1 From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners and Friends of Blessed Sacrament, It has been an evenul first month for me at Blessed Sacrament. I wish to thank you for your warm welcome in my new home and parish. I want to thank the parish staff for organizing the Meet and Greetlast weekend, and the many parishioners who stopped in to say, Welcome to Blessed Sacrament.I had an opportunity to meet with our Parish Trustees last week, Vernon Smith and Steve Rusmisel. It was a golden opportunity to hear them speak of their history with the parish and for me to share with them some inial observaons on our parish community. One of the tasks from our meeng is to reacvate a Parish Finance Commiee. As a requirement of Canon Law and mandate from the Diocese, the Parish Finance Commiee ought to meet at least four mes a year and have real-me knowledge of the financial health of the parish. The priests of our Diocese were informed last week that the Diocese would be conducng an audit of 70 parishes. As stated in a leer from our bishop: I know, too, that financial stewardship is a dimension of parish life that requires our increasing vigilance in order to be accountable and transparent with the monetary giſts our good people provide for the mission of the Church. In order to lead with integrity, it is necessary that our financial reporng systems be strengthened. I have directed the Diocesan Finance Council and our internal administraon to propose a response in order to accomplish the internal audits of parishes in a mely way. The goal of the audit is to establish best pracces in the stewards of parish donaons. If a parishioner has a financial background and would have an interest in being part of the Parish Finance Commiee, please contact me at via the parish office or email [email protected] Last weekend, several parishioners asked about Molly, my brothers bulldog. Originally, I was to dog sit this summer. However, my mother decided that she wanted to take care of Molly instead. As mom said, she is more relaxed here with me.Enjoy the final weeks of summer and I look forward to sharing more parish developments over the next few weeks. Blessings, Fr. 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” ( Luke 12:15)

The Gospel message today is contrary to our modern culture where advertising continually tries to convince us that our value lies n the things we possess. Jesus showed us that our true value in in the way we live our lives. He challenges us not to hoard material possessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle and become more “other centered” and less “self centered.”
