They had been good friends for over ayear. Could talk about everything withoutupsetting one another. All this time theyactually avoided anything in thephysical or bed-bit. They wantedto get to know each other beforetrying anything else. After abouta year they decided that maybe itwould be time to to try livingtogether just to see how it wentwith maybe a future.

He was an early riser just fullof energy from the minute he gotout of bed. Unfortunately she was a lateriser and it took quite a while for her toeven feel civilized at getting up ready to goin the early morning. No talking, no noth-ing until her brain felt that it was time toface the morning and its problems. If any-thing it was “Watch out buster” on anyattempt at action as she was waking up.

He of course was not aware of this partof her and started out by making coffee forthem both. He brought her a cup sat downbeside her, extended the cup with a great

big ”Good morning, what a beautiful dayfor us to get going.”

Her mind was still groping with hersleep. No mood for anything butto cut off this unholy cheeryvoice at this unearthly hour. Shepushed out blindly trying to cutoff this unearthly sound. “Can’tyou see I’m trying to get up, whyall that damn noise?” She swungwildly and knocked the coffeeinto his bathrobe.

She walked back into the bed-room where he was sitting staring at themess on his bathrobe. Put her arms aroundhim and whispered, “Good morning,” hepushed her away, “You messed up my newbathrobe... You’ve killed my day, who doyou think you are?” screaming as sheyelled. End of conversation... and end, end, end.

The moral is the early bird might carchthe worm. But if he deals with a late riser,he might end up being the worm.

That is a problem.

There is a well-known, massive, bronzestatue in Rockefeller center, 45 feet tallweighing 7 tons, of the Greek god Atlas. TheTitan god Atlas is a famous figure fromGreek mythology. He led the war against theOlympic gods and lost. He was condemnedto carry the world on his shoulders, as pun-ishment, for all eternity. He is a symbol ofstamina, strength, resilience and heroicendurance.

You may be carrying the world on yourshoulders just like Atlas. You may beweighed down with problems, responsibili-ties, and worries. Unlike Atlas, you haveoptions. You can lay your burdens down, letthem go and let them out. These burdens sapyour strength and life force. Persistence, perseverance, fortitude and tenacity areadmirable traits but they can do great harm tothe human body, spirit and psyche. Enduringa prolonged strain, like Atlas, over a period

of time can make you sick and even kill you.Atlas is a myth and a god you are human.

If you absolutely, positively cannot layyour burdens down then, in order to surviveand be well physically, mentally and emo-tionally, you will have to adjust your attitudeand change your frame of mind. You willhave to reduce the weight of the world onyour shoulders in some way.

Instead of burdens you could see themas challenges or just plain situations.Accept them as a part of life or the “luck ofthe draw”. Change what you are doing andhow you are doing it. Create a new routinefor yourself. Create space and time for your-self. If you cannot lay your burdens downcompletely lay them down for a part of everyday. Get some help with your responsibili-ties. Talk to a professional. You definitelyneed to let out the feelings and emotions thatare caused by your burdens. Resentment, anger, guilt and despair are common reac-tions when you carry a heavy load. If theyare repressed they will add to the weight youalready carry.

When George Washington was unani-mously elected President of the UnitedStates in February 1789, he was “amid afull-blown financial crisis,” was deeply indebt and unable to pay his bills. He bor-rowed five hundred pounds to cover histravel expenses from Virginia to New Yorkto attend his presidential inauguration.According to historian Ron Chernow,“One can only imagine Washington’shumiliation, …especially on the man wholiked to emit an air of comfortable prosper-ity, …when his request for an additionalone hundred pounds for the trip wasdenied.”

When Washington returned home inDecember 1783, after being away duringthe Revolutionary War for some eightyears, he found Mount Vernon to be inneed of major repairs. Thereafter, the per-sistent failure of his corn and wheat crops, due to a draught, a frigid winter and asevere chinch bug infestation, had slashed

his income drastically. His expenses bal-looned for entertaining a long line of invit-ed and uninvited guests who came to meetand stay at the home of the great General. It forced Washington to repeatedly dundelinquent debtors. On the eve of theConstitutional Convention in 1787,Washington confessed to his propertymanager that “My estate for the past 11years has not been able to make endsmeet.” He was in arrears for taxes on hiswestern lands for 1785, 1786 and 1787.His attempt to sell his western lands in therecession was unsuccessful. On three occa-sions, he rebuffed the sheriff of FairfaxCounty when he came to collect arrears onMount Vernon taxes. While his name wasbeing bandied around for President of theUnited States, Washington struggled des-perately with his debt load. Just asWashington had renounced his salary asCommander in Chief of the ContinentalArmy, he let pride interfere with goodjudgment and tried to waive his presiden-tial salary, but Congress (fortunately forWashington) insisted that he accept thehandsome sum of $25,000 per annum, thusresolving his financial problems.Washington said not a word of his finan-cial troubles to his political associates,“who never knew of the handicaps he over-came.”

I liked the new Audi allroad when attend-ed the press preview last summer and drovethe car across the Colorado Rockies; I likedit even more after test driving it in Miami’straffic-snarled streets for a week.

The allroad (Audi specifically spells thename without caps for some unknown rea-son) is best categorized as a station wagon, albeit, a very nice station wagon. It combinesall-weather road capabilities with the drivingdynamics and style that are hallmarks toAudi.

The allroad returns following a seven-yearhiatus and it debuts in a package thatimproves on the original in significant ways— it is faster and more fuel efficient and itbenefits from all of the technological advan-tages that the Audi product line has experi-enced during the past decade.

The new allroad combines what premiumbuyers are looking for in a rugged crossoverwith the refinement of an executive sedan. It

is powered by the 2.0 TFSI turbocharged anddirect-injected, four-cylinder engine thatdelivers 211 hp and 258 pounds-feet of torqueand is paired with a fuel-efficient eight-speedautomatic transmission. Audi engineers havetuned the allroad to deliver plenty of torque atthe right times for effortless passing, acceler-ating from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds.Quattro all-wheel drive is standard.

The allroad has a new electromechanicalsteering system that saves weight andimproves fuel economy — part of the Audiultra philosophy of optimizing materials while,at the same time, improving performance.

The allroad is at home on today’s urbanroads and gravel driveways alike, and areprogrammed Electronic Stability Controlassists drivers in bad weather and just aboutany other kind of driving condition.

As for design, the allroad has a uniqueSingleframe grille design with verticalchrome struts and angled upper corners, stainless steel skid plates and side sills, con-trasting body trim and alu-optic aluminumraised roof rails. Matte-finished lowerbumpers and wheel arches are standard, while paint finishes are available in GlacierWhite, Ice Silver and Phantom Black.

The allroad has the new Audi designtheme of sleek headlights and — in versions

equipped with xenon-plus lights — the sig-nature new LED lighting design. Circular foglights finish off the front and circular dual-exhaust openings mark rear.

The standard panoramic sunroof adds tothe cabin’s spacious feeling. Interior refine-ments include eight-way power seats, option-al heated front seats, a choice of three woodinlays, and a 505-watt Bang & OlufsenSound System with 14 speakers, which auto-matically adjusts volume and timbre to ambi-

ent noise in the car. The Sport Interior pack-age for allroad features 12-way power frontsports seats and Driver Assistance.

Pricing on the 2013 Audi allroad starts atunder $40,000.

BY RUSSEL LAZEGA, Attorney and Author

Okay, looking backthrough this late-night finaldraft of my monthly col-umn, I’m wondering nowwhether maybe I shouldhave titled this piece:“What Not to Expect fromFlorida’s New P.I.P. Insur-

ance Law” – since here we are in January2013, the starting date for much of GovernorScotts’ sweeping P.I.P. insurance reformpackage, and the most-important changepromised by our executive leadership –namely, lower insurance premiums forFlorida drivers – is nowhere to be found.“Wait, be patient,” insurers say, “We just

need a little more time to figure out thesechanges.” In the meantime, as of this week, most insurers have actually requested rateincreases in response to the new law or sim-ply requested less of an increase than theyhad previously sought. How, you ask?Under the new P.I.P. law, insurers are author-ized to dramatically scale back coverage andslow down payments but no one ever actu-ally required them to reduce rates. There’sjust a suggestion that insurers rollback pricesor send an “excuse” note to the InsuranceCommissioner explaining why rates aren’tdropping. That’s it. As you can guess, mostcar insurers chose Option B.So what did we consumers get from this

reform designed to put money back in ourpockets? In short, we got less coverage formore money. Here’s an overview of whatwill apply for policies issued or renewed asof January 1, 2013:1) P.I.P. coverage is reduced by 75%

(down from $10,000 to $2,500) if it’s deter-mined that there is no “Emergency Medical

Condition.” Bruises, fractures, disc injuriesand even trips to the ER can be deemed non-emergency.2) Insurers can delay a claim an additional

60 days to investigate for fraud, bringing thetotal to as much as 120 days to pay a claim.3)Massage and acupuncture are no longer

covered.4) Patients must see a qualified physician

within 14 days or they’re not covered.5) Injuries not mentioned in the initial

medical records may also be denied.6) Treating doctors and hospitals can also

expect lower reimbursements based on newfee schedules reducing payments by 25% -35% in most cases.7) Finally, if you thought your P.I.P. claim

was going to be quick and painless – thinkagain. The general feeling among the major-ity of our population is that we are in avery insecure and treacherous time. And itcould get a lot worse! Many are looking atthe un-employment rate; health insuranceuncertainty; Terrorism, fraud and scandalin high places as if they were all insur-mountable problems. They are insur-mountable unless steps are taken to over-come them. If we take a strong moral andBiblical stand against those things they canbe overcome. But will that make ussecure? Will the FDIC, EPA, FEMA,Homeland Security, or the CIA reallymake us secure?

Probably not! So we need to look atsome foundational facts that prove wwee ccaannbbee sseeccuurree if our trust is in God and not inman or the government. Moses recordedone of God’s most basic commands: “Lovethe Lord your God with all your heart andwith all your soul and with all yourstrength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5). A shorttime later Moses was reciting the blessingsthat the Lord had promised to theIsraelites: “Let the beloved of the Lord rreessttsseeccuurree iinn HHiimm,, for He shields them all daylong and the one the Lord loves restsbetween God’s shoulders.” (Deuteronomy33:12) When issuing the TenCommandments, God very clearly identi-fied those who are ‘beloved by him’;“Showing love to a thousand generations

of those who love me and keep my com-mandments.” So it is quite simple to seewho is loved by God and who is not. If youare among the ‘have-nots’ you have everyreason ttoo bbee iinnsseeccuurree!!

The Psalmist, David, knew what itmeant ttoo bbee sseeccuurree; He said, “Lord, youhave assigned me my portion and my cup;you have made my lot secure. The bound-ary lines have fallen for me in pleasantplaces; Surely, I have a delightful inheri-tance.” He covered every aspect of life.

Speaking of his portion, David consid-ered that to mean all the days of his lifehere on earth. As he said in Psalm 23:6“Surely goodness and mercy will followme (or be right with me) all the days of mylife.” His cup refers to all of the experi-ences he faced in his life-time. “Though Iwalk in the midst of trouble, you preservemy life.” (Psalm 138:7). His lot was hisfuture; Nathan, his advisor, said to him:“This is what the Lord says, ‘Your houseand your kingdom will be established for-ever.’” (2 Samuel 7:16). The boundarylines set for him were all of the guidelinesset out in God’s commands; “The preceptsof the Lord are right, giving joy to theheart.” (Psalm 19:8). And David had adelightful inheritance set aside for him;“Even though I walk through the valley ofthe shadow of death” at the end of this life“I will dwell in the house of the Lord for-ever.” (Psalm 23:4-6)

What made David secure? He knewhe was loved by God because he lovedGod and His precepts. With that taken careof everything else was secure. Ask your-self, “HHooww sseeccuurree aamm II??????””
