1. The Voyage To New Zealand Hi my name is Joshua and Im 11 years old. The year today is 1830. My parents died when I was 10. Im poor and when I dont have enough food, I sometimes steal it. also I come from a small village in Chelsea. ( Which is in England of course.)

2. Day 1

• Im getting on the ship in 30 minutes, Im so excited. I can also see lots of people being excited too.

3. Day 1 on the ship

• When everyone got on the ship, our captain introduced himself. He said that his name was Captain Edwards. So far he is being nice to me.

4. Day 7

• This is my 7 th day on the ship and there is seasickness going on already. Today (3 hours ago) an old woman died because she got the flu from the rats on the ship. I was so scared but Captain Edwards put his right hand on my shoulder and said dont worry son there is nothing to be scared of while youre with me.

5. Day 12 Dear diary, today I made a new friend. His name is Steve. He is 12 years old and he doesnt have any parents. They died when he was 5. He told me he worked everyday and got paid 2 pounds a day so thats how he bought a ticket.

6. Day 15

• Everyday me and Steve like to watch how dolphins jump all around the boat. Steve said Maybe they are traveling to New Zealand as well. Maybe, I said.

• I was playing with Steve then I made a new friend called Andrew. We play every day and we are all in the same cabin! Today one of the sailors' died because he fell in the ocean and he was also sick.

10. Day 25

• We have been bored, because a family also on the other side of our cabin got sick . Me and my friends have a teacher. We have been doing some fun work with her (not as boring as in Chelsea, England).

11. Day 50

• Me and my friends got sick and we have to lie in bed. A couple of hours later our captain came into our room and gave us a hot cup of tea and some cookies. It was so good I think its the best food we have had in a couple of days.

12. Day 51

• I see land I cried out and me and my friends all run and look. We are so happy. And also we are so close to getting to New Zealand. Altogether 7 people died. Andrew said that we are so lucky to be alive.

13. Day 52, We are here!

• Im so happy we are here in New Zealand! Me and my friends met some Maori people and we started working for them and living with them. After all Im not hungry any more.

14. Dear Diary

• Hello, do you remember me! My name is Joshua and Im 30 years old now. There are over 1 thousand people living in this city (the city Im living in is Christchurch). The year today is 1850. I have a wife now and two children (boy and a girl called Edward and Catherine).
