Dear Parent/ Carer,
A warm welcome to the autumn issue of our Newsletter,
which provides many highlights and updates of the term.
We started the year with an excellent array of summer
results across both schools and the curriculum, placing us as
two of the very best schools in the city and nationally for our
provision and outcomes achieved. This was soon followed in
September 2017 with an Ofsted inspection of the Girls
school.
The report letter (available in its entirety via the school
website), outlines that:
The religious character of the school enriches the
curriculum.
The school is outward looking, celebrating and
valuing a wide range of cultures.
The school environment is colourful, thought-
provoking and reinforces the importance of learning
We have reinforced the belief that learning is at the
heart of the school’s work, through the simple words
‘We’re here to learn’

Black History Month
It has been a busy term for the Faculty. The first
big event of the year came in October, which
for the past 30 years has been recognised as
Black History Month in the UK.
Madani used this opportunity to celebrate the
contributions of minority groups to British and
World History. The department was excited to
see everyone in the school involved.
Forms explored race relations and debated
questions like whether or not racial prejudice is
declining in Britain? Teachers of all subjects
played a part in BHM by highlighting the
accomplishments of significant figures in lessons.
This month was especially important in history
lessons, where students looked beyond
celebrating the achievements of key figures and
asked tough questions to explore the history
curriculum and whether or not it does enough to
recognise diversity, experiences and
contributions of minority groups.
We tackled difficult questions like who should be
responsible for creating interest in black history
and whether or not Black History Month, despite
all its positive intentions; gave us an excuse to
exclude this experience from our history lessons
for the rest of the year. The mature and
considered responses of students to these
questions were truly impressive.
Remembrance Day
An important event for the department. Mr. Afzal
had the incredible opportunity to take part in a
two day visit to France where he visited the
graves of Muslim soldiers who fought in World
War I and learned about the contribution of
Muslim soldiers from Asia and Africa during the
war. Please do ask him about this experience
and what he learned while he was there.
Geography
Finally, Year 9 students in geography have been
developing not only their knowledge of the
impacts of our energy use, but have also
become better collaborative learners and
teachers.
Students have been working on recognising
each other’s strengths, and it was fantastic to
see the support students offered each other
when they were asked to evaluate each other’s
pamphlets on the future of non-renewable
resources; and the renewable alternatives and
their plans for how to use non-renewable
resources in the future. As a teacher, the best
lessons are the ones where students support
each other’s confidence and learning in a
positive way.

50% when using a trampoline.” Whilst Abu Bakr
Short and his team concluded that “there is no
correlation and therefore the height of a person
does not affect how high they can jump.” These
were just some of the findings discovered by the
Maths Ambassadors.
It was amazing to discover students applying
their knowledge of Maths in a fun and
interactive setting. The teacher and students
thoroughly enjoyed their day at Flip Out
Trampoline Park.
Flip Out Maths Trip – 6th December 2017
15 students from the Madani Boys School had
the opportunity to go to Flip Out Trampoline Park
on an educational visit accompanied by Mr
Mohmed from the Maths department.
On the trip, the students completed a
Mathematics project based on statistics and
data collection. This trip was a fantastic
opportunity for them to immerse themselves into
the new topic they will be studying in the
coming term. The trip also allowed the students
to explore and identify ways of incorporating
Maths into real life situations.
Before attending the park, the students came up
with a hypothesis which they were going to test
at the trampoline park. This hypothesis was
based on how high they could jump. The aim
was to discover whether there is a correlation
between the height of their normal jump and
trampoline leap.
The learners worked in small teams to test their
hypothesis before discussing what they had
found. Easaa Maniyar and his team found that
their “jump height increases by approximately

Computer Science, Business & Maths Club
The following students have been selected for developing a
project for the club so that skills from the three subjects are
applied, the club will start in the New Year:

10FM, Zunaira Akbar 10SJ, Iqra Rehman 8MK, Amirah Chilli
10MK, Saffiyah Muhammad 8AM and Atiyah Arif 8AM.
Advice to students
Always re-cap/revise work prior to the lesson not just for
assessments, therby not only will you be prepared for the
lesson but also there will be less ‘cramming’ for assessments.
Programing can be daunting for some students, but the
more you practise the easier it will be to understand the
language.

Y8 boys received a talk from Zubair Moti who
works as an engineer at Jaguar Land Rover. He
was speaking primarily about the Bloodhound
Supersonic Car, which is a British attempt to build
a land vehicle capable of breaking speed
records to travel at nearly 1000mph; and the
types of engines and braking systems used to
execute such a record.
Zubair spoke about the Jaguar cars he has
worked on, STEM related careers, the
importance of Design and Technology, Science
and Maths for Engineering careers and what the
Year 8 students should expect when they visit
Jaguar and Land Rover in March 2018. Students
asked some fantastic questions, and got some
brilliant responses; students also designed
creative car parts and features!

‘Children in need’ was a ‘spotacular’ event,
students were given the opportunity to decorate their own
cupcakes and wear a yellow or spotty item of clothing.
The student council was elected by pupils. We have a committed
and dedicated council and it comprises of students from the
various houses we have within the school.
The student council meet weekly to discuss issues. We have
worked very hard this term in helping with various events.
Our focus for the past few weeks has been about revising the
school lunch menu. We are looking forward to the tasting session
with the Head Chef before the end of this school term iA!
In the new term the student council will be inviting key members
of staff to discuss school issues including Mr Laher (Head teacher)
and Mr H Suleman (Chair of Governors) to look at improvements
within the school and Mr I Patel to give our ideas on teaching and
learning aspects within the school.
Leicester Islamic Academy (primary) student council will be visiting
the reps from MSF to see how we work; both schools will share
ideas and find opportunities to have links to MSF in various areas.

Standing up for what's right has never been easy, neither in the
past nor in the present.
Students at MGS were challenged with a Blactivist competition,
which encouraged them to stand up for equality in their own bold
and creative way. The girls were given a website that
acknowledged the contributions that black women have made/
continue to make to British society. They were then instructed to
make something in recognition of the female figure who inspired
them most of all.
Entries were fantastic, ranging from canvasses, draw-my-life-
videos, 3D timelines, and ample baked advocacy. These were all
showcased for the delight of the student/ staff body on 24/10/17.
In this way, MGS celebrated Black History Month in a fun and
innovative way, helping students to value the achievements British
women have made.
Well done to all the entrants, we're all proud of your advocacy!
Special thanks to Ms, Naroot who hosted the competition in the
library and acted as a judge.
We hope everyone had a chance to see the incredible work put
together by all the groups who entered when it was on display in
the reception area and that you were as impressed by the entries
as we were.

This is a time of positive change at the school!
Pupils respect the school’s core values but are not
afraid to challenge leaders if they want change.
Leaders make sure pupils are looked after well.
The great majority of pupils enjoy coming to school
and pupils’ attendance has continued to be high
and few pupils are regularly absent.
Pupils’ support for each other is striking and has a
notable impact on their learning.
Pupils behave exceptionally well and that recently,
we have reinforced very high expectations of pupils’
conduct.
We have a broad and balanced curriculum that
equips pupils well for modern British society
The excellent pastoral system equips pupils to deal
with the most common risks they face, including those
online
We have a strong commitment to safeguarding and
the public sector ‘Prevent’ duty. Leaders’ work to
prevent extremism and protect pupils from this
danger is exemplary.
We aim to build on the abovementioned recognition from
the inspectorate and strive onwards, towards the Madani
vision of world class to provide a pleasant, purposeful
learning community in which each student has the
opportunity to develop and achieve. As a result, we place
an emphasis on our school principles of Honesty, Excellence,
Accountability, Respect and Tolerance (HEART). As
mentioned by Ofsted, our maxim is ‘we’re here to learn’,
which applies to all members of the learning community; as
we work together in what we believe to be a special place.
I sincerely pray that we can work together in the coming
terms and years ahead and look forward to a successful and
happy time at Madani for your child.
Yours sincerely | Wasalam

At Madani Schools Federation we are always looking for ways to extend students’
learning and improve the progress made by students. We have recently invested in
SAM learning, a unique online resource that all students at Madani have access to. It
covers all the main curriculum areas in Key Stages 3 and 4. There is clear evidence
through research that by regularly using SAM Learning your child will make more
progress in their learning.
SAM Learning can help your child with their homework, research work, testing their
own understanding of a topic or simply increase their knowledge in a chosen subject
area. SAM Learning is free to use and because it is online your child can access it from
home as well as from school, on tablets, phones and computers.
The service enables homework to be set and marked which means that you can
easily monitor the progress of your child. We hope that your child is able to take full
advantage of SAM Learning and thank you in advance for supporting the initiative.

behaviour, rewards and attendance. It is updated every hour, providing you with
instant information to support conversations at home and with school.
If you have not yet done so please contact the school reception for your child’s
