Assam Chief Minister Visits RFRI, Jorhat 2021 ASSAM CHIEF MINISTER VISITS RFRI, JORHAT Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat on 19 th August, 2021. Dr. R. S. C. Jayaraj, Director of the Institute welcomed him with traditional Gamosa and Cheleng chadar. Along with the Chief Minister, three Cabinet Ministers, Dr. Ranuj Pegu, Shri Atul Bora and Shri Jogen Mohan; two Members of Parliament, Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Shri Tapan Gogoi; four Members of Legislative Assembly, Shri Hitendra Nath Goswami, Smt. Renupoma Rajkhowa, Shri Bhaben Bharali and Shri Pradip Hazarika apart from Deputy Commissioner, DIG, Eastern Range and Superintendent of Police, Jorhat also visited the Institute. Dr. Jayaraj made a detailed presentation on various activities of the Institute. He put much emphasis on two flagship areas of research and extension of the Institute i.e., Bamboo and Agar. In his presentation, he detailed about the amount of service rendered by RFRI to the state of Assam in particular and other states in general. Hon’ble Chief Minister heard the presentation and expressed that state government will work closely with RFRI on long-term basis. Chief Minister released a book on ‘Operational Manual for Bamboo Germplasm Collection in Northeast India’ and a special product of RFRI namely ‘Sasi Inoculant’ which would be used for artificial fungal culture in agarwood plants. Chief Minister was presented with ‘Bamboo Sorai’ and ‘Bamboo Rong-ghor’ made by artisans of the Institute. Senior Scientist of the Institute, Shri R. K. Kalita conducted the entire programme of visit of Hon’ble Chief Minister.
