Engines

PetrolFSIdirect-injectiontechnologyis aunique Audiinnovation

thatwas originallydevelopedfor theLe Mans24-hour

enduranceracetodelivermorepowerandtorque,aswellas

enhancedfueleciency. Preciselytheright amountof fuel

andair areinjectedinto thecombustionchambers,enabling

theengine tobreathemore easily.It resultsin reducedheat

lossand increasedoutput,with arounda 15%reductionin

fuelconsumptionand significantlylowerexhaustemissions.

Wevealsodeveloped TFSI,withturbocharging givingcars

anextra injectionof power.

DieselWeintroduced TDIto theroads in 1989,and since

then,weve continuously refined it,including developing

common-rail technology.Underthis system,a seriesof piezo

injectorsuseselectricalcharge topreciselycontrol theamount

offuelinjectedintotheengine.Aswellas reducingnoise,this

allowscombustiontohappen ata lowertemperature,with

lessoxygen,which lowersemissions.
