Alexander Funeral Homes

SERVING THE RIVER PARISHES SINCE 1912

Thank you to Alexander Funeral Homes for their

continued support of our church bulletin.

In today’s second reading, we hear the author of the

letter to the Hebrews liken the daily life of the Christian

steward to a race, a long-distance race perhaps, certainly

not a sprint; requiring endurance and a single-minded

focus on Jesus at the finish line. Good stewards are

firmly committed to running the race, to live the

Christian life to the fullest, to keep their eyes focused on

Jesus. They don’t grow weary. They don’t lose heart.

They know there is immense joy waiting for them at the

finish line. Are you fully committed to living each day

for Christ? Are you running the race, or are you simply

jogging? Just walking? Sitting? Going backwards? Going

nowhere? Some of us may want to reflect on what we

can do to run the race with even more conviction.

Others may want to reflect on how to simply enter the

race and start running.

We express our sincere appreciation to Ken Massett,

who volunteered to be our Parish Synod Coordinator for

the past five years. As coordinator, he has served as our

parish liaison to the Archdiocesan Ninth General Synod

Committee and has been instrumental in establishing

the Evangelization, Family Life, Social Justice and

Vocations committees for our parish. As our Synod

Coordinator, he has also served as an Ex-officio member

of our Pastoral Council.

We are very appreciative of all of Ken’s hard work and

willingness to serve our parish in this capacity as well as

the many other ministries he is involved with.

IMPORTANT BUSINESS NEWS...

We want to help our ministries communicate their events

and support their fundraisers. Here are a few things that you

may need to know…

1. We work 2 weeks ahead on the bulletin, so get your

dates to us early.

2. We need notice at least 30 days prior of any fundraiser

so that we can meet the State of Louisiana requirements

to request a sales tax exemption and/or approval of

raffles on our gaming license.

Growing with the Gospel Activity for the Week

Prayer

Lord, make me strong so that I choose goodness and

not evil.

Something to Draw

Draw the roads of goodness and evil. Draw yourself on

the road of goodness.

Mission for the Week

When I am tempted to do evil, I will pray, “Make me

strong, Lord.”

Puzzle

OF THE WORD

will resume on August 18 at our 9:30 am Mass.

All children ages three (and pottytrained) through first

grade will be dismissed to a classroom to hear the Liturgy

of the Word proclaimed and participate in an activity that

will be geared to their age. All children will return to the

church for the final blessing.

Children are a reminder that our Parish is alive and

growing and will always be welcome at Mass. Here are

a few hints to make Mass easier with young ones…

1. Sit up front where they can see.

2. Quietly explain the parts of the Mass and respond to

psalms, prayers and in song.

3. If you need to settle a child in the Gathering Space,

please feel welcome to come back into the Church.
