WELCOME! We are always excited to see new faces in our Church. The members, friends, and staff of St. Francis of Assisi Parish look forward to welcoming you into this community of faith. We invite you to join us for any worship service or event we offer as a way to get to know us better, as you seek your place in our community.

All are welcome to join us in worship as we come from diverse backgrounds seeking lives of greater balance and spiritual growth.

NEW TO OUR PARISH? We’d love to have you join our faith community! Start the registration process by completing one of our “Welcome” cards found in each aisle, by going online or by calling the parish office.

PRAY - ADORATION CHAPEL "I want to draw a veil between your soul and the world. I want to reserve you for Myself alone, and hide you far from the gaze of demons and of men. This is the hiddenness of the Host, My true Body, now exposed before your eyes, and then hidden away in the tabernacle. Looking at the Host, the world sees nothing: no action, no usefulness, no message, no significance. Looking at the same Host with the eyes of faith, what do you see? Consent to be hidden, even as I am hidden, and you shall want for nothing." In Sinu Jesu-A Benedictine Monk

Urgent Need: Wednesday 1:00-2:00 a.m. Thursday 1:00-2:00 a.m. Sunday 1:00-2:00 a.m.

Call Sandy Rongish at 990-6647 or Jenny Morgan at 721-8871 if you would like to sign up.

Father’s Focus

Throughout the summer we will read excerpts from the Holy Father’s Exhortation

“Rejoice and Be Glad.”

80. Mercy has two aspects. It involves giving, helping and serving others, but it also

includes forgiveness and understanding. Matthew sums it up in one golden rule: “In

everything, do to others as you would have them do to you” (7:12). The Catechism

reminds us that this law is to be applied “in every case”,[71]especially when we are

“confronted by situations that make moral judgments less assured and decision diffi-

cult”.[72]

81. Giving and forgiving means reproducing in our lives some small measure of

God’s perfection, which gives and forgives superabundantly. For this reason, in the

Gospel of Luke we do not hear the words, “Be perfect” (Mt 5:48), but rather, “Be

merciful, even as your Father is merciful. Judge not, and you will not be judged; con-

demn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give,

and it will be given to you” (6:36-38). Luke then adds something not to be over-

looked: “The measure you give will be the measure you get back” (6:38). The yard-

stick we use for understanding and forgiving others will measure the forgiveness we

receive. The yardstick we use for giving will measure what we receive. We should

never forget this.

82. Jesus does not say, “Blessed are those who plot revenge”. He calls “blessed” those

who forgive and do so “seventy times seven” (Mt 18:22). We need to think of our-

selves as an army of the forgiven. All of us have been looked upon with divine com-

passion. If we approach the Lord with sincerity and listen carefully, there may well be

times when we hear his reproach: “Should not you have had mercy on your fellow

servant, as I had mercy on you?” (Mt 18:33).

Seeing and acting with mercy: that is holiness.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL BACKPACKS 4 KIDS Is asking for your help to feed hungry children in the Catholic Schools for the 2018-2019 school year. We have expanded to all Catholic schools in our 3rd year of the pro-gram. Through generous cost sharing with the Kansas Food Bank we are able to pro-vide a weekend of food per child for $5.50. Last school year we feed 289 students per weekend. Ron and Petrina Morley have graciously offered to match dollar for dollar donations received by September 7, 2018 up to $15,000.00. Any and all donations would be appreciated. You may send your donation to Backpacks 4 kids, P O Box 780926, Wichita, KS 67207.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Backpacks 4 kids is also looking for volunteers to serve on the Committee and to help at

the Kansas Food Bank packaging food. Committee meetings are usually held monthly

and last approximately 1 hour.

OPERATIONS COUNCIL REPORT

Everyone needs a vacation, but don’t take a vacation from your parish support. Many projects and improvements have continued over the summer to upgrade our facilities and keep the parish operating. Our electric bill goes up in the summer months as well to keep the church nice and cool. Making a grateful response for all our blessings is a call all months of the year. Enjoy these summer days and be thankful for each moment the Lord has given us. The St Francis Operations Council
