copter pilot who was frustrated over dam-age and tampering in crowded hangarsand unsecured ramp parking areas. ThesHeli-Port provides protection whereverthe aircraft calls home. It can be posi-tioned on the back deck, the dock, in thebackyard, on the airport ramp, or even ona yacht.

“Many people share hangar space tokeep costs down and some even store farmore than just a helicopter in theirhangars. However, that can end up cost-ing far more than it saves. I’ve seen veryexpensive damage take place in crowdedhangars,” said sHeli-Port inventor andPresident Ben Hanafin. “Your aircraft isnot much safer on the ramp or on yourproperty when it is exposed to weather el-ements, the kids, curious pedestrians andthe like. I designed the sHeli-Port to solvethese problems and to be the ideal storagesolution for helicopters.”

The sHeli-Port offers a rail mountedlanding pad. Upon shut down, the pad iseasily pulled into the shells. Hydrauliccontrols close the sHeli-Port, securing theentire helicopter inside. For those withlimited space, the sHeli-Port has a padthat rises above the shells. Upon aircraftshut down, the pad lowers hydraulicallyinto the sHeli-Port before the shells close.Power is provided by solar charged bat-tery systems or, where available, groundbased electricity.

The sHeli-Port is fully portable.Meeting federal highway width/heightstandards for a regular load, the sHeli-Port can be transported on a trailer be-tween locations with little effort.

sHeli-Ports can be rented or pur-chased outright. This spring, the sHeli-Port will be shipped internationally forthe first time.

Spiralock self-locking fasteners holdmission-critical equipment securely fas-tened under the most extreme conditions.

Spiralock’s innovative thread designfeatures a 30 degree wedge ramp at theroot of the female thread which allowsthe bolt to spin freely relative to femalethreads until clamp load is applied. Thecrests of the standard male thread formare then drawn tightly against the wedgeramp, eliminating radial gap clearancesand creating a continuous spiral line con-tact along the entire length of the threadengagement. This continuous line con-tact spreads the clamp force more evenlyover all engaged threads, improving re-sistance to vibrational loosening, axial-

torsional loading, joint fatigue, and tem-perature extremes. Further benefits ofSpiralock include reduction of galling be-tween screw and fastener and extendedreusability for exceptional productlongevity.

NASA was among the first to appre-ciate the advantages of the Spiralockthread, when designing the main enginesof the Shuttle orbiter. Each of the threemain engines develops 400,000 poundsof thrust and terrific vibration. But theSpace Agency also wanted a 15-cyclereuse capability per fastener. Under itsown test, NASA determined the fastenersin Spiralock-threaded holes did not backoff or loosen when subjected to 10 timesshuttle-specified vibrations, and theystayed that way 10 times longer thancalled for. NASA tests found the Spi-

ralock fasteners delivered 50 uses with noloss of locking performance.

For the current Cassini-Huygens mis-sion across 750 million miles of space,NASA used the Spiralock thread form toresist vibration and temperature-inducedthread loosening on mass spectrometer in-strumentation used for atmospheric meas-urement of Saturn and Titan. Together inthe Cassini orbiter and Huygens probe, several hundred fasteners had to maintainvacuum-tight sealed cavities from finalassembly and testing through launch, untilthe end of the mission.

To better serve customers’ evolvingneeds, Spiralock engineers work on newproduct designs addressing developmentsin the aerospace and spaceflight industry.Current industry trends show ongoing ef-forts to increase fuel efficiency, tactical

mobility, and payload capacity in aero-space design, driving engineers to findnumerous ways to reduce mass throughthe extensive use of lightweight materialssuch as composites, aluminum, and plas-tics. In most structural joints using light-weight materials, the parent materialneeds to be reinforced through the use ofa wire insert, molded/potted insert or ul-trasonic insert. Spiralock offers all ofthese products with its unique threadwhich allows for superior locking per-formance when compared to standardthreads and prevailing torque threads.

and most efficient way to move their hel-icopters. They take pride in saying thattheir tugs were designed by the customerfor the customer. Their motto is neverending improvement.

As part of their vision they wanted avehicle that was all weather capable. They use soft solid rubber tires with adeep tread pattern. They also have chainsspecially made for their vehicles whichprovide superior traction in snow and ice.Helicopters are a valuable investment. That’s why Tiger Tugs chose smoothpowerful electric motors controlled bythe latest state of the art motor controllersoperating through heavy duty industrial

transaxles. Operation is extremelysmooth at all throttle settings. You cancreep their tugs smoothly at just millime-ters at a time or run across the ramp atmore than 3 mph. All without any jerki-ness, sudden starts or stops.

Tiger Tugs produces three differentmodels. Their model 5.0 which is de-signed to move helicopters weighing upto 5,000 pounds, their model 8.0 whichmoves helicopters weighing up to 8,000pounds, and their model 8.0B which isthe safest and easiest design out there formoving the Bell 429. They also have anew design under development for han-dling the MD 500/600 helicopters. Cur-

rently the only way to pick up this type ofhelicopter is by the skids. The feedbackthey are getting is this is not an ideal wayto handle that helicopter because the skidsand struts are very springy and whengoing over hangar rails, bumps or crackshas the helicopter bouncing around like arowboat on the ocean which is not safeand very hard on the undercarriage.

Tiger Tugs are designed for one per-son operation while being safe and reli-able for many years to come. They offera simple design with powerful results. For further information, contact TigerTugs at www.tigertugs.com, 541-585-4041 or stop by Booth #N5604.

company into a successful future.

Q: Please start by telling us a bit aboutthe company and what you do.

A: Howell Instruments is primarily anengineering company with completemanufacturing capabilities. We have avery rich history rooted in customerproblem solving, and that’s really whatwe’re about. Our engineers work in theaviation community listening to pilots, maintainers and managers. Once a spe-cific problem is defined, they collabo-rate with the end-user and design, develop and deliver a solution. We re-cently designed and built a customized‘plug and play’ suite of upgraded engine

instruments for a fleet of Dash 7 air-craft. The customer was able to installthe suite upon delivery with zero modi-fications to the aircraft.

Q: What would you say makes yourbusiness unique?

A: Two things: agility and experience. We are a small company with a well-rounded talent pool and tremendous man-ufacturing capability. We can operateprofitably with smaller production runsthan larger companies, so we’re success-ful with highly specialized projects. Onthe other hand, our infrastructure allowsfor virtually 100 percent growth in a veryshort amount of time—enabling us tosystematically increase output to meetour full capacity. And that is backed bysix decades of experience building prod-

ucts for an incredibly diverse customerbase – U.S. commercial and Departmentof Defense, private aviation, as well asinternational commercial and govern-ment agencies. Very few companiescombine that level of technical expertise, production experience, manufacturing re-sources and market presence all in oneplace.

Q: What’s your focus going forward?

A: The big picture will always be sup-porting our customers and growing ourbusiness. But in the current economicenvironment, it’s also critical to stickwith our core competencies. We’vebeen hugely successful in extractingand accurately processing gas turbineengine information and presenting it tooperators in a useable format. Even

the most advanced technologies still re-quire traditional engine parameters tofacilitate real-time information. Withrecent improvements in real-time diag-nostic/prognostic algorithms, paramet-ric accuracy is paramount, and that’swhere our expertise comes into play.I’d like to invest our efforts into forg-ing partnerships with larger firms.Partnering with larger companies willenable us to expand our business whilebroadening our customer support. That’s a winning scenario for Howell, our partners and the entire aviationcommunity.

A: We are introducing two new PitotStatic testers that are ideally suited for thehelicopter market. We believe that theseproducts will be extremely beneficial tocompanies that provide helicopter main-tenance. The features included in theseproducts, combined with their aggressiveprice, should make them almost irre-

sistible to the users. And once they buyour product, they will begin to experiencewhat we call ‘The Laversab Advantage.’

Q: What exactly do you mean by ‘TheLaversab Advantage?’

A: It’s really quite simple. Laversab pro-vides highly reliable products that areeasy to use. In addition to this, we pro-vide outstanding service and support toour customers all over the world. Weprovide free on-site training and all thehelp a customer may need with acces-sories like aircraft adapters and hose-kits. Our products need to be calibrated annually.

This calibration can be done by any of our14 authorized service centers, located indifferent parts of the world, with a typicalturn-around time of two to three days. Ourdistributors and service centers can alsoprovide loaner units, free of charge, if a cus-tomer ever has any problems.
