Get behind the steering wheel and everything simply feels right. That’s because the cockpit has been designed around the driver to ensure that everything is close at hand. The bridged centre console not only makes a strong visual statement, it unites all essential controls including the gear lever which has been raised to ergonomic height for extra smooth gear changes.

The dashboard with new Optitron dials ensures greater clarity and gives you all the essential information you need, whether it’s the average speed or outside temperature. For your comfort, the steering wheel column and driver’s seat are fully adjustable. The 3-door model also features memory function for the front seats, whilst the rear seats have a 2-position reclining system.

Technology, assisting you all the way

Welcome to the heart of the Auris, where technology makes driving a joy. Begin the journey with Driver’s Smart Entry*. All you need to do is carry the Driver’s Smart Entry key in your pocket. It’s fitted with a transmitter that sends out a signal which allows you to unlock the car by simply touching the handle. Once behind the steering wheel, Smart Start* allows you to just depress the clutch and press the engine switch button, and the engine will start automatically. (With MultiMode transmission, you need to depress the brake pedal.)

For excellent clarity, the instrument panel houses all-new Optitron meters with stylish, three-dimensionally moulded dials and advanced LED technology, which helps to minimise eye strain while driving.

On manual models, the gear shift indicator automatically suggests to you when to shift gears up or down for optimal fuel economy and environmental performance. For your entertainment, there’s also a standard MP3 and WMA compatible radio CD player.

T Spirit and T180 feature dusk sensing headlights, cruise control and a rain sensor to automatically activate the wipers. And to get you swiftly to your destination, a touch-screen satellite navigation system is also available as an option.

Effortless precision

Drive the new Auris and you’ll see what it means to truly connect with a car – thanks to new engines, Electric Power Steering (EPS) and newly developed suspension systems.

There’s a choice of five refined power units including new turbo-charged D-4D diesel engines and VVT-i petrol models ranging from 90 to 177 hp with manual and automatic transmissions to match.

A 5-speed MultiMode transmission is also available on the 1.6 litre VVT-i and the D-4D 90 engines. Featuring electronic clutch operation, the transmission can be operated as an automatic gearbox or as a manual sequential shift gearbox for a more active, sporty drive, simply by pressing the paddles on the steering wheel.

Rear double wishbone suspensionThe newly developed double wishbone rear suspension on the T180 ensures outstanding handling ability and ride comfort.

MacPherson front suspensionThe new front suspension incorporates refined MacPherson struts for a smoother drive.

On the D-4D 130 and the D-4D 180 engines, performance is delivered through a smooth 6-speed manual transmission.

Whilst all Auris models feature newly developed MacPherson front suspension and refined torsion beam rear suspension, the high power D-4D 180 diesel benefits from a specially designed lightweight double wishbone rear suspension. New Electric Power Steering also comes as standard. This assists the driver by adding steering torque assistance to make steering actions even smoother. By only working when needed, it does not have the fuel consumption impact of conventional hydraulic systems.

Performance to suit every style

D-4D If you want to strike a balance between maximum performance and efficiency, you’ll like the D-4D 90 and the newly developed D-4D 130 diesel engines. Common rail direct injection adjusts pressure, timing and volume as you drive, injecting finely atomised fuel at high pressure into the combustion chamber for the best performance.

The newly developed 2.0 litre D-4D 130 unit is yet another example of sophisticated Toyota diesel technology. The 126 DIN hp engine boasts an astonishing 300 Nm maximum torque, taking it from 0 to 62 mph in 10.3 seconds. It’s fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard.

As with the D-4D 180 the availability of maximum torque over a broad rev band means effortless acceleration is on hand at all times.

The 1.4 litre D-4D 90 engine delivers 90 DIN hp and a maximum torque of 130 Nm, taking the Auris from 0 to 62 mph in 12.0 seconds (14.7 with MultiMode). Choose between 5-speed manual and the new 5-speed MultiMode transmission with paddle shift.

D-4D power and torque The 2.0 litre D-4D engines emits 126 DIN hp at 3600 rpm, and achieves 300 Nm maximum torque at 2000–2800 rpm.

VVT-iDiscover the essence of driving pleasure delivered by two responsive petrol engines.

The 1.6 litre engine features the all-new Dual VVT-i technology which marks a significant evolution of the highly effective VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing – intelligent) technology already available on Toyota models. Dual variable valve timing controls both the intake and exhaust valves, offering much greater engine flexibility with more power output, more torque and lower fuel consumption. The 124 DIN hp unit features 157 Nm maximum torque and acceleration to 62 mph in 10.4 seconds (12.1 with MultiMode). To get the best out of this VVT-i model, choose between a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed MultiMode transmission with Paddle Shift.

The 1.4 litre VVT-i unit offers 97 DIN hp and a maximum torque of 130 Nm, maximum speed 106 mph, and acceleration to 62 mph in 13.0 seconds. To get the most out of this four-cylinder VVT-i engine, a 5-speed manual transmission is standard.

VVT-i fuel economyThanks to the all-new Dual VVT-i technology the 1.6 litre model impresses with 39.8 mpg (40.9 mpg with MultiMode) and low emission levels of 166 g/km.

VVT-i power and torqueThe new 1.6 Dual VVT-i engine delivers excellent performance with 124 DIN hp at 6000 rpm, and excellent torque of 157 Nm at 5200 rpm.


Space designed to suit you

Innovation is one of the Auris’ many strengths, as proven by plenty of practical storage ideas throughout the interior. Essential items can be safely stored and reached whenever you need them. Apart from practical rear-door pockets, the glovebox with dual opening and an underseat tray for the front passenger, the striking new sculpted, bridged centre console reveals another innovative storage idea – a compartment for a mobile phone or similar small items.

An overhead console to hold your sunglasses*, as well as cup holders for the front and rear seats are standard on Auris.

From lounge to luggage area in an instant It’s so easy to adapt the spacious Auris to your needs. Thanks to a lower cargo floor and wider body, the luggage compartment can hold a capacity of up to 354 litres. It’s carpeted throughout, to ensure even your luggage travels in style. 60:40 split rear seats and a 2-position reclining mechanism further add to the Auris’ versatility.

Should you crave yet more space, simply employ the one-touch tilt-down mechanism. It allows you to fold the backrests forward to create a larger luggage area with a generous load capacity of 777 litres up to the window line and 1190 to the roof.

ABS with EBDABS works in tandem with EBD to help prevent the wheels locking and enabling you to steer more effectively around obstacles as you come to a stop.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)In wet conditions or when taking a corner too fast, VSC acts to reduce side slippage of tyres, helping you maintain grip and giving you back control.

Confidence to master anything

To ensure danger is kept at bay, the new Auris features a whole range of advanced active safety systems including newly designed front and rear brakes as well as electronic stability systems.

The new Auris can help you avoid difficult situations thanks to intelligent technology like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) with Traction Control (TRC).

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA)ABS helps to stop wheels locking on slippery roads while EBD optimises braking force between the front and rear (as well as the left and right) wheels so that you can successfully negotiate obstacles as you bring the car to a complete stop. Brake Assist is able to detect emergency braking and, in cases where not enough pressure has been applied to the brake pedal, will add additional braking power.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)*VSC actively intervenes when it senses that the vehicle is at risk of sliding out of control – going too quickly around a corner, for example. It works by automatically applying the brake to the appropriate wheel, to help bring the car back to its intended path.

Traction Control (TRC)*TRC uses braking and reduced torque in situations where the wheels lose grip on the road or start spinning and restores traction by redistributing the amount of power to each wheel independently.

Thanks to a comprehensive range of safety systems, the new Auris is one of the safest cars in its class, so you’re always well looked after. In the event of a collision, a high strength body structure contributes to maximum safety all round.

SRS AirbagsFor added safety, each Auris has nine airbags:

• Driver’s knee airbag (a first for a car in this segment) – minimises the risk of foot and leg injuries.

• Driver and front passenger SRS airbags.

• Driver and front passenger side airbags.

• Front and rear curtain shield airbags, designed to protect the front and rear occupants from head injuries during a side collision.

Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL)The new Auris is equipped with second-generation Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) seats. These are designed to reduce neck injuries in the event of a rear-end collision at low speed.

Headrests and Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seat belts for all seatsAll five seats have three-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seat belts. Front seat belts incorporate pre-tensioners which instantly draw the seat belt back at the moment of impact and force-limiters that release belt tension when a specific load is reached. A visual and two-stage audio seat belt warning system is fitted as standard. Together with the SRS airbags, the overall effect is to help maximise safety while reducing the likelihood of injuries.

Euro NCAPToyota Auris has been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP, with a total adult safety score of 35, the highest in its class. Auris has four stars for child protection and three stars for pedestrian safety.

Environment

In an effort to meet the environmental challenge, Toyota is working towards reducing emissions in all areas of activity. The ‘Aim: Zero Emissions’ concept fits into Toyota’s broad vision of sustainable mobility, in which environmental impact is measured over a vehicle’s entire life cycle, and emphasis is placed on reducing this impact.

Ecological Vehicle Assesment System (Eco-Vas)To achieve lower emissions and greener vehicles on the way toward the ultimate eco-car, it is essential to measure progress.

Toyota has therefore developed its Ecological Vehicle Assessment System, or Eco-Vas. This is a comprehensive approach to assessing a vehicle’s whole life cycle – from its initial design and manufacturing to its use on the road and eventual disposal or recovery – in terms of its impact on the environment,

starting at the early stages of development.

Eco-Vas is based on the concept of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and enables development teams to evaluate the environmental impact of a new vehicle ahead of its actual production.

Product and technology developmentToyota’s product and technology development can be summed up in two words: Zeronize and Maximize. Toyota is striving for zero negative impacts on our environment, zero accidents and zero traffic congestion, whilst at the same time seeking to maximize positive driving aspects such as comfort, fun and excitement. Toyota’s aim is to deploy the appropriate engine technology to provide its customers with the right car for the right place at the right time.

Greener ManufacturingTo ensure the proper application of environmental best practice, Toyota has introduced a consolidated Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001, which governs all manufacturing operations as well as the entire supply chain. Constant efforts to improve the world-famous Toyota Production System (TPS) reduced radically the environmental impact at our manufacturing plants. Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK has achieved the ambitious target of delivering zero waste to landfills.

RecyclingIn line with its strong pro-environmental stance, Toyota supports recycling at each stage of vehicle development, production, use and disposal. The Toyota Recycle Vision sets specific targets for improving vehicle recovery rates, increasing the use of recyclable resources, recycled materials and used parts, and reducing substances of environmental concern. The Toyota guidelines seek to achieve a 95% vehicle re-use and recovery rate by 2015 – the target set by current legislation.

On the day you purchase your Auris, your retailer will present you with the ‘Auris Passport’. It’s a guide to getting the best out of your Auris and its comprehensive range of features. Of course, your retailer will explain the Auris to you in detail – and will always be available should you require any assistance.

Intelligent designThe Auris is designed and engineered to minimise maintenance costs. There are fewer parts that require servicing and those that do are inherently durable to extend service intervals. Equally important is that Auris technology is made easily accessible so that maintenance labour time can be minimised. These features combine with the highly competitive pricing of Toyota spares to ensure the lowest cost of maintaining your Auris in an ideal working condition.

Toyota quality serviceYour Toyota retailer will talk you through the Auris ‘Health and Safety’ maintenance programme. The programme is very straightforward and designed for your convenience. In effect, your Auris needs a full service, dependent on driving style and conditions, up to once every two years or 20,000 miles (whichever comes sooner). An intermediate Health and Safety check is necessary every year or 10,000 miles.

Toyota warrantyComprehensive termsThe warranty covers any defect caused by a manufacturing or assembly fault. It is valid for three years of normal use or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, with no mileage limitation for the first year.

If the car is immobilised due to a breakdown (as a result of a defect covered under warranty), you will also be covered for the cost of towing your vehicle to the nearest authorised Toyota repairer.

Rust and paint defectsThe warranty also covers surface rust and paint defects appearing on any of the painted body panels as a result of a fault in material for a period of three years, regardless of mileage.

Corrosion coverThe warranty offers 12 years’ coverage, regardless of mileage, against perforation of the bodywork (from inside to outside) that develop due to corrosion caused by faults in material or workmanship.

Toyota genuine partsThe Auris is designed to minimise the cost of accident repair. Energy absorbing elements are built into the bumpers, expensive to replace parts are located away from damage zones, and commonly damaged body parts are bolted rather than welded. As a result, the extent of damage is limited and damaged parts are easy to remove, replace or repair. Ultimately, this means lower part and labour charges.

Added securityThe Auris’s security system withstands the insurance industry’s rigorous five-minute attack test and provides excellent protection. Both the alarm system and engine immobiliser are approved by Europe’s major insurance companies.
