August 26 2020: A Back to School Edition! Dear Families, Next week marks the return of our staff to Saint Rose. We are excited, overwhelmed, happy, nervous, and just ready to get going. This year will be one like no other, but I promise you we will do everything we can to keep your children, your families, and our staff safe. I cannot begin to tell you how thankful I have been for the help we’ve received from the Archdiocese, CSCOE, neighboring school principals, and many staff members in planning and preparing for the start of in person learning. We know we can’t predict how the school year will play out, but we are prepared for and ready to respond to any scenario given to us. We are ready! Looking back on the past 6 months, closing school in March was a very challenging time. Preparing to re-open has been an even more challenging task; one I have not taken lightly. As a parent, I fully understand your concerns, and I bet I’ve had many of the same conversations at home. As a principal, I hold those conversations in a different light, while still wearing my ‘parent hat.’ Everything we’ve done this summer has been to provide your child and our families in-person learning while staying as safe as possible. And, I know as both a parent and a principal, that all the planning that’s taken place over these past 5 ½ months will only work if it’s a collective effort. I cannot, our teachers cannot, and our staff cannot do this alone! Please remind students to wear face masks, keep distant when possible, wash hands and sanitize often, and stay home when sick. Together we can do amazing things, and we will be a stronger school community. I ask that this school year we understand that there is no single right answer and everyone has opinions on how and what to do when dealing with COVID. Please understand that we will do everything we can to limit exposures and if a time comes where COVID is traced to a member of our school community, we will take guidance from MDH (Minnesota Department of Health) and the Archdiocese when dealing with any potential or confirmed COVID cases. All COVID-related questions can be directed to me, and I will field those questions to the best of my ability. Communication with myself and the school office is going to be vital. In an effort to streamline that process, if at any time outside of school hours, you need to contact me because of a COVID-related diagnosis or exposure, my direct office phone number 651- 357-1228 will ring directly to my cell phone. I may not always be able to answer immediately, but leave a message and I will do everything in my power to return your call. Please DON’T WAIT TO CALL! Also, our [email protected] email goes directly to Mrs. Iverson and Mrs. Sandquist. A brief overview of our process when we have a lab- confirmed case of COVID-19 is attached and will also be added to our COVID plans on the school website. At Saint Rose of Lima, we pride ourselves on our community feeling, our small class sizes, and our welcoming nature. This school year all the things we do as a community will look and feel slightly different, but that doesn’t change who we are. We are welcoming 49 new students K-8, and 25 Pre-K students to our school. Our enrollment has been a conversation for years, and this year is a wonderful opportunity for us to expand and grow as a community. I encourage everyone to reach out to new families within your child’s homeroom or other grades and find ways to connect; show them just how welcoming we are! As of today we have 128 K-8 students. We have an opportunity to exceed that number before school starts and truly expand and grow our school community for years to come!
