What Saint name did you take for your Confirmation name? Come for a game of Saint Trivia! We will also have a prayer for all those who died that we would like to remember. Your ideas for moving forward will also be appreciated!

Parish Mission October 22 - 24, 2017 6:30 pm. - 8 p.m.

Fr. Phil Horrigan, DMin

Mission Theme: Our life of faith is a journey, and like all journeys there is a beginning and an end; and in-between there are many intersections, a few speed bumps, moments of renewal and pauses to find our way again. The spiritual journey is no different. From Baptism we set out to find our way, walking with the Lord through life as his disciples. As Jesus invited the first disciples who sought to know him, so you too are invited to meet the Lord again in our parish mission, “Come and see”. For more information, see the flyer in today’s bulletin. Information is also available on the parish website at www.ascensionofourlord.net

CCW Living Rosary YOU are needed to be a part of our LIVING ROSARY on Sunday, October 22 at 5:45 p.m. prior to the start of our Parish Mission. Our parish family will circle the pews, forming a human rosary as “beads”, each one announcing a country we pray for and leading a Hail Mary. Each decade of this World Mission Rosary is dedicated to a continent, and each bead is dedicated to a country on that continent. For more information see the insert in today’s bulletin or contact Maryann Neffke at 630-932-1995.

Recover AND Rebuild Better

Whether it is a single home that has burned down in a sudden fire or a whole community or country that has been devastated with massive destruction from a hurricane, tornado, floods or earthquake, the first call is to recover and then rebuild. But it is not simply to restore only the basics of life, but to provide necessary changes within that rebuilding that will prevent future like tragedies from once again wreaking the same damages. Right now the St. Vincent de Paul Society is raising funds and actively recruiting volunteers to work along side Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Services, many other governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to help rebuild the lives of residents and their physical communities in Texas, Florida, the Caribbean and Mexico. Experts say it will take perhaps as long as two years simply to restore the physical aspects of destroyed communities to a level they were prior to the weather and earthquake events they recently experienced. But is that enough? Should we not be trying to rebuild these devastated communities to the extent that in the future similar storms or fault lines will not cause the same destruction and loss of life as those just experienced? We must all work together to find and demand better solutions in our recovery efforts that will reduce or avoid similar future catastrophes. In Illinois, we have had tornados and floods devastate several communities not once, but twice within the last two years – each time requiring the same restorations but not eliminating or reducing like destruction in the future. So it is in our local SVDP Conference work with individuals and families in need. We can assist and restore their temporary loss of basic needs but often do not help them sufficiently to avoid or reduce that same need being repeatedly evident in their futures. We need your help to rebuild BETTER the lives and situations of people lacking the basics. Your resources continue to be very much needed. Above all we need your prayers that we may rebuild lives and conditions better than ever. Our next parish SVDP Conference Meeting will be held in the parish office on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 4:00 PM at which time we will devote our entire meeting to finalize plans and the needed resources to celebrate the dedicated service of our Military Veterans and their families. Please attend this important meeting and bring both your ideas and as many resources you can muster to make the November 4 celebration a feast of gratitude for the service they have given to our nation and its people.
