Editors Letter…. I hope you are all enjoying the

sunshine. I thought things might quieten down slightly

after England exited the World Cup,

however this months magazine is a bumper

issue full of news, events and new

businesses advertising their products or

services. Please remember to mention that

you saw their advert in the arrow

magazine.

Congratulations to Mr Littler who has been

a local dentist for 25 years now. You can

read all about his time in Hatfield on page

6.

Congratulations also to Joan Brebner on

being nominated to receive this months

„Flowers for Someone Special‟. You can

read why she was nominated on page 4. Please keep sending in your local news.

You can ring me, email, text or write. My

THE HATFIELD OPEN GARDENS 2010 was a great success. I would like to thank

everyone who opened their Gardens (there

were 18 gardens open), everyone who helped in

any way and everyone who came.

We raised a fantastic £3000 for the Yorkshire Cancer Research Charity.

Thank you! Lynn Hoff, Hatfield.

I WOULD LIKE TO NOMINATE

JOAN BREBNER OF HATFIELD, TO

RECEIVE THIS MONTHS

‘FLOWERS FOR SOMEONE

SPECIAL’. She's kind, thoughtful, helpful, a

gem of a neighbour and a great friend.

When I had my leg in plaster she and her

husband picked me up from home and took me

out for lunch and when they saw my

predicament in the kitchen (trying to stand at

the sink and wash up, etc) they brought me a

folding/perching chair to lean on which made

things much easier. She brought me a beautiful

flower arrangement when I moved house 8

years ago and is forever offering to help if

needed. She trolls around the village picking up

litter and keeping things tidy and it's always

open house where you can call in for a cuppa

and a chat or if it's nice, sit outside with a glass

of wine, their door is always open and she has

offered her house to the committee to hold our

meetings in when the Barn is occupied.

She's worked hard on the Friends Committee

for over 12 years also, helping at Coffee

Mornings/Book Sales/Open Gardens and

organised Murder Mystery Nights at Victoria

Hall and she delivers posters and Newsletters

by hand all around the village.

Joan doesn't like a fuss and doesn't do anything

for recognition or reward.

Thank you. Tina, Hatfield

CONGRATULATIONS to Mr

Williamson from Dunsville on winning the All

Car Service and Repair Centre competition in

the July issue. Mr Williamson wins a free MOT

Celebrating 25 Years! The Colin Littler dental Surgery opened on 5th August 1985.

Colin qualified at Leeds University in 1977, he started his

professional career in Garforth and Rothwell, then came over to

Hatfield.

Many of his patients from the west Yorkshire area and from

further afield followed. Having gone from a handful of patients

then, to having approximately 4000 now.

Colin Littler is a remarkable man. Not only is he an excellent

dentist, he is a man of many talents. One of his favourite quotes is

„ We like to take dentistry seriously,….life not so seriously!

He joined the local gym at Thorne, he has been on several skiing

holidays, he still enjoys scuba diving and likes to spend many a

weekend travelling throughout the UK and other countries.

His latest passion is his horse. He enjoys riding and competing in dressage, show jumping and cross

country. He has numerous awards showing his dedication and commitment.

Colin, above all is a fantastic boss and local dentist. We have

many lovely patients at the surgery as well as one or two very

colourful characters, without whom the surgery would not be

the place it is today. We have a very friendly and relaxed

atmosphere with lots of lovely patients who visit sometimes just

for a natter, a cuppa, or to share their news.

I joined the surgery in 1985 along with Colin, Angie started in

1990 and Vron in 1994. The amount of time we have spent

working together reflects just how great a boss Colin is.

Congratulations Colin and here’s to another 25!

Beth, Vron and Angie.

Going to the dentist can be a treat, even if it causes my less than attractive response when

instruments (especially that disgusting suction machine) even approach my mouth. Certainly that is

the case if you are a patient at Colin Littler‟s practice in Hatfield.

It starts in reception when you are greeted in such a friendly way by Beth who remembers the little

details which make you feel valued and carries through to the skilled, problem solving approach of

Colin.

Since Beth started work for Colin 25 years ago the team has grown to include Angie and Veronica

who quickly followed Beth‟s lead in making patients feel welcome.

Thanks to them all from a grateful patient. We all hope the practice continues to care for Hatfield

patients.

NORTH EAST DONCASTER CITIZENS

ADVICE BUREAU Advice Column

I have seen adverts for companies who say they offer free benefits advice and who say they can help you claim backdated benefits on a ‘No win no fee’

basis. How do they work and are they a good idea?

With more than £16 billion in means-tested benefits and tax credits currently going unclaimed every

year it is definitely worth checking you are receiving everything you are entitled to.

You can get a free, independent benefits check from your local CAB. However there are companies

you can pay for the same service.

They often describe themselves as offering „free‟ benefits advice, but if they help you claim back any

backdated benefits they will take up to a hefty 45 per cent out of any backpay that would have

otherwise gone straight to you. So if you are thinking about approaching one of these companies

make sure you read the small print. Depending on the amount of backpay you receive this could be

as much as £1,500.

What they are doing isn‟t illegal, but the service they are offering is available for free from

independent advice sources such as your local CAB where you can get a free benefits check to make

sure you are receiving everything you are entitled to. And that all of any backdated money goes in

your pocket.

If you are unsure about what benefits you are entitled to or whether a company is going to charge

you a fee or a percentage of any money you get back, you can contact your local CAB for a free

benefits check or go to http://www.adviceguide.org.uk

If you require any advice/assistance from our Thorne or Stainforth offices, concerning

the above or any other issue, please contact our Assessment Team at North East

Doncaster Citizens Advice Bureau on 0844 499 4137 Mon-Fri between 10:00 & 2:00. Or

email: [email protected]

Contact details and opening times are also available on our website at:

www.northeastdoncastercab.org.uk

If you have a Welfare Benefits enquiry/problem, we now also operate an appointments-

only session at The Winning Post, Moorends every Tuesday. To make an appointment

please ring 01405 740641. We currently have a new self-help information kiosk at our

Thorne bureau that can be used by anyone during opening hours.

WHY VACCINATE?

Half the dogs in Britain and an even

greater number of cats are currently

more than 4 years behind with their

vacc inat ions! Unless proper ly

immunised your pet is in danger of

contracting several possibly fatal

infectious diseases.

DOGS Unvaccinated dogs that are walked

where other dogs have been are at risk

from Parvovirus and Leptospirosis,

these most current and widespread

canine infections can be caught via

contact with faeces and urine

respectively. If transmitted to humans

Leptospirosis (Weills Disease) can

cause serious liver and kidney

problems.

CATS Unvaccinated cats that go outdoors or

come into close contact with other

cats are susceptible to contracting

deadly infections such as Feline

Enteritis, Feline Leukaemia and „Cat

Flu‟ any of which could prove fatal.

Vaccination is the only way of

protecting your pet against

these serious diseases. Evolution Animal Care is urging pet

owners to take advantage of their

vaccination amnesty and ensure their

pets wellbeing at minimal cost.

‘Gordon our Garden Gnome’.

It is a privilege and pleasure to write this

entry about someone who has become

an invaluable member of our team at

Hatfield Travis School- Mr Gordon

Harper. Gordon started helping out with

our garden nearly two years ago when I

asked for a little bit of advice and since

then has become a welcome, almost

permanent resident!

As a school we have always valued the

outdoors for the experience and

confidence it can provide for our

children; so, two years ago, we knew

that we wanted to develop our „wild

area‟ into a sensory garden with a

habitat area for „wildlife‟ and vegetable

planters. However, anyone working in school knows how difficult it is to find the time to turn ideas

into reality and we were so blessed when Gordon and his team offered their help and support.

The team has included other grandparents from the school as well as Gordon‟s own father, who

always finds time to talk to the children.

Gordon has shown such dedication and commitment to implementing our ideas and often appears

with new experiences of his own to stimulate the children‟s learning. He has helped out with our

„Get your Grown up Gardening Day‟, Gardening Club and also working with groups in lessons. The

children love to see him out in the garden and frequently ask if they can help during playtime.

Words can‟t express how grateful we are for all his help (however, could I just mention that I‟ve had

a couple more ideas for next year!) I hope that writing this has not „gotten me into trouble again!‟

Thank you, Gordon –you are a star.

Mrs P Cousins and all at Hatfield Travis.

Travis children have ‘fun with phonics’.

Our reporters for this month have been chosen from a specific group- our direct phonic groups. In

September, Travis set up a phonic group to support children in developing their writing and reading.

Led by Mrs Bowater, this has been a huge success as all the participants have enjoyed it and grown

in confidence and self-belief; so much so, that they wanted to share their feelings on the course, as a

celebration of their achievements.

I like doing letters. I like direct phonics. Sometimes we play word games, like bingo. We get certificates at the

end of the block. We get gel pens.- Alivia.

In direct phonics we have a puppet. Ours is a squirrel and it

is called Sam. Direct Phonics is good because it helps us to

form our letters correctly. In direct phonics I like it when we

work in a team. –Anya.

We have fun at learning new letters. Our teacher’s name is

Mrs Bowater. When I grow up, I want to do a group. We go

there everyday. –Joshua.

I like assessment day. I love doing the writing. I love coming

to direct phonics. Sometimes we play word games. I like the

gel pens.- Alex.

I like it in Direct Phonics because it is fun. I love doing games

with Mrs Bowater. I love doing games at Squirrel group.-

Ryan.

It has been a pleasure to observe the way the children have worked, both individually and as a team,

and we wish the present Year 2 groups every success in their future adventures. Mrs P Cousins.

‘ALLO ‘ALLO

I went to see a performance of „Allo „Allo, the stage play based upon

the TV series of the same name, presented by the Phoenix Players of

Hatfield Woodhouse.

As I looked at the programme it became apparent that they were about

to attempt a show with some sixteen scene changes and without a

rotund or additional curtain cloths.

So I settled down to watch the chaos,……..I was in for a surprise.

Just like the bumble bee who, according to all the laws of aerodynamics,

can‟t possibly fly - they went ahead and did it and my first accolade has

to go to the Stage Manager and crew who changed all the scenes with

the minimum of fuss and disruption.

But what about the show? Well it was hilarious, held together by „Rene‟

(Andy Kemp) from the beginning to end…….he did a superb job. The

Airmen never did get to England.

It is not possible to applaud and mention the whole cast but they were

outstanding from the coquettish wriggling of „Yvette‟ (Tracy Conlon)

and the deliciously menacing „Mimi‟ (Kath Weeks) to the brilliant off

key singing (its difficult to do it deliberately) of Madam Edith (Linda

Margereson). „Leclerc‟s‟ antics (Rob Jeffrey) were

applauded and „I shall say this only once‟ „Michelle‟

(Helen Bluck) as the resistance „Houdini‟ was really

in character with a great French accent.

It was a warm night but the temperature went up a

further 10 degrees when Helga (Claire Jennings)

stripped down to a Swastika decorated Basque. Similarly she caused a great deal of male audience squirming in the cinema scene where her five foot super

model legs were being used to extract information from Captain Bertorelli

(Mark Goulden). (This lass is a bit more than a beautiful singer).

Incidentally Bertorelli‟s facial expressions in this scene were

an outstanding piece of acting.

Herr Flick (John Stavely) came across as a competent

Gestapo officer as did Colonel Von Strohm (Neil Scanlon).

Constable Crabtree (Derek Conlon) and his amazing

French was a delight to hear.

The real hilarity for the audience, however, came from the

(XXX) rated sausage scene. It was a pearl of comedy with

„Rene‟ and the limp wristed „Gruber‟ (Bob Dennis)

excelling.

Everyone in the show can be proud of their efforts.

General Von Schmelling (Ian Weeks) the Long John Silver

of the German Army was in full rant at the front of the

stage (By the way never mike this one up, he‟ll blow every

speaker in the house).

In all it was an outstanding portrayal of a much loved TV

show. If you missed a treat, perhaps you could persuade them to put it on again sometime in the future. It could

easily fill that hall for a week.

My final accolade has to go to the producer (Sue Lane) who had an immense and difficult

job…..Well Done!

DG.

Responsible Drinking Every so often the papers splash bold headlines spurting outrage at the binge drinking culture

afflicting the nation and the escalating problems it leads to for the NHS, emergency services and

industry in general. Naturally, this got me thinking, as I for one am acutely aware of when its time to

go home. It‟s pretty simple in my eyes. I‟ve reached my limit about the time I start believing I am

attractive to members of the opposite sex and when I think I can bust moves that would make

Michael Jackson blush.

In the days before supermarket shelves buckled under the weight of the latest boozy promotions,

most blokes were taught the art of responsible drinking from their mates and peers in pubs up and

down the country. Coming from parents who never really had the money nor the inclination to

drink, I had to learn the art of boozing from my brothers. This, I am afraid to say, had its own risks

attached and taught me at a tender age just when it was time to cash in your chips and go home -

something that would come in very handy as I was to attend a university with one of the cheapest

student unions in the country.

My elder brother Andy had some great mates; Daz Batty, Anto Jackson, Trev Cousins and Andy

Crawford to name just a few. Well they soon discovered that our Andy had a talent for drinking

beer – and drinking it very quickly! He could neck a pint of beer in less than three seconds if the

wind was blowing in the right direction and it was something that the rest of the group cottoned

onto sharpish, realising they could make themselves a bob or two in the process. And so every

Friday night, Andy and his mates would set off to town where a strategic drinking challenge would

be mooted. Andy would go head-to-head with any willing challenger who would quickly part with his

hard-earned cash to Andy‟s pals, who would reward their champion with his cut of the winnings in

the shape of another drink!

The only problem for Andy with this cunning plan was that he would eventually need packing off on

the bus home with his night in tatters at just 8.30pm. This, however, was not where the risk of his

drinking would reach a head even if Andy had become increasingly fed up with waking up at

Moorends Hotel terminus with only a lonely bus driver for company. The straw that broke the

camel‟s back happened after one marathon competition in the market place against a brute of a

drinker called “Wide Mike”. Mum and dad had to persuade him to call it a day when Andrew‟s

drinking prowess saw him wee on the cat which was sleeping unassumingly behind the boiler.

Needless to say he eventually wisened up and got a grip of himself, ending a profitable Friday night

out for his pals, but with the determination of a man who wanted to find out for himself what town looked like after 9pm. He is now one of the best blokes to keep you company while you have a few

pints, we were all young once after all!

The picture I have included is probably one

of my favourites and comes courtesy of

Glen Hodget, who himself is pictured. This

to me epitomises what good friendships and

good laughs can be had by a group of mates

enjoying a day of responsible drinking.

Taken around the late 1980s, it shows the

winning Ingram Arms six-a-side cricket

team in training for their next match. There

will be some people on this picture who

you may recognise and some of which no

longer wear nappies (unless in private).

There are a couple of mysteries I would like

readers to try and solve in relation to the

attached picture: 1) Who is the man with

the hat whose face is hidden? 2) Who is the baby in the nappy? Any help would be greatly

The Bay Horse are rumoured to be in pre-season training and I have it on good authority that Nick

Holt has got his squad doing shuttle runs to and from the sausage roll counter at Tesco Metro. My

spies tell me he has also insisted his troops incorporate a special diet involving lots of fluid, carbs and

is low in saturated fats. The Bay Horse, meanwhile, are apparently sponsored by Abrakebabra,

purveyors of fine quality takeaways.

And as for responsible drinking, well as my mate once said, you only know when you have a drink

problem when you poo the bed and push it to the bottom with your foot. Wise words.

Remember: Inter Pub six-a-side knockout, Bank Holiday Monday at HTCC Cricket Ground. Bring

More importantly, here are the latest odds, hot off the presses, in relation to the inter pub knockout

which, if the weather holds out, could be well worth a visit.

Hatfield Visual Arts College News In June some of our Year 8 students worked with the Graffiti artist

Casper Carr participating in a spray paint project at Jubilee recreational

ground, their brief was to design artwork for the skate park.

We have also been working closely with our feeder school providing

Artists to deliver creative workshops.

Terry Chipp (Local Artist) has delivered a Treasure Chest Workshop to

Travis Primary School, a Self Portrait workshop to Year 2 students at

Longtoft Primary School a Sealife workshop to Crookesbroom School

and a modrock creatures workshop to Woodhouse School.

Susan Forbe (Textiles Artist) has

delivered an Evacuee Workshop

to Crookesbroom Primary School,

a recycling project, rag rugging to

Year3 students at Woodhouse

School and a Felt Maps project to Long Toft School.

Year 2 Travis students came for a ceramic taster session, they

created tiles using imprinting and applied techniques. The tiles

were fired and delivered back to the school for the students to decorate.

We have also provided a Sun print workshop for the young

parents at the Croft (Hatfield Children‟s Centre) this took

place at the beginning of term. We will be running workshops

throughout the summer holidays and we are planning to work

with Stainforth Children‟s Centre in September.

In May Our BTEC students worked with the Artist, Anna

Roebuck, she works mainly with plastic fusing carrier

bags together using heat, she then creates panels and

sculptural forms out of them. The students fully enjoyed the

workshop and learnt some new techniques.

Also in May our A level Photography group participated in a 4 day intensive workshop, working alongside a professional

photographer. They learnt new techniques in the darkroom

and produced some good images to coincide with the religious

architecture project.

Early this term, a guest artist Mandy Keating delivered a

bookbinding workshop for us to the community from Hatfield

Library the workshop was well attended and we plan to

repeat the workshop at Stainforth Library.

We recently hosted a 6 day DT training session for primary

school teacher and Rob Bulmer and Sally Powell, which was

completed this term, this was well attended and the teachers

learnt a lot of practical skills as well as project ideas for their students. The course will be repeated

in Jan 2011.

Our school participated in a 4 day Art Project with Hungerhill, Mexborough and Don Valley school.

Some of our Year 8 Gifted and Talented students completed a felt making project with a

professional Artist, the work will be displayed within the college.

Visual Arts Community, have successfully raised over £150 for collage funds with artists sales and

Art and craft stalls, we will continue to have a range of artists display their work in the Auditorium

and Office gallery areas.

Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School News!

Hello. We would like you to meet Frankie, Christie, Ben and

Tommy who are your new 2010-2011 correspondents from

Hatfield Woodhouse School. We have worked with them on

this month‟s article and we look forward to reading their

future reports of an eventful year, sharing all the news from

our school in 2010-2011.

KS1 Sports day

KS1 Sports Day took place on a beautiful sunny day. This

event consisted of a range off different activities including egg

and spoon races and obstacle races. It was exiting for all of

KS1, as it was the first time they competed in three different

houses, Johnson, Warwick and Blake. They all tried their very

best and had great fun but Johnson claimed the overall victory

with the most points.

KS2 Sports day

The weather was again hot and sunny for KS2 Sports Day, although the name is somewhat

misleading because this actually took place on two different afternoons for the field and track events.

All of the events were sponsored by different companies.

The 600g shot was sponsored by THE HAIR SHOP and

the 2.72kg shot was sponsored by ATTEYS SOLICTORS .The javelin and the standing long jump were

sponsored by PETER FOWLER (ELECTRICAL) LTD, and

the discus was sponsored by FREE HEAT LTD.

The track events were very enjoyable and it was lovely

that our friends from Coppice School were able to join in

with us and take part in some of the races. The events of

the day included the new event 80m hurdles which

Coppice School very kindly sponsored. Other companies

also were very kind to sponsor the events and we would

like to thank them. These companies were PETER

FOWLER (ELECTRICAL) Ltd. McGill‟s PHARMACY, J.G JET WASH, CHERRY TREE FARM,

HATFIELD TILING, ASSOCIATED SIGNS AND GRAPHIC DESIGNS, THE HAIR SHOP, ATTEY‟S

SOLICITORS, and the HATFIELD ARROW.

Sustainability week

In June all of the classes worked on lessons about Sustainability and the environment and presented

their learning in front of the whole school. Sustainability is all about looking after the environment,

like when you cut down a tree plant another one and turn off the lights when you leave a room. As

part of our helping the environment theme, the entire school collected bottle tops so that a parent

in FS2 could melt down the plastic to recycle it into something else. We can‟t wait to see what is

made by DTIndustries and also watch the video the company are sending to show us how our

plastic is recycled.

Dad’s Picnic

The Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children and their dads, granddads, uncles and visitors had a

wonderful time on the 8th of July 2010 when they had a very fun picnic on the school grounds. After

eating they played lots of activities such as rugby, football and games on the parachute. Everyone had

a really brilliant time and the event was a complete success. It ended with the dads competing in a

football match where the yellow team won 1-0!!!

KS1 show

This year the KS1 show was based on a seaside theme. There were songs, dancing and wonderful

Page 37: August 10, Issue 56, The Hatfield Arrow

poems. Everyone was dressed in clothes that they

wear on holiday to the seaside. There were

brilliant songs and the children‟s favourite song

was called „We‟re all going on a Summer Holiday‟.

The children enjoyed performing to the audience.

KS2 Show

The KS2 concert was based on Roald Dalh‟s

„Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf‟. Do you

remember the traditional story about a little girl

who takes a walk in the wood and is tempted by a

hungry wolf ? Our wonderful story had a twist

with the three little pigs taking a key role and

Little Red Riding Hood not as sweet as is first

assumed! Everyone who took part enjoyed it so

much and so did the audience!

Geo-caching

Geo-caching is a world wide game of hide and

seeking treasure using a GPS. Year 5 went to

Hatfield Moors to trial playing the Geo-caching

Game with representatives from Natural England. They split into groups to find the treasure and had

a wonderful time. It was a new and different

experience which the class felt was a great

success.

Enjoy your summer!

A final Good-bye from Charlotte and John!

Christie Charnley, Francesca Middleton, Tomasz Gravil and Ben Morrell will be back for the

October edition, whilst Mrs Acton will write the September report.

Taking your Test

Dear Readers continued,

Mr Bean was the first person to pass the driving test in 1935… fact! But it‟s not that Mr Bean, it was Mr J Beene who paid a grand total of 37p (7d / 6p in old money) to take the test. there were no test

centres in 1935 so you had to arrange to meet the examiner somewhere like a post office, train

station or town hall. the test was suspended for the duration of World War Two and didn‟t resume

until 1 November 1946.

In 1975, candidates no longer had to demonstrate hand signals The theory test was introduced in

1996, replacing questions about the Highway Code, during the practical test candidates could book

their theory test online for the first time in December 2001 the pass rate in 1935 was 63 per cent

compared to 46 per cent in 2009.

1969 saw the first driving test set for an automatic vehicle since 1935 more than 46 million tests

have been taken

In 1935, when Leslie Hore-Belisha, became the new Transport Minister, he introduced the driving

test – first in March as a voluntary test and then it became compulsory in June. During the 1930s

safety glass was made compulsory for windscreens after terrible injuries had been caused by

accidents in cars with ordinary glass. Seat belts did not appear until the 1950s but were not made

compulsory in front seats until 1983.

in September 2003. Arm signals out of the window were withdrawn from the test in 1975 and more

modern additions to the test have included a theory test in 1996, the hazard perception section of

the theory test in 2002 and questions about vehicle safety and maintenance

Changes to the test and other safety initiatives, such as improvements to vehicles, have resulted in a

reduction in road deaths in Great Britain, which now has some of the best road safety records in

the world. In 2008 there were 34 million cars on the road and 2,538 people were killed in road

accidents

When announcing the introduction of the driving test, Leslie Hore-Belisha said, “Driving is an art in

which those who are engaged should, in the

interest of their own and of the public‟s safety;

take the greatest pains to make themselves

proficient.”

Rescue Day 2010, was without doubt and outstanding success. Attendance figures surpassed all

expectation, we believe they exceeded 15,000. Feed back we have received to date from all concerned has

been extremely positive, both exhibitors and

members of the public have stated that they

had a most informative and enjoyable day.

The main objectives for the day was to raise

safety awareness to members of the public by

providing displays such as Water Rescue

demonstrations and Road Traffic Collision

exercises, along with raising funds for Help for

Heroes and other charities such Lindsey Lodge,

LIVES, and the British Heart Foundation.

Our objectives were met in full throughout the day with both arenas providing informative and

demonstrative displays, additionally Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue

Services along with Humberside Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service, Sheffield Hallam University and

other organisations such as the British Heart Foundation, LIVES, Coast Guard, Doncaster Sub Aqua Club

all provided displays, information and talks to the public which all

contributed immensely to the days success. Donations are still

being counted with more money yet to be accrued (Auction

Items) which will be auctioned on the evening of the Raft race

(24th July 2010) and the Pink Ball (7th August 2010) as such an

exact figure will be promulgated shortly after August the 7th 2010.

The extreme challenge (Cross Country run) which took place on

the morning of Rescue Day which provided 128 entrants with

mud, water, bog obstacles and more mud proved very challenging,

however, indications are that the event was very different though

really enjoyable and delivered a real sense of achievement by all

who took part. The invaluable assistance from Dave Tune (Metres

to Miles) cannot be understated and all who helped, which was very much appreciated.

The Aerial displays provided by 202 Squadron, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire) along with

the Police and Lincolnshire Air Ambulance Helicopters were absolutely superb and once again feed back

has been excellent on all counts.

The Red Devils conducted an outstanding Parachute display culminating into a water drop and rescue by

Humber Rescue, Doncaster and Thorne Sub Aqua clubs ably assisted by the 7 Lakes rescue team on Jet

Skis. The Red Devils then met with the public signing autographs and providing photo opportunities

All organisations and personnel taking part should be extremely proud of their contribution and on behalf

of the Rescue Day Committee and for the record I would like to express my thanks to them.

It would be remiss of me not to mention all those volunteer and youth organisations who also contributed

significantly to the events overall success such as FODSA, the Army and Navy cadets, Lost and Lonely

Scooters along with the Staff at 7 Lakes Country Park all of which I am very grateful to, as such I would

like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation and thanks.

It is recognised that the hard work applied by the Rescue Day committee to

the planning and delivery of the event was by and large outside their Day Job

and again I am very grateful to all for their dedication in their application to

Rescue Day along with their contribution in making it a resounding success.

Whilst I would not want to single out anyone in particular several members

of the committee most certainly went beyond the call of duty and some,

they know who they are and for that and to them I am internally grateful.

Finally I would like to take the opportunity via your publication to pass on

sincere thanks to local residents and all those attending from the public for

coming to Rescue Day for their understanding regarding additional traffic

build up and your cooperation and in making the event a fantastic and

enjoyable day. Sincerely Yours

John Armson, On behalf of the Rescue Day Committee
