AWWA FTP Site Instructions AWWA has an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) site available for large file transfers. A number of FTP programs are available, which are special applications designed for FTP, or you can simply use the built-in capabilities of Windows or Mac OSX. If you prefer to use an FTP program, we recommend FTP Voyager for Windows (http://www.ftpvoyager.com/) and Fetch for Mac (http://www.fetchsoftworks.com/). You can use any FTP program you are comfortable with, however. Use your program’s documentation to log into your FTP site using the information we provide separately. If you do not think you will be using FTP very often, we recommend simply using the built-in FTP capabilities of Win- dows or Mac. Use the quick descriptions below to access your FTP location. NOTE: DO NOT give your FTP user name and password to anyone you do not trust. Giving people this information gives them access to your website! Windows 1. Move your mouse over the Start button and RIGHT-click the mouse instead of clicking the left button. In the little pop-up window, click on Open Windows Explorer. 2. This will open up Windows Explorer. Resize this window so that it covers about half of your screen from left to right.

AWWA FTP Site InstructionsAWWA has an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) site available for large file transfers.

If you do not think you will be using FTP very often, we recommend simply using the built-in FTP capabilities of Win-dows or Mac. Use the quick descriptions below to access your FTP location.

NOTE: DO NOT give your FTP user name and password to anyone you do not trust. Giving people this information gives them access to your website!

Windows1. Move your mouse over the Start button and RIGHT-click the mouse instead of clicking the left button. In the

little pop-up window, click on Open Windows Explorer.

2. This will open up Windows Explorer. Resize this window so that it covers about half of your screen from left to right.

3. Navigate to the folder that has the file(s) you’d like to upload, right click and select “Open in new window”. Alternatively, hit CTRL-N to open a new window.

NOTE: You do not have to open two windows for this to work; we simply find it easier to do it this way. Use your own judgment and experience to choose the method that is right for you.

4. In the address bar of the left-hand window, type in the location of the AWWA ftp site, ftp.awwa.org, and hit the Enter key.

5. A dialog box will pop up asking for your user name and password. Enter the user name and password your AWWA staff contact has provided.

6. Now comes the easy part – simply select the files you want to upload using the right-hand File Explorer win-dow, and drag those files over to the left-hand File Explorer window and drop the files in the window.

7. After dropping the files in the left-hand window, you should see a progress bar (depending on how large the files are). If you have a fast connection such as DSL or cable, you can drag large numbers of files over at one time, and Windows will take care of uploading the files.

8. You’re done. You should now be able to see the files you uploaded in the left-hand Windows Explorer win-dow.

Downloading files is simply the reverse of uploading: Drag files from the left-hand window over to the right-hand window.

Mac OS-X1. From the Finder menu, click Go, and then click “Connect to Server…”.

2. In the resulting dialog box, type in the AWWA FTP address ftp.awwa.org.

3. Next, type in the user name and password your AWWA staff contact has provided.

4. Once connected, a Finder window will open showing the contents of your FTP site.

5. Finally, simply open a second Finder window and locate the files you want to upload, and just drag and drop them into the FTP finder window. You’re done!
