Intro

For this research I have used the media packs of Kerrang and Metal Hammer as they have the same target audience as I do which is people who listen to metal music and using these resources I will look in greater depth at who the average reader of these magazines are

Typical reader

• The typical reader of Kerrang and Metal Hammer is A 22 year old male who plays an instrument (majority play guitar)or is in a band who lives every moment doing something to do to music such as watching music on TV, listening to music or playing their instrument and is heavily involved in the music industry by buying several albums a month on average and attending a lot of gigs per year is proud of who they are, what they wear and how it conveys their taste in music. They also rely on the magazines as a place they obtain knowledge and are usually the first places they find out about the latest rock/metal news.

What I can do with this information

• This information shows me that in my magazine I should aim to

• Keep the reader as updated as possible by including up to date information about gigs, festivals and albums

• Advertise to their needs e.g. info about instruments such as new models and which guitar certain guitarists use and articles on how to get signed and start a career in the music industry. Also advertise certain brands such as drop dead and criminal damage

• Inform them of programmes on music channels such as Kerrang and Scuzz
