Questionnaire results In my questionnaire, I used a mixture of qualitative and quantitative questions in order to collect a wide range of information on my target audience. QuantitativeQ2: Which of the following magazines would you be most likely to buy?

These results show how the different genders prefer different styles of magazine. The most popular choice made by females was Billboard, followed by Vibe and NME. None of the females chose Kerrang!, Q or Classic Rock, possibly

because they didn’t know what they were. The main choice from male respondents was ‘other’. This suggests that men maybe aren’t as interested in music magazines as females are, so I will take this into account and open my

magazine to both genres, but not focus too much on just males. From the over all results, I have learned that many people chose ‘other’ rather than choosing an actual magazine. This suggests that many people aged 16-18

are not interested in music magazines, so I will make mine appeal specifically to that age group to hopefully change their opinion. No-one chose Classic Rock, so

I will ensure my rock music magazine moves away from the classic artists and focuses more on more modern bands.

QuantitativeQ3: How much would you be willing to spend on a music magazine?

The results from different genders shows that males are most willing to pay any price than any other choice. This suggests that although they didn’t

choose one magazine in particular, they would still pay for a magazine they were interested in. On the other hand, the female respondents did not pick

any price at all. They mainly chose the £1 - £1.99 category as this is a reasonable price for any magazine. As females are more likely to buy general magazines than men are, they would have a better idea of what they think is

an acceptable price to pay. The over-all results showed that the most popular category was the £1 - £1.99 price range, therefore I will price my

magazine within this category as I believe it to be a reasonable price and it will help appeal to my target audience. Only one person chose the £0 - £0.99

category, suggesting they mainly think this is too much to pay, despite four people saying they would pay any price. Therefore, if I were to price it within this category, not many people of this age group (my target audience) would

buy it.

QualitativeQ4: What genre of music would you say you listen to the most?

For the questions that provided qualitative data, I have created a way of turning this information into quantitative data so I can put it into graphs and the information can be seen more clearly.

QualitativeQ4: What genre of music would you say you listen to the most?

The results from the different genders shows me that the most common genres for females was pop and alternative rock, and these two had the same number of votes. The most common from male respondents was

alternative rock and rock, suggesting that males may be more interested in buying my magazine than females. I will use this information to make my

magazine by ensuring the magazine appeals to females and not just males, as they may not be encouraged to buy it if I do not specifically appeal to

them. The over-all results from both genders shows that out of all the genres people said, the most common over-all was alternative rock. This will allow me to focus my magazine on alternative rock above any other

sub-genre of rock as this will appeal to my target audience the best. None of the respondents said they listened to heavy metal rock or any other sub-genre, so I will try not to go too much into the others and remain focused

on alternative rock.

QualitativeQ6: What kind of artists/bands would you like to read about in a music magazine?

I included this question in my magazine to get an idea of who to feature articles about on my magazine cover. The results

showed that the most common answer was upcoming artists. This suggests that this is an area that other music magazines

are not including. Therefore I will focus my magazine on being about new talent as well as having stories about

already big artists. This will allow me to meet the desire of my target audience so they will want to buy my magazine.

This also allows me to know what kind of content to put in as I can include interviews with new bands and picture and

reviews of their latest gigs.

QualitativeQ7: What sort of content would you like to find in a music magazine?

From the results by different genders I can see that females are most interested in the gossip, stories and general information of bands/artists that they like, suggesting they would mostly buy a magazine for this form of entertainment. They would also like to hear about the latest new band, or new songs/albums released by existing artists. On the other hand, males are not as interested in hearing about the latest

stories. They were most interested in tour dates, so I will ensure my magazine contains this content to make sure I appeal to males. Males were also not at all

interested in interviews or reviews, compared to females who said they would like to see this. This suggests that females would like to hear about how a festival or gig

went before thinking about going themselves, whereas males would be more likely to just go. The over-all results showed that the most popular was the stories and gossip, so I will feature some of this on my magazine cover. The respondents also wanted to see lots of pictures, possibly from concerts or festivals, or just general photo-shoots. This suggests that my target audience, aged 16-18, are more visual and would prefer to see pictures of key events than read long articles. I will take this into account when creating my double-page spread and I will try to break down the writing as much as

possible so it is easier to read and appeals to my target audience.
