ISO MEMBERS
ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 162
countries, one member per country.
Member bodies are national bodies considered the most representative standards
body in each country. These have voting rights.
Correspondent members are countries that do not have their own standards
organization. These members are informed about ISO's work, but do not participate
in standards promulgation.
Subscriber members are countries with small economies. They pay reduced
membership fees, but can follow the development of standards.

ISO 9000 Quality management
ISO 9000 is the generic name given to a family of international
standards developed to provide a framework around which a
quality management system can effectively be implemented.
These standards were developed to help companies
effectively document the elements they need to maintain an
efficient quality system. They are not specific to any one
industry.
ISO 9000 is maintained by the International Organisation for
Standardisation (ISO) and is administered by accreditation andcertification bodies. The standards are revised every few years
to keep them up-to-date.

Principles of ISO 9000 Quality management
The ISO 9000 quality management standards depend on

Customer focus
Organizations depend on their customers and therefore should understand
current and future customer needs, should meet customer requirements
andstrive to exceed customer expectations.
Leadership
Leaders establish unity of purpose and direction of the organization. They
should create and maintain the internal environment in which people can
become fully involved in achieving the organizations objectives.
Involvement of people
People at all levels are the essence of an organization and their full involvement
enables their abilities to be used for the organizations benefit.

Benefits of ISO 9000
ISO-9000 forces an organization to focus on "how they do
business". Each procedure and work instruction must be
documented and thus, becomes the springboard for
Continuous Improvement.
Employee morale is increased as they are asked to take
control of their processes and document their work
processes.
Customer satisfaction, and more importantly customer
loyalty, grows. As a company transforms from a reactiveorganization to a pro-active, preventative organization, it
becomes a company people want to do business with.

Improved profit levels result as productivity improves and
rework costs are reduced.
Fosters the understanding that quality, in and of itself, is not
limited to a quality department but is everyone's
responsibility.
Improved communications both internally and externally
which improves quality, efficiency, on time delivery and
customer/supplier relations.
Reduced problems resulting from increased employee
participation, involvement, awareness and systematic
employee training.
