your background.

A: I have been in the decorative concreteindustry since 1989. This is the 24th yearI have been at World of Concrete whichfor the first time is more than half my life.I have been always been involved withgreat companies in the industry and haveoverseen the formulation, marketing andfield testing of some amazing new prod-uct lines.

Q: You are with iCOAT Products now, what makes them stand out?

A: iCOAT represented a unique oppor-tunity for me. I had the chance to com-pletely rethink not only a product line

but a business model. I always like totell people that if they had a brand new, never used, 1999 model car and were todrive it immediately after driving a2013 model that the differences in tech-nology would be astounding. iCOATinvests heavily in R&D and drives themarket through the innovations we arecontinually making.

Q: That’s interesting; tell us moreabout that and what new technologiesare on the horizon?

A: There have been huge advances inpolymer technologies over the last fewyears; we have worked that and manyother performance enhancing additivesinto our product line. We have an ionicbonding agent that multiplies coat to coatadhesion for sealers as well as concrete

based products. I think that the next waveof advancements to our industry will befrom some of the nanotechnology mate-rials becoming available. We are alreadyincorporating nano-pigments into ourMetal Illusion line but I see a day whenscratches in coatings will literally be ableto ‘heal’ themselves.

Q: You mentioned revising not onlyproducts but also your business plan;please explain.

A: Typically decorative concrete prod-ucts are manufactured by large compa-nies and sold through concrete supplystores with salespeople that have little orno experience with the product lines.Decorative concrete is such an individualexpression that it requires proper trainingand tech support to create successful

installers. At iCOAT we sell our productsthrough smaller distributors that also havean installation side to their business. Wework with them so they can work withtheir local contractors to assure a qualityend product.

Q: Does iCOAT have distributorseverywhere?

A: I would love to say we do, but thereare still many gaps we need to fill in thiscountry and abroad.

Q: How would a potential customer getmore information?

A:We will be at the WOC 2013 in Booth#S12453 or can always be reached at 877-669-1110 or visit our website atwww.iCOATProducts.com.

Double Wall Fuel TrailersThunder Creek’s double wall fuel trailersare compliant with the EPA’s Spill Preven-tion Containment Countermeasures andmeet DOT406 regulations. The double walltank design allows for 110 percent contain-ment by incorporating a 990 gallon steelfuel tank mounted inside a protective sec-ondary tank. The pumping system, fill portsand vents are located within the secondarytank and secured behind two lockable,hatch-style doors. The tank can detach fromthe trailer converting it from a mobile fuel-

ing station to a secure, on-site solution. The double wall tank and trailer can

be augmented with a rear utility box, sidetool cabinets, and Thunder Creek’s exclu-sive 100 Gallon DEF Delivery Systemfor handling diesel exhaust fluid. Thissystem features a 100 or 330 gallon stain-less steel tank and a patent-pending 2-in-1 pumping system capable of both fillingand emptying the DEF tank. The sealedand closed system meets ISO 22241 stan-dards for handling DEF.

The vast Laurie River is renownedfor its ability to produce big, big fish inthe northern pike, walleye and lake troutcategories.

It’s standard practice to catch pikemore than 30 inches. If luck is with you,

a few brutes measuring 40 inches willoffer unsurpassed bragging rights (andpossibly a sore shoulder the next day). And if the stars align, you may join anelite club of anglers who have boatedpike in the 50-inch range. Laurie Riveralso boasts a plentiful walleye populationthat will provide hours of non-stop ac-tion, not to mention a most deliciouslunch. And if you have a little bit of en-ergy left, you’ll need every ounce tobring an elusive, stubborn and very biglake trout into the boat.

Laurie River Lodge is just one ofManitoba’s hundreds of premium fishinglodges that offer a unique brand of vaca-tion. Every corner of the province has an-

gling opportunities. Their ro-bust fishery owes its success toa province-wide effort that in-cludes barbless hooks to ensurethe health of a fish that is re-leased. Most Manitoba lodgeshave adopted a catch-and-re-lease program, meaning everybig fish goes back into the laketo fight another day. The only exceptionis fish that are kept for daily shore-lunches.

Take your pick from drive-to or fly-in destinations. Some lodges are perfectfor do-it-yourselfers that prefer to launchtheir own boats and cook their ownmeals. Other lodges take care of all the

history of Kubota and an overview ofyour business today?

A: Kubota Tractor Corporation cele-brated 40 years in the United States in2012. Its parent company, Kubota Cor-poration, was established in Japan in1890; however, Kubota established itselfin California in 1972 and introduced itsfirst 12-horsepower, four-wheel drivetractor in 1974. Over the past fourdecades, Kubota has continued to ex-pand its products with four lines of trac-tors and successfully introducedcompact construction equipment, com-pact track loaders, turf equipment, lawnand garden equipment, utility vehiclesand a variety of performance-matchedimplements and attachments. Kubota

Q: Please tell us about your construc-tion products and your vision for2013?

A: Kubota’s increased emphasis in theconstruction market is a natural fit forKubota’s strategic growth plan and stemsfrom our parent company’s successfulworldwide focus on excavators, and nowthe company’s newly introduced compacttrack loaders.

The vision for 2013 is to energize the

1,100-strong Kubota dealer organizationby developing and planning for excitingnew products set to be introduced overthe next five years, especially in marketswhere we have not competed before.

The TruLink pin simply replaces theOEM pin ensuring that no additionalheight is added to the installation equip-ment. This feature is important in lowclearance applications.

The systems patent pending tech-nology contained within the pin omitsdownward (perpendicular) force. Iso-lating only the necessary torque valuesimproves accuracy and durability. Allgauges and electronics are completely

sealed for use in all installation envi-ronments.

The TruLink user interface is an 8inch touch screen display that can be eas-ily mounted within the operating cab ofmost prime movers. The rugged displayis housed in an IP67 rated weather andshock proof casing. The high visibilitytouch screen allows the operator to easilyinterface with the system during installa-tion. The intuitive layout of the displayindicates all data in real time.

All installation data is recorded in-dependently for each pier and collec-

tively for all helical piers on a given proj-ect. All data is stored within the display

mixer truck business by modernizing itsFt. Wayne, Ind., mixer truck productionfacility and implementing lean manufac-turing principles. At the same time, thetruck design was closely scrutinized by en-gineers for nearly eight months, customerfocus groups were conducted and produc-tion package offerings were simplified.

“Our old truck design required 13different chassis configurations to meetall state requirements, and the 2013 truckrequires only six,” says Jim Aslin, districtmanager for Terex Roadbuilding. “Addi-tionally, we’ve streamlined drum offer-ings, so three different drums meetcustomer demand.”

Dozens of UpdatesVisitors to Terex Booth #C6227 will

see two new mixer trucks with upwardto 100 design changes. More than 20modifications take place in the cabalone. Designers gained three inches ofthe room under the hood, resulting inan additional eight inches of floorspace inside the cab. New hanging footpedals, more durable door latches, brighter LED lights and rear vents thathelp with door closing also highlightimprovements to the cab.

Designers have made it much easierto get into and out of the cab with a newhanging step that offers three-point ac-cess. Additionally, a revised bolt-on lad-der offers direct access to the chutecleanout platform.

A greater angle of wheel cut substan-tially improves turning radius and en-hances the ease of servicing for thesteering system. “This is a gamechanger,” says Aslin. “The new steering

system takes full advantage of articula-tion to reduce curb-to-curb turning radiusby 20 percent.”

The FD5000 and F DB6000 alsofeature the latest design advancementsfor truck reliability. An entirely new airsystem increases reservoir capacity andincorporates a new lift axle control mod-ule valve that reduces the number ofLACM valves by 75 percent. New bolt-on roller trunnions offer easier accessand simplified position adjustment. Ad-ditionally, a new swing chute gearboxconfiguration increases torque andmakes servicing easier.

paves with equal ease and efficiencylight-duty flatwork applications such asport decks, urban development roads, sewer tank bottoms, warehouse floors andparking lots.

The 4800’s 48-inch deep truss frameoffers variable paving widths from 12- to116-feet. Standard 18-foot truss end seg-ments offer up to 15-feet leg travel to eachside of the machine for on-the-fly variablewidth paving, so contractors can varypaving with up to 30-feet without rebuild-ing the truss frame. “For contractors usinga vibratory screed to pave one, 12-footwide slab at a time, the 4800 can pavetwice as much concrete and half the timewith half the labor force,” says LarryEben, district manager for Terex Road-building.

concrete all over the machine, creating aclean-up nightmare at the day’s end. Withit’s enclosed cover, the auger systemkeeps the machine cleaner, without con-crete splatter building up on hydrauliclines and pumps.

The 5700-C’s hydraulically con-trolled mold offset allows tremendousflexibility for the machine operator on thejobsite. Hydraulic mold sideshift andvertical adjustment allows the operator to

pour below grade, avoid concrete drains, and to lift off steel at the end of a run.

For contractors involved in parkinglot work, the 5700-C turns a radius of lessthan one meter. This tight radius steeringallows contractors to pour parking lot is-lands, eliminating expensive handwork.

Additional recent enhancements in-clude a right-hand pour option in additionto the traditional left hand set up. Con-tractors faced with projects that forcethem to pour with the flow of traffic lovethe ability to go from left to right handpouring. Converting the machine from

left to right side pour, is simple, and onlytakes a few hours.

Power Curbers’ Smart Amp controlsgive the machine the sophistication ofdigitally networked systems with the easeand simplicity of analog controls. Inex-perienced operators can easily be trainedon this system.

Standard equipment on the PowerCurber 5700-C includes a 130 HP Cum-mins engine, three Berco crawlers, twoWyco vibrators, four sensors and one curband gutter mold built to specifications.

achieves all of these goals. The Outrigger Davit was developed

for those cases in which rigging isneeded to clear a tall parapet wall orother obstacle. Perhaps there is a featureraised above the rooftop surface, suchas a penthouse wall face, decorativefaçade, or a sign that needs to be ac-cessed. The conventional approach inthese situations is to use either conven-tional scaffolding or tall stands to ele-vate the rooftop outrigger beams.

Some of the challenges associatedwith this are the amount of additional

equipment that is needed to be lugged upto the rooftop (materials & labor), as wellas the difficulty in dealing with rear beamcounterweights for an outrigger beamthat is 5, 6, 7 or more feet off of therooftop surface.

With a pivoting mast, the OutriggerDavit can be set up and rigged fromrooftop level. Once in position, the mastand boom are tilted up and locked intoplace. The suspension wire rope can thenbe lowered over the edge, completing theinstallation while maintaining conven-tional counterweight and tie-back re-quirements.

The Outrigger Davit can clear an 8foot parapet and provide up to 4 feet of

reach. It is built as an add-on that workswith WINSAFE modular outriggerbeam components that you may alreadyhave. Counterweights remain at a moremanageable rooftop level, as theywould with a conventional basic outrig-ger beam. It’s a simple installation, witha minimal amount of equipment thatcan save an installer a great deal ofextra time and effort.

You can see the Outrigger Davitsetup for yourself at Booth #N1353 in theNorth Hall at the World of Concrete. Formore information about a wide variety ofaccess solutions, visit WINSAFE onlineat www.winsafe.com or contact them di-rectly at 905-474-9340.
