Today we are going to read the story Go, Go, Go! Before we read I would like for us to look at the title and the author of the book. Remember the title is the name of the book and the author is the person who wrote the book. By looking

at the cover of the book what do you think our story will be about today?

Today we are going to segment, or break apart, sentences. We want to know how many words are in each

sentence. On the next slide we have some sentences. I want you to listen as I read the sentences. Put up one

finger for each word you hear.

Today we are going to be talking about a letter in the alphabet. We are talking about the letter A. Can you tell me what sound letter A makes? When we hear this sound we call it a short A. I am going to tell you some words. If you hear this short A sound I want you to give me a thumbs up. If you do not hear the short A sound, give me a thumbs down.

Today I am going to read you a story about a little girl. This little girl wants to play with her older brother. What do you think he will say?

Our story is a realistic fiction story. This means that it is not true but it really could

happen. Let’s read to see if any of the predictions we made are true.

Today we are going to learn about sentences. Every sentence tells a complete thought or idea.

Sentences have two parts – one part that tells who it is about and the other part tells what they did. Always remember that a sentence begins with a

capital letter and ends with a period. Let’s see if we can pick out the two parts in these sentences.

Jamaica followed her brother.Ossie played basketball.

Jamaica and Berto made a sand castle.Dan and Pat ran.The bag is tan.
