ASAP 3.0 Client – Compatibility•ASAP 3.0 Client is compatible with all ASAP server versions

− ASAP 1.x servers

− ASAP 2.x servers

− ASAP 3.x servers

− ASAP 3.0 client does not require ASAP 3.0 server

•Example − ASAP 3.0 Client can run with ASAP 2.8 server

− This is possible because ASAP 3.0 EDL compiler is compatible with 2.x versions of EDL language (ASAP Client meta-data is portable across server versions)

Page 17: ASAP Overview 3.0 Release

17 6 August 2008

ASAP 3.0 Client – EDL Changes• ASAP 3.0 EDL Changes

− ASAP3 Factory.EDL does new “INCLUDEs” on...• New Asap3app.EDL which is unchanged, but forms placeholder for Asap3app.EDL• New Asap3sys.EDL which contains changes to entities

− SWAP Entity is new in ASAP 3.0• 42 new attributes are associated with Swap entity• Many additional drill-down details available via right-mouse, Show Object Details menu

− CPU Entity EDL includes new 6 memory stats state pairs (GOAL-able)• Memory Size• Memory Swappable• Memory Free• Memory Locked• Max Memory that can be locked• Highest locked memory since Cpu load

− Spooler has Unique Batch jobs attribute and state pair− TCP and Telserv now included in base product along with 7 new sub-entities:

• TcpArp – Address Resolution Protocol• TcpIcmp6 – V6 Internet Control Message Protocol• TcpIgmp – Internet Group Management Protocol• TcpIP6 – V6 Internet Protocol Statistics• TcpLoop – Loopback statistics• TcpMonGQ – TCPMON Global Queue Statistics• TcpSock – Socket Migration Protocol Statistics

Page 19: ASAP Overview 3.0 Release

19 6 August 2008

ASAP 3.0 TCP/IP Entity• Monitors IPv4 and IPv6 (in all modes)

− Prior version only monitored IPv6 using SAM processes• Required SAM to be running in each CPU with TCP6MON

• SAM statistics found to be incomplete and unreliable

− New version bypasses SAM processes, goes directly to TCP6MON processes

• Monitors Routes, Subnets, all Protocols, QIO, Global Queue− Monitors every attribute available for TCP/IP

− More data points than SCF provides!

• Optionally monitors Port connections − Connection status

− Opener on NSK side

− Foreign IP Address and Port

− Active protocol

− And much more!

ASAP 3.0 SWAP EntityOperating Systems have 2 types of memory:

1. Physical Memory

Built into the processor chip and on additional memory boards

2. Virtual Memory

Temporary memory stored in disk files referred to as swap files

Memory pages are swapped between physical memory and disk swap files

NonStop Server Memory managed two ways:

1. Defining conventional swap files for an executing process

2. Kernel Managed Swap Facility (KMSF)

Page 23: ASAP Overview 3.0 Release

23 6 August 2008

ASAP 3.0 SWAP EntityNew Swap Entity• Allows user defined

thresholds to be set on KMSF values:

− Virtual Swap Space

− Number of Swap files

− Number Pages reserved

− Pages Available

− Sum of Reservations

− Creates OK/Failed

− Release OK/Failed

− Resizes OK/Failed

− Allocations OK/Failed

− Frees OK/Failed

24 6 August 2008

ASAP 3.0 SWAP Entity− SWAP MONITORING and GOALS

• The SWAP SGP discovers all of the Swap files configured in KMSF

• User monitoring in this release is only by CPU and not by individual swap file

− MONITOR SWAP <Cpu-No>

• Goals can be set on the following Swap attributes:

− Status

− Files

− TotalSwap in MB

− Reserved in MB

− Available in MB

− Reservations

− Creates OK/Failed

− Release OK/Failed

− Resize OK/Failed

− Allocates OK/Failed

− Frees OK/Failed

• Goal Swap 3, Files = 4, CreatesFailed < 5, TotalSwap > 4200

28 6 August 2008

ASAP 3.0 DB Enhancements• Historical database now supports RELATIVE files

− Improves performance 10x or more by reducing block splits found in key-sequenced files

− Most useful for Entities (System and User) with large records

− Uses an alternate key for high-speed read performance

− Use SET PARTITION <entity> | DEFAULT TYPE R

− TCP Entity defaults to type RELATIVE

• Can now turn REFRESH OFF− REFRESH causes rewrite of file label for each EOF change

− All database tables have always defaulted to REFRESH ON

− Use SET PARTITION <entity> | SET PARTITION DEFAULT REFRESH OFF

• High-speed Database Options− SET BUFFERED ON

− SET PARTITION DEFAULT REFRESH OFF

− SET PARTITION <entity> TYPE R (for entities with large records)
