Why is the MCC brand so important?
Because it’s how people see us. How
they feel about us. And, ultimately, it’s
why they’ll choose us. From our name
and logo to the colors and language we
use—it all matters. Using the guidelines
outlined in this book is important. It
ensures we send a consistent message to
our audiences. And in turn, it builds our
brand.
Our new tagline is a hardworking three-word
phrase. The word “inspiring” works here as
both an adjective and a verb, making it all the
more memorable and brain-lodging. It
expresses that our faculty and staff inspire
students to be great every day (the verb).
And, in doing so, MCC is an inspiring
institution that creates remarkable success
stories (the adjective).

piece—when the MCC shield is used
alone.
There are two shield options. The white
outlined version is recommended for use
on black or dark backgrounds only.
4

MCC colors are gold and black.
The MCC brand's primary colors are gold,

are white when producing in full color.

INCORRECT USAGE
Please do not alter the logo in any
way (e.g., color, font, orientation,
size). Avoid using the logo in running
text, at a low resolution, or on top of
colorful backgrounds.
Shown here are examples of incorrect
usage.
The "M" in Monroeshould be optically thesame height as a "C"
12
MINIMUM SIZE AND SAFE AREA
When changing the size of the logo, the
shield and wordmark must remain
proportional. As a guide, the "M" in Monroe
should be optically the same height as a "C"
in the symbol (see right for example). Any
rearrangement of the logo is not acceptable.
Do not use the logo smaller than the
minimum size shown here.
The space around the logo, referred to as
the safe area, plays a fundamental role
when the logo interacts with other
elements. The safe area defines the
smallest allowable free space where other
elements are not allowed to intrude. For
the MCC logo, the safe area is the height
of the “M." The remaining perimeter
should be left free of other elements.
MINIMUM SIZE 2-INCH WIDE
SAFE AREA IS HEIGHT OF "M"
TYPOGRAPHY
The recommended typefaces for MCC are
Trade Gothic, Clarendon T, and Century
Schoolbook.
It is preferred that Clarendon T be used for
either headlines or subheads, Trade
Gothic be used for either subheads or
short body copy, and Century Schoolbook
be used for long body copy.

ALTERNATE TYPOGRAPHY
Trade Gothic and Clarendon T are not
widely used fonts on the Windows
platform or for other digital uses such as
websites. For this reason, it may be
necessary to use a substitute in such
applications as Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint.
If Trade Gothic is not available, please
use Arial in its place. If Clarendon T is
not available, please use Century
Schoolbook in its place.

A unique graphic pattern (“honeycomb")
has been created to work in unison with
the MCC photography and design. This
graphic pattern is an impactful branding
tool that, when used correctly, can
illustrate who we are as an organization.
This graphic pattern should only be
used by design professionals due to the
complexity of production involved.
When the pattern is used with the MCC
shield, the size of the shapes within the
pattern should be the same size as the
MCC shield. Also, the pattern is always
white with a 40% opacity.
When possible, the size of the shapes within the pattern should be the same size as the MCC symbol.
The graphic pattern is always white with a 40% opacity.
1 5
GRAPHIC PATTERN
When possible, the Monroe Community College type should be somewhere on the piece when the MCC symbol is used alone. This type may be scaled smaller when separated from the MCC symbol.
