Athena Casting

 After the tutorial with Alan, I was given the idea to cast for the role Athena. In essence by 

choosing an actress I can then use her attributes to affect my development of the Athena

character.

Katrina Law 

As less well known actress, Katrina Law seems a

great persona for the goddess Athena. As an actress

she plays many roles in television series as powerful

leader as well as being a strong woman in the face

of danger. Her biggest role has been in Spartacus:

Vengeance, were she plays the role of Mira 

(Spartacus’ lover).

In the role Katrina plays Mira as a woman of two

sides. She displays a prowess in a role as a rebel

leader but also as warrior when called upon. On the

other hand when stepping away from public eyes

she shows a more feminine side.

Katrina has also played in another TV series -TheResistance, Lana; the leader of the ARM

(Aurordecan Resistance Movement). In this role she

acts out Lana as a terrorist leader who show great

strategy when planning mission and keeping her

terrorist cell from discovery. Once again, showing a prowess in battle, especially when trying

to outwit Syrus Primoris and his army.

Whilst looking towards Katrina laws appearance it easy to see her as the roles above as she

displays all the attributes of a beautiful elegant women whilst having harsh feature such as

the cheek bone and the nose. This easily implies Katrina as strong women, who doesn’t get

taken for granted.

Olivia Wilde

Olivia, is newcomer to international stardom due

appearances in House, Cowboys vs. Aliens, Tron and In

Time. Most of which she shows herself as strong lady

who can hold her own against an enemy. Olivia inmany of these features plays the support actress to

the main protagonist. In result she is depicted as

either a powerful ally who is equal in ability to the

protagonist or has more knowledge that helps guide

the main protagonist.

Interestingly her roles prior to her stardom where in

smaller more dramatic roles such as Alex Kelly in The

O.C. and Jewel Goldman in Skin (which is a take on

Romeo and Juliet.) showing her to be versatile whenacting different roles.

Olivia Wilde in appearance has a mixture of soft and hard features which gives very versatile

idea of her. Such as her acting roles since she began. The harsh toned cheek bones and nose

implying a woman who’s a mentally strong and robust. Whilst the soft feature such as the

eyes and mouth give off a more feminine stereotype of vulnerability and soft beauty -

angelic in some cases.

Gemma Arterton 

Gemma is surprisingly new to the acting game, in theterms of noticeable roles. First of which was in the St.

Trinian’s playing the leader of rebellious teenager girls.

Moreover it was her role in Quantum of Solace which

really showed her potential and displayed her as an

elegant woman rather a devious teenager. Moreover her

role in Clash of The Titans showed her in a more mature

role also depicting her as the immortal Lo from Greek

mythology. With her rile she displayed a maturity vast

beyond her actual age and gave the character a more

strong and serious disposition then implied have beenguess from her appearance. In essence Gemma shows

herself as a natural beauty which strays away from the stereotype of beautiful angelic

women who can’t stand up for herself in physical battle.

As said before her appearance is softer than the others but her acting capabilities easily

mask this. Instead we gaze upon a godlier like appearance but with a resilient tone when

under pressure or endanger. Nevertheless she seems to have a nice balance of authority

and beauty which makes her a good candidate for the role of Athena.

The actresses who have played the role of Athena have been able to show their sparse but a

few more recent films have showed a correlation between the actors and their appearance.The actors are:

These females suggest I am on the right track, as the women are similar in appearance with harshlydefined feature with a mixture of soft feature also. With this it easy to see that they display a sense

of prowess in leadership whilst still maintain the beauty of a female.
