related concepts and the model for option

options are imbedded in important nan-

options), debt analysis (call-able loans),
and capital structure (limited liability,
credit risk and the use of warrants).
In Corporate Governance and Agency

structure and company behaviour and
performance in different markets. The

Denmark from both a theoretical angle
and by means of the current competition
law in Denmark and EU. At the same
time, you will gain insight into empirical
tools and indicators estimating the cur-

International Economics
The course will provide you with the
analytical framework to improve your
understanding of how an open economy
(as for instance the Danish economy) is
embedded in the international economy
and the possibilities but also limitations a
still increasing connection to the outside

I like the fact that we have a lot of different cul-

In addition, the social life is really awesome! The

Also I couldnt imagine a more charming largercity than Aarhus. If you seek out both the aca-

hundreds of them at ASB. If you want to get some
experience and fun from day-one you can join a
union. Here you decide yourself what you want to
do, e.g. sit in a sales position where the buyers are
big international companies like Mrsk, Danfoss

Language Prociency
and US/UK Society
The aim of the course is to enable you to
understand the main points of a complex
text and to participate with relative ease
in an English conversation about a range
of topics. This aim also includes enhanc-
ing your ability to argue for a point of
view.
A further aim of the course is to increase
your ability to produce written texts
about general topics related to society.
The course also gives you an introduction
to contemporary British and American
history by focusing on the main political, social and cultural structures and a wide
knowledge of the societal structures of
the UK and US will prepare you for better
understanding and maintaining a range
of communicative functions in relation to
the UK/US.
Intercultural Communication
The current trend towards multicultural-
ism in society has meant that business
companies now interact with a growing
number of people from different cultural
and linguistic backgrounds. If managed
successfully, intercultural encounters
represent an opportunity to acquire
knowledge about language, behaviours
and values that deviate from your own,
and to use cultural awareness to gain
a competitive advantage. If neglected,
cultural differences may undermine the
position of the company, possibly result-
ing in employee dissatisfaction, costly
misunderstandings or indeed the loss of
market shares.
The course aims to increase your aware-
ness of the importance of cultural dif-
ferences in business; to develop your
analytical skills; and to enable you to take
a pragmatic approach to intercultural
communication.
International Management
Firms are increasingly dealing with
aspects of cross cultural management.
This is true not only for multinational
rms operating on a world-wide base, but
also for domestic rms which face multi-
cultural environments (e.g. ethnically
diverse employees and/or customers).
Businesses operating internationally
need employees who understand and are
able to deal effectively with the cultural
variety. Therefore, analytical as well aspractical skills which help manage effec-
tively in multinational rms are increas-
ingly important.
This course examines organizational and
individual behaviours, structures, and
management practices in multi-nationals
and in business situations involving cross
cultural interactions.
We cover a variety of theories that relate
culture to behaviors in general and man-
agement in particular.
The course is broadly organized around
the four themes:
1. te impac f ces gaizais
2. Maai cultural diersit
3. Desigig ieaia gaizais
4. Maagig gba maages.
Together, knowledge of these four areas
provides you with a broad understanding
of the main issues relating to interna-
tional management.

At ASB there seemed to be a fantastic atmosphere with a lot of interesting people. I instantly felt that this was the
place for me. I had visited several universities in Denmark, but this was simply the rst place I felt at home. The
reason I chose to study Logistics was the strong link between quantitative sciences and soft management ideas
which is essential in modern supply chain thinking. I had no doubt that the importance of the science of logisticswould only grow in importance in the future. I now work as a manager for the Forecasting Department in the
Market & Operations Development area in the LEGO Group. I have the demand focus in the global Sales & Op-

Foundation of Research
In this course we introduce three perspec-
tives positivistic, interpretive, and critical
and their underlying assumptions con-
cerning the generation of scientic knowl-
edge and its impact on our lives.
Cost Management Concepts,
Perspectives and Practices
Cost management is a central activity
within nancial management. Without a
deep rooted understanding of the nan-
cial situation of the company and the -
nancial implications of future events, the
company is likely to lose orientation and
reduce the room for maneuvering.
Production Planning and Control
During the past decades integrated plan-
ning and accounting systems have de-
veloped rapidly. Using these systems in
connection with cost management tech-
niques such as ABC, balanced scorecard
etc. has created much better opportuni-
ties to model the physical processes and
activities, which generate costs in connec-
tion to design, production and marketing.
Advanced Excel
IT and specically Excel and VBA pro -
gramming have a huge spread in practiceand are widely used for accountants and
controllers. The amount of available data
has increased extensively in many compa-
nies, partly due to the use of ERP systems
and Data warehousing. As a consequence,
there is a need for economists with the
ability to extract the relevant date and
perform valid quantitative analysis.
Strategy and Management Accounting
In this course different elements of strat-
egy formulation and strategic manage-
ment accounting will be discussed and
analysed. An important element involves
the provision of information for the for-
mulation of an organisations strategy
and managing strategy implementation
and its importance for management
accounting.
Accounting Information Systems gives
you an outline of the different types of
administrative programmes, their de-
signs, application, implementation and
security. In recent years, there has been a
rapid development in the use of informa-
tion technology in the accounting depart-
ments of companies.

Planning and Budgeting
Budgeting plays a central role in planning
and structuring organisations strategies.
Budgeting coordinates the organisations
strategies and business units. It is used as a
tool for structuring and creating guidelines
for activities and moreover to allocate re-
sources and responsibilities.
Management Control:
Performance Management
Performance management plays an in-
creasingly important role in all types of
organizations. It comprises both perfor-
mance measurement techniques and ap-proaches which may be adopted in using
these techniques to exercise control, e.g.
result control, action control, interactive
control, and personnel and social control.
International Financial Accounting I
After attending the course, you should at
an intermediate level understand and be
able to apply the requirements for recogni-
tion in the published yearly report.
International Financial Accounting II
The aim of this class is to develop an un-
derstanding of the relevance of accounting
information for decision making, and the

Introduction to Information
Systems Management
The purpose of this course is to expose
students to the managerial challenges
created by the use of information and
communication technologies in organiza-
tions. To this end, the course draws on
multiple action-based learning tools to
challenge the students to build an indi-
vidual approach to leveraging informa-
tion and communication technology dur-
ing their managerial career.
Advanced Topics in IS Development
and Implementation
The course provides the students with
business related aspects of information
systems development and implementation.
The students will be presented with a
range of methods and techniques that can
be used to understand, plan and execute
the processes in which information sys-
tems are developed, implemented, evalu-
ated and modied.
Organisational Theory
Using theoretical inspiration from a
number of interrelated elds such as
(social)psychology, sociology, economics,
ethnography and philosophy, this course
presents a vast number of theories, models
and terms suited for analysing organiza-
tions. These approaches are organised in
a number of metaphors which each set
the framework for some traditional and
modern takes on organisations.
IS Research and Practice
In this course we introduce three perspec-
tives positivist, interpretive, and criti-
cal and their underlying assumptions
concerning the generation of scientic
knowledge in IS research and its impact
on our lives. We emphasize the relevance
of these perspectives when conducting IS
research and/or when addressing real-life
managerial problems related to informa-
tion systems.

business performance through IT.
Project Management
The aim of the course is to provide the
student with knowledge about centraltopics related to working in projects. The
course is divided into to two logical parts.
Part one focuses on basic tools and meth-
ods. Part two discusses more soft topics
(project organisation, implementation of

IS Strategy and Management
The aim of this course is to provide
the students with an understanding of
IS strategic management and how IT
resources can be managed within or-
ganisations in order to create business
opportunities and benets. Information
technology and enterprise systems are
becoming more and more widespread

MSc in finance is a general uniersit
education in inance It proides students
with thorough nowledge o and compe-
tence in inance Upon graduation, our
students are expected to begin careers
in inancial institutions, regulator bodies,
consulting business or inance depart-
ments in non-inancial companies
The programme has a clearly dened struc-
ture with a focus on global nance so the
programme is relevant for all international
students. The global nancial markets are
highly developed and integrated and as a
consequence of this complexity and sophis-
tication, there is an increasing demand for
graduates with degrees in nance at the
highest level. Therefore the MSc in Finance
is perfect for students seeking a career in
nance in a global setting.
The ultimate ambition of the programme
is to prepare our students for making the
right decisions at the right time; this abil-
ity requires excellent analytical skills and
a talent for embracing all relevant data,
as well as cultural issues.
Finance and other advanced research
areas are based on statistical and
mathematical models. Therefore it is an
advantage for students to be familiar
with these areas before the programme
begins. The models are integrated into
the courses so that the students study the
models in relation to their application. It
is our experience that the learning out-
come is much higher when the models are
integrated into the various courses.
The latest research in nance is integrated
into the programme and many of the
professors are internationally well-known
teachers and researchers. Our programme
also uses external lecturers from local
nancial institutions as well as v isiting
faculty members from internationally
acclaimed universities.

In the rst semester you follow three
prerequisite courses that form the
methodological and academic basis for
the further study programme.
In Corporate Finance, the perspective
of an enterprise is applied to the course.
This means that the courses cover the
enterprises operational and strategic
decisions on investment and nancing,
e.g. the relationship between risk manage-
ment and hedging nancial risks, debt
and equity. The course also covers nan-
cial management issues, e.g. corporate
governance and international corporate
nance.
Asset Pricing focuses on theories and
methods for analysing equity and xed
income markets. The econometric meth-
ods necessary for applying and testing
classical models such as CAPM are stud-
ied. The shortcomings of these models
are discussed and more modern and
dynamic models are presented as alterna-
tives. The course also gives students an
introduction to various bond types, inter-
est rate denitions, credit risk in bond
markets and simple interest rate deriva-
tives.
Applied Econometric Methods introduces
you to the most widely used quantitative
and empirical methods in econometrics,
including in particular nancial econo-
metrics. The course has two majoraims. Firstly it provides you with some
tools which enable you to acquire the
knowledge published in high quality
Finance
I chose to study MSc in Finance at ASB since the study programme has a very
strong reputation both among former students and in the business community.
It is probably the most respectable nancial specialisation you can nd in Denmark.MSc in Finance is tough but the professors are among the best in their eld. I also
nd that the administrative services at ASB are of excellent standard no petty
ofcials here. Everything runs smoothly.

vides the tools for modelling and estimat-
ing econometric systems. The methods
involved have been chosen with a view
towards applications within empirical
nance and economics.
SPECIAlISAtIon CourSESThe second semester covers the speciali-
sation courses.
Management of Financial Institutions
focuses on the nancial system and the
role of the nancial institutions in the
capital market. It is the main aim of the
course to provide students with insight
into the management tasks that banks,
mortgage credit institutions and pension
funds, in particular, face.
Fixed Income and Derivative Securities
Financial derivatives such as forward, fu-
tures, swaps, and options are increasingly
important instruments applied by agents
of nancial markets. The course focuses
on describing and understanding these
instruments, and on the underlying
markets such as money markets, bond
markets, stock, currency, and commodity
markets.
Empirical FinanceFinancial economics is nowadays quite
often based on empirical investigation.
This course provides you with many dif-
ferent methods to analyse nancial data.
Among the many models are event stud-
ies, models to analyse the term structure
of interest rates as well as ARCH and
GARCH models.

semesters. The two rst semesters are
each divided into two blocks.
The rst semester creates the necessary
foundation both methodologically and
theoretically for further studies of nance

Applied Econometric Methods introduces
you to the most widely used quantitative
and empirical methods in econometrics,

ondly, it equips you with tools for modellingand estimating econometric systems. The
methods involved have been chosen with a

Corporate Finance deals with the nan-
cial problems of a company and various
solution models will be introduced. Fur-
ther issues are the interactions between
the company and the nancial markets,
with special emphasis on valuation of the
company in a capital market perspective.
International Business Methods covers
macro level (regional economic integra-
tion, e.g. the EU, trade barriers, etc.),
company level (internationalisation and
export market strategies, management
of subsidiary companies, etc.) and indi-
vidual level interaction between people of
different professional and cultural back-

Internationalisation of the Firm provides
you with an in-depth and detailed un-
derstanding of theories surrounding the
internationalisation of businesses and the
practical implications of these theories.
