This will be my 1st year since mov-ing here that I havent got a child in the system of schooling. I remember the days too well, waiting at our road for the Bus Stop. We had Ms. Mylene Chancey, what a nice Lady for the position. Its not an easy feeling placing your kids on a Bus as they go around the county, just to get to school. But when you trust in your Bus driver, it helps ease the stress, when they may run late coming home for there may have been an accident up the road. Your mind doesnt jump into the scared worry if you didnt know the driver who has your child in their care. Please obey all the Laws with school in session. Especially Bus Stops!I sincerely hope that the school system takes a strong look at how and what they are teaching kids today. What is wrong with having an American culture class and why we need to have borders in order to secure their future of their kids? Maybe even have every student in MS learn to cook, clean-up and make meals of substance. Maybe you caninspire kids to become a Chef or restaurant employee. One who cares about the quality and what good clean service is supposed to be.Its like cutting back on music class, just to buy more football equipment.cause foot-ball brings in money to the school? But, remember the life-long damages you risk with concussions? Heck, us Fans dont care, we like a good hit, but let it be your son?, all of a sudden the game stops and becomes less important. Music helps develop brain activities like no other. Teaches discipline too. Schools should begin to revamp its way of teach-ing so that we have smarter more intelligent young minds. They are out there, but if all you worry about is your pay, getting through the day. You might not be best for the job. Teachers teach them so they DONT Go TO JAIL....parents are failing that dept. Parents teach manners and respect to them teachers and other adults. The world we are living in today is truly mixed up, hopefully NOT beyond repair. Us, US. Veterans and other military figures need to show these kids why standing up for your rights and this country is very important. Unless you want communistic culture, vote Hillary. We worked too hard for too long not to let the workers of our founding fathers be shuffled aside because of an ideology of an idiot. Do they even cover the Holocaust in school? Too graphic? Its reality, trust me your kid has seen things through the internet that would make you sick. It doesnt seem real to them for its just a video of a behead-ing? When were kids, when did you hear of any beheadings? Its like back in the days of our school days. Was there school shootings going on? Is it just that we see more because todays world everyone has camera/video. What do you think? If you realize for example, that pedophilia has always been a problem, now we have videos busting these despicable actions, but what has the Law done different to detour these sick individuals from touching a child, period? See, just like a thief, until they are caught, do you know he is one.No different from a Liar. So, if the punishment isnt strong enough to detour these criminals from repeating this crap. Whats the point then? Ask the sheriff, how many of the inmates return after being in jail within the same year? It appears to me that so many people have been caught up in the system that the Cops know these guys by name and laugh about the shit they went through. Does that make sense to you? I know of a couple folks that have been recently falsely charged or implemented of a bogus statements that are still tied up in the system. Have you been to court lately? Its all about process, so-called rights they allow you to have. Just pay your fines. I for one have never been involved with such a wasteful tiring system like I have here in Walton county. I say this for Fact, all of you have read about it in past Editions. From county road works, to property line enforcement. Code enforce-ment, state identities I now know and have dealt with over the years. Why? Because of an individual who infiltrated a zoned residential area to expedite his own desire to do whatever they want. Why not sell drugs? Its an illegal operation, taking place according to state officials, (in zoning not permitted for such activity of any commercial statue). And this county has had numerous complaints in every dept. possible, even from some folks no longer alive, or even live here because of his non-sense. Its not legal, been told by code myself, here we are 10years later, still going on? Machinery for the Highway build is only for a short period of time. Who is there for the residents? What dept. do you think you would call for help of such a disturbance to an environment of residential liv-ing standards? Police? They dont, not YET! They havent for so long, he thinks hes above the Law? Well see. I am asking every person who has issues such as ours on our road. Call in, complain so much they will be forced to answer the states vested interest. Read the state Laws of Florida. Read Walton county Ordinances. Ive counted 14 vio-lations from just this one, also verified by the state. They are awaiting to see what county does about these homes along 331, placing cars for sale, storing junk vehicles. Remem-ber what the county approved for Walton Recovery 10 cars they said. LOOK beyond the fence along Hwy. 331, EPA? Why Is there nothing being done to enforce acceptable zoning and code issues? Especially for daily living! If Walton county doesnt address issues like these, what will they do just gfather all the junk and property line changes?Editorial Views expressed in The EMERALD STAR NEWS do not necessarily reflect those of thepublisher. Russian Warships Dock In Iran As IranianMilitary Leader Said THIS About U.S. Troops! Two Russian warships have docked in northern Iran for a series of naval training exercises with the Islamic Republic, ac-cording to Persian-language reports trans-lated by the CIAs Open Source Center. The two Russian ships docked in Irans Anzali port on Sunday and will hold joint naval exercises during the three-day stay of the warships in Iran, according to a Per-sian-language report in Irans state-controlled Fars News Agency. The [Russian] warships, Volgodonsk and Makhachkala docked in Anzali Port [near the Caspian Sea], in the fourth naval zone, on the afternoon of 9 August, the report says. The war exercises come just weeks after Iran and global powers inked a nuclear accord that will provide Iran with billions of dollars in sanctions relief in return for slight restrictions on the countrys nuclear program. Russian and Iran have grown close in re-cent years, with delegations from each country regularly visiting one another to ink arms deals and other agreements aimed at strengthening Irans nuclear program. Russia and Iran agreed earlier this year to begin construction on several new nuclear power plants. Russia has also agreed to sell Iran a controversial advanced missile de-fense system that can prevent attacks by Western powers. The Russian fleet docked in Irans port carrying a message of peace and friend-ship, according to Iranian officials quoted by Fars. The fleet was welcomed by Iranian naval commanders and staff. Walton County is working to promote breastfeeding as a vital health activity and encourages workplaces to support breast-feeding mothers. It is important to support, encourage and promote breastfeeding to employees, clients and customers stated Holly Holt, Adminis-trator of the Florida Department of Health in Walton County. According to the Centers for Disease Con-trol and Prevention, mothers who breastfeed their children are at a healthier weight on average than those who do not. They also have a lower risk of developing Type 2 dia-betes, breast and ovarian cancer. Children who are breastfed have a lower risk for de-veloping respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, asthma, obesity, Type 2 diabetes and SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). To reach the goal of exclusive breastfeed-ing for at least six months, mothers need supportive maternity leave policies, flexible work hours, infant and child-care at or near the workplace, and private facilities for ex-pressing and storing breastmilk. It takes time and practice to learn how to breastfeed, both for mother and baby, and to establish a good milk supply. For more information on the Florida Breastfeeding Coalition's Quality Maternity Care Initiative, visit: http://flbreastfeeding.org/hospital.htm. Adkinson, Jr. has responded to a complaint received by the Freedom From Religion Foundation. The group filed a complaint with the Sheriff over the application of the official motto of the United States and the State of Florida to patrol cars. (The decals were provided at no cost to taxpayers). Annie Laurie Gaylor P.O. Box 750 Madison, WI 53701 Here is Sheriff Adkinsons response: dated August 4, 2015. Ms. Gaylor, Thank you for your correspondence. I respect and appreciate the religious convic-tions or lack thereof of all citizens. I will continue to dutifully enforce the law and protect the rights of all parties, regardless of my personal opinions, as I have for my last 23 years in law enforcement. I see absolutely no conflict in this matter. You are obviously unaware that in God we trust is the state motto of the state of Florida, and has been since 1886. This was reaffirmed in 2006. Additionally, it is the motto of the United States. I would also point out that the motto is inside the badge that has been on the side of our vehicles since the inception of marked patrol cars. As far as the use of tax payer money, I am very proud to say that al-though it was my intention to pay for them personally and that numerous sheriffs office members wanted to contribute; a local business has asked to provide them (Triangle Chevrolet). I will not debate the merit of your understanding of consti-tutional law in regard to this matter. Suffice it to say that I am very aware of the parameters in which our office should operate. We diligently strive to provide principled, fair and professional services (law enforcement as well as other com-munity based services). The disdain of a small minority should never, absentlegitimate grievance, take precedence over the majority. Therefore, in this issue I am unwilling to compromise. If the Freedom From Religion Foundation wishes us to take them off our vehicles I suggest that they get a Judges order, or a new Sheriff. Sincerely, Sheriff Michael A. A survey found that more than 40 percent of these men indicated that their use of supplements such as whey protein, protein bars, creatine and glutamine had increased over time, said study author Richard Achiro, a Los Angeles psychotherapist. Further, one of every five men said they replaced regular meals with dietary supplements that are not intended to be meal replacements. On the more extreme end, 8 percent of the men said their physician told them to cut back or stop using supplements due to an actual or potential effect on their health, and 3 percent had been hospitalized for kidney or liver problems related to the use of these supplements. Quite a few men are indeed using these supplements in a way that can adversely affect their physical health," Achiro said. "Most alarming is that 30 percent of those men have said their own use of these supplements has concerned them." Responses to questions from an eating disorder questionnaire indicated that the men are using these supplements for many of the same reasons women turn to bulimia or anorexia The male standard of beauty empha-sizes big muscles and a lean frame, so it stands to reason that men ob-sessed with their body image would turn to supplements and exercise rather than fall into an eating disorder that would cause the body to waste away, Achiro said. "Basically, men have different standards and ideals than women when it comes to their bodies, and it makes sense that an eating disorder would be expressed differently in men than in women,"The men were asked to complete an online survey about a variety of subjects, including supple-ment use, self-esteem, body image, eating habits and gender roleconflicts. Although these supplements are legal and sold over-the-counter, overus-ing them or substituting them for food can cause serious health prob-lems. Men can wind up suffering from dehydration, kidney problems and diarrhea by eating too much protein from whey powder or bars or taking too much creatine, an organic acid that supplies energy to muscle.Men have become more self-conscious of their bodies as women have achieved financial independence and started judging men on theirappearance, much as men have traditionally judged women. Make certain you can handle what you are attempting to accomplish. Whether it be Mass muscle or heart health supplements have advantages as well as advantages. Check with a Dr. to ensure you dont overdose. During the first round of the 2016 GOP presidential debates, Jeb Bush was pressured by the moderators to explain his history of pushing for Common Core implementation across the country. In his statement, Bush said: I dont believe the federal government should be involved in the creation of standards directly or indirectly, the creation of curriculum or content. It is clearly a state responsibility. Im for higher standards In his statement though, Bush avoided the specific answer the moderators wanted, which was whether or not he did or did not endorse the current Common Core curricula be adopted by various states. This isn't the first time Bush has dodged the question, back in December of 2014 Bush had this to say about the implementation of off a common curricula adopted by states: "...Standards are different than curriculum...I would be con-cerned if we had a national curriculum influenced by the fed-eral government. My God, Id break out in a rash." Here's why the way Bush phrased his response is so telling, he spent his por-tion of his answer time during the debate to state what Common Core is not instead of giving an actual answer. Bush simply stated these two known facts: 1) Common Core is not a federal standard of education 2) Common Core is not a product of the Department of Education Even though he did say he was against the federal implementation of core curricula, he did say however that states did have the right to opt-in or opt-out of implementing a shared standard similar to other states . That's where he managed to slip in the answer to the question though, the proverbial devil in the details; Common core is a program which states can choose opt into, which he wants states to do as long as standards for students are high. This should concern anti-Common Core activists, since one of the biggest issues is that the Department of Education did funnel a lot of federal money into states which chose to take part of Common Core, therefore providing a huge incentive without actually endorsing the program. A key moment during this debate debacle was when Senator Marco Rubio responded to the former Governor's re-marks: ck online more... Great Deal, for fishing and niceget-a-way from the hustle and bustle Health Officials Urge Residents to Avoid Contact with Wild and Stray Animals - The Florida Department of Health in Walton County (DOH-Walton) urges residents to avoid contact with wild and stray animals to protect themselves from the risk of rabies exposure. In Florida, raccoons, bats and foxes, and unvaccinated cats are the animals most frequently diagnosed with rabies. Other animals that are at high risk for rabies include skunks, otters, coyotes, bobcats, and stray or unvaccinated dogs and ferrets. Each year, DOH-Walton receives reports of rabid animals. In 2014, one rabid fox was reported in Walton County. Most recently, a fox with exposure to a pet was reported in August. Rabies is a potentially fatal disease. It is important not to handle wild animals, to be aware of unusual acting animals and to keep pets vaccinated against rabies, said Holly Holt, Administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Walton County. Rabies is transmitted through exposure to the saliva and nervous tissue from a rabid animal through a bite, scratch, or contact with mucous membranes such as the eyes, nose, or mouth. DOH-Walton works with Walton County Animal Services in re-sponding to incidents of animal bites, tests animals for rabies through the Department of Health state laboratory and quarantines animals as necessary. DOH-Walton also provides rabies vaccinations to victims of animal bites, the only known effective treatment for rabies prevention in humans. The following are steps you can take to protect yourself and your loved ones against rabies: Keep rabies vaccinations up to date for all pets. Keep your pets under direct supervi-sion so they do not come in contact with wild animals. If your pet is bitten by a wild animal, seek veterinary assistance for the animal immediately and contact Walton County Animal Services at 850-892-8682 or the DOH-Walton Environmental Health Division at 850-892-8021. Call your local animal control agency to remove any stray animals from your neighborhood. Spay or neuter your pets to help reduce the number of unwanted pets that may not be properly cared for or regularly vaccinated. Do not handle, feed, or unintentionally attract wild animals with open garbage cans or litter. Never adopt wild animals or bring them into your home. Teach children never to handle unfamiliar animals, wild or domestic, even if they appear friendly. Prevent bats from entering living quarters or occupied spaces in homes, churches, schools, and other similar areas, where they might come in contact with people and pets. The 2015 draft annual update of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) is now available for public review and comment. The CEDS is a working document, used by private and public sectors, aimed at helping expand private-public part-nerships. A hard copy of the draft is available at West Florida Regional Planning Council, 4081 E. Olive Rd., Suite A, in Pensa-cola or online at www.wfrpc.org. Public comments may be submitted to Caitlin Ce-rame or call (850) 332-7976 ext. 203, until September 3, 2015. Because the northwest Florida region was designated an Economic Development Dis-trict (EDD), WFRPC is required to conduct a major update of the CEDS every five years and provide minor annual updates on all other years. The 2015 update is con-ducted by the CEDS Committee, which reviews the CEDS, provides status updates for strategic projects, programs, and activities, and revision to the Goals and Objec-tives as needed. The CEDS Committee, comprised of diverse public and private sec-tor representatives, brings representatives together to develop an economic roadmap to diversify and strengthen regional economies. A CEDS analyzes the regional econ-omy and serves as a guide for establishing regional goals and objectives, developing and implementing a regional plan of action, and identifying investment priorities and funding sources. This year, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) required the document to address economic resilience, which was incorporated throughout the CEDS by establishing goals and objectives for emergency prepared-ness and action steps for industry diversifica-tion. The current CEDS (2013-18) uses the Florida Chamber Foundations Six Pillars of Floridas Future EconomyTM framework. All eleven regional planning councils in Florida developed their CEDS using this framework, resulting in a united effort to advance the state as a global competitor for jobs and new industry. Yes, the meeting may be over but ac-cording to our resources this issue is not over. Outsiders calling the move cow-ardly. It wasnt even voted by the people, why not? What was the rush? Are we going to surrender to ISIS when they come knocking? In an unprecedented move Sara Com-mander chose which Flag to replace the Confederate War Flag that was there for so many years. With another Confederate War Flag, called the stars and bars. Peo-ple were shocked. People at the jammed packed meeting were stunned to see the Commissioners by-pass the people all together and vote this Flag in its place. The entire Nation has seen what Walton county has done. Many folks are not happy with the change. One resident said, why change it at all, we are the south. If she thought replacing it with a differ-ent version of the same thing wouldnt that still be considered a racist Flag or offensive to some? Which was why the whole debate came about. They saw what they did in S.C. and felt a need to rush to change something we have been proud of for many decades. It was a scared foolish move. We are not the owners of slaves, that was back in an era when it was great for southern folks to have Plantations to house slave workers. If our country continues this path of fear of being offensive, soon the USA Flag will be banned for more lives have died over that Flag than any other. Then where is our great history? Our monuments of heroism and bravery? Just as any other tyrannical society, statues will be destroyed, evidence of our Past will be gone. Who will live to tell the tale for the next generations? Whether you were raised up North and as a Southerner, the importance of knowing the truths that created so many changes for the better. Only now to see them vanish through Obamas mad tyrant against America. The moves he has been making in recent weeks is very disturbing and this IRAN NUKE DEAL? We got screwed, they are liars and will hide evidence in order to destroy Israel then the USA. Death to America is their chant. Thanks for the update, Frank!Good news!!! Thank God for people like you and Donald Trump who are bold enough to say it like it is. Dont STOP! Despite what the media says about expecting candidates to be "politically correct," I think Americans find it refresh-ing to hear a candidate call a spade a spade.Controversial, but I'd rather see Donald in the Oval office, than Hillary. I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right address, but from the gen-eral description, I've noticed that there is a few houses on 331 on the right as you're heading toward the bridge, which has some stor-age box units out front, along with a new "For Sale" sign. So, looks like you're making progress there as well. The Man who is running an illegal Land Clearing business in a zoned residential has to be a joke. Those folks on Waterside can not be happy about it. Who would want to live in a construction zone company next door 7 days a week? Its cat and mouse with him, I see just from what you wrote, many of us has seen this Man sticking his nose in places it dont belong. All in SW signs too. Besides, if it werent for the citizens complaining wouldnt we be just a continua-tion of Alabama? Looks terrible. There are Laws on the Books in place to prevent people like that, invading and disrupting a normal neighborhood. Hence the zoning. Boundaries have been crossed on that road. Just look at any survey. Nowhere else in this county would any one Family expect to Deal with this fraudulent activi-ties. We do take pictures and send to the state as we go by for you. They say our county is not looking good when they handled this so poorly for years. Investi-gate deeper. They know of him. We support your right to live in residential and it remain that way. Youre a good man for all you do to keep a better standard set high, for value. SR Healthmark Health Matters Wear and tear Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affect-ing millions of people around the world. Often called wear-and-tear arthritis, osteoarthritis occurs when the protective carti-lage on the ends of your bones wears down over time. While osteoarthritis can damage any joint in your body, according to researchers at Mayo Clinic, the disorder most commonly affects joints in the hands, neck, lower back, knees and hips. Osteoarthritis gradually worsens with time, and no cureexists, but proper treatment can slow the progression of the disease, relieve pain and improve joint function. Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones deteriorates over time. Cartilage is a firm, slippery tissue that permits nearly frictionless joint motion. In osteoarthritis, the slick surface of the cartilage becomes rough. Eventually, if the cartilage wears down completely, a person may be left with bone rubbing on bone. Symptoms usually include joint pain and tenderness, stiff-ness upon waking in the morning or after a period of inactivity. There may be a loss of flexibility or a grating sensation that can be felt and heard. The risk of osteoarthritis increases with age and women are more likely to develop osteoarthritis, though it is not clear why. Injuries, such as those that occur when playing sports or from an accident, may increase the risk of osteoarthritis. Carry-ing more body weight also puts added stress on weight-bearing joints, such as your knees and ankles. Certain occupations place repetitive stress on a particular joint, which may eventu-ally lead to osteoarthritis. Having diabetes, underactivethyroid, gout or Paget's disease of bone can increase the risk of developing osteoarthritis. If you have joint pain or stiffness that lasts for more than a few weeks, make an appointment with a physician. While there is no cure for osteoarthritis, early treatment can help to reduce pain and maintain joint movement. Osteoarthritis symptoms can be relieved by a variety of over-the-counter medications, including acetaminophen and ibupro-fen, but too much can cause cardiovascular problems, bleeding problems, and liver and kidney damage. Older people have the highest risk of complications. Prescription medications may provide relief from more severe osteoarthritis pain, but they sometimes carry a risk of dependence and there are sideeffects. A combination approach to treatment that includes medica-tion, physical or occupational therapy often works best. A physician may also suggest splints, braces, shoe inserts or other medical devices that can help reduce pain. These devices can immobilize or support the inflamed joint to reduce pressure. Injections of corticosteroid medications may relieve pain in your joint, but the number of shots a person can receive each year is limited, because the medication can worsen joint dam-age over time. Joint replacement is an option for extreme cases. Hip and knee joints are the most commonly replaced joints. Surgical risks include infections and blood clots.Artificial joints can wear out, too. In the meantime, lifestyle changes and home treatments also can help reduce osteoarthritis symptoms. If you are experienc-ing pain or inflammation in a joint, rest it for 12 to 24 hours and find activities that don't require using the joint repetitively. Exercise can increase your endurance and strengthen the muscles around your joint, such as walking, biking or swim-ming. Lose weight. Being overweight or obese increases the stress on weight-bearing joints, such as knees and hips. Even a small amount of weight loss can relieve some pressure and reduce your pain. Heat and cold can relieve pain in your joint. Heat relieves stiffness, and cold can relieve muscle spasms and pain. Over-the-counter pain creams for temporary relief. Since 1944, Smokey Bear has been a recognized symbol for the conservation and protection of Americas for-ests.Smokey Bears message, Only you can prevent wild-fires, has helped to reduce the number of U.S. acres burned by wildfires from about 22 million to 7 million annually. Since January, the Florida Forest Service has responded to 2,094 wildfires that have burned 70,106 acres. More than 70 percent of all wildfires in Florida are caused by human carelessness and arepreventable. Sometimes its fun, and sometimes its perfectly awful, but itsalways good for you. People in large towns are like only-children. Joyce Dennys There is something to be said about small town living. Today was the first day of school and I had the fantastic opportunity to observe Freeport Middle School in all their first day glory. I have lived in large towns and seen chil-dren struggle in a school system that looks at them as a number, not a childwhere backgrounds and life stories were a part of a folder, not part of a classroom. We moved here to allow our son to experience a childhood that in-cluded librarians knowing his name, neighbors waving to each other, and the waitress at the local restaurant asking how your child is by name. Our son became more than a number and instead, part of a family, when he entered Walton County Schools. We are lucky. We live in an area where school is a prioritychildren come first and educa-tion means something to every single member of our county. People in our community are invested in our chil-dren. My new job allows me to visit numerous schools in Walton County and each teacher I talk to feels the same, they work hard to provide what is best for our students. I had the opportunity to speak to the new teachers at Free-port Middle today and the most common reaction was how fantastic the students were and how amazed they were at the manners the children had in the classroom. In 2015, that means the world. We live in a society where saying yes maam and holding doors for people is an exception, not a rule. Look around at our community, when you have time, and appreciate the wonderful place we live in. Teachers, custodians, secretaries, the Superintendentevery single person in this county works to make your childs education the best they can. Of course I am im-mersed in education, so take my opinion for what it is worth, but spend a few hours in your childs school one dayyou will see that we are blessed to live in a county where every child matters. Thank someone who has changed your childs life and wave to your neighbor, appreciate living in Walton County. ALWAYS READ THE LABELS ON THE FOODS YOU BUY--NO MATTER WHAT THE FRONT OF THE BOX OR PACKAGE SAYS, TURN IT OVER AND READ THE BACK---CAREFULLY! With all the food ...and pet prod-ucts now coming from China , it is best to make sure you read label at the grocery store and especially Walmart when buying food prod-ucts. Many products no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located. It is important to read the bar code to track it's origin. How to read Bar Codes .... interesting! This may be useful to know when grocery shopping, if it's a concern to you. The whole world is con-cerned about China-made "black hearted goods". Can you differenti-ate which one is made in Taiwan or China ? If the first 3 digits of the barcode are 690 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA. 471 is Made in Taiwan .This is our right to know, but the government and related depart-ments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves.Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products "MADE IN CHINA", so they don't show from which coun-try it is made. However, you may now refer to the barcode - remem-ber if the first 3 digits are: 690-692 ... then it is MADE IN CHINA 00 - 09 ... USA & CANADA 30 - 37 FRANCE 40 - 44 GERMANY 471 ... Taiwan 49 ...
