you pass the bus on the right-handside, you will pay a minimum fine of $265 for your first offense. A second offense within 5 years of this nature carries an additional $265 fine, as well as the probable suspension of your license for 180 days to one year and a mandatory court hearing.

Drivers who pass on the left-hand side are no less culpable for their actions. Your first offense will cost you $165, and a second offense will add another $165 to that total, along with possible license suspension of 90 days to 6 months.

Remember - Kids are Just Kids! Although all parents warn their children about the dangers of traffic, we need to remember that children are still young and still learning. With all of the distractions and noises that are abundant on school buses, it's easy to imagine a child stepping off of the bus and not being able to hear oncoming traffic. We are the adults; it is our duty to abide by the laws put in place and give our children a safe environment in which to learn, play, and grow. Drive like your kids live here…because they do! Slow down! We all like to live in vibrant, bustling neighborhoods, but this means people, especially kids, need to feel safe when walking or biking around.

We can learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull.

Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the

same box.

November 27, 2018, 6:30 PM at the Clermont Baptist Church, Old Hwy 50. Hope to see you there! Proxy Vote:

The HOA Board meets the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December). The general session begins promptly at 6:30 PM at the Clermont Baptist Church off Old 50 behind our neighborhood.

Members are always welcome. Some members simply come and observe while others contribute to the topics discussed. If you have a specific problem and want to address the Board, it is helpful to contact Vista prior to the meeting in order to be placed on our agenda. Prior contact helps us maintain a better schedule for our meetings.
