Wear- ing the masks will be with the intention to provide a layer of protection to the poll workers, not intend- ed to allow a worker who may be feeling ill to still work. If a poll worker is ill or exhibiting symptoms of illness, he or she may not work on Election Day. Clerk issues guidelines on polling places See ELECTION, B7 Eric T. Olson, superin- tendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an- nounced the patrol has expanded its recently up- graded its Missouri AM- BER Alert System to in- clude Blue Alerts, which provides law enforcement with an early warning of threats against police offi- cers and aids in the appre- hension of suspects who have killed or seriously injured an officer. Under state law, the pa- trol has the responsibility for initiating Blue Alerts as set forth in Section 650.520 RSMo. when: nA law enforcement of- ficer is killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. nAn officer is missing in connection with official duties. nThere is an imminent and credible threat to kill or seriously injure a law enforcement officer. nThere is actionable in- formation known about a suspect for a public notifi- cation to be helpful to law enforcement. nThe law enforce- ment agency involved requests or approves the alert being issued. Missouri’s improved no- tification system stream- lined the process to get alerts to the public faster. The new system includes wireless emergency alerts, automated social media alerts and a public website, www.moalerts. mo.gov, which provides the latest information on AMBER Alerts and Blue Alerts active in Missouri at any time. The new patrol alert system directly utilizes FEMA’s Integrated Pub- lic Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) to deliver message to cellular carri- ers. Each Blue Alert will in- clude photos and descrip- tions of any suspects and vehicles if available. The new system’s automatic alert updates are designed to reduce the possibility that outdated information will continue to be shared on social media. This sys- tem also will automati- cally update the Patrol’s GHQ Twitter account @ MSHPTrooperGHQ. Members of the media and public who have sub- scribed to emailed AM- BER Alerts will already receive Blue Alerts. Sub- scribers receive immedi- ate notification any time details contained within an active alert are updat- ed. Anyone interested may subscribe to Mo-Alerts by going to www.moalerts. mo.gov, selecting “Sub- scribe to Mo-Alerts” on the left side of the web- page, entering their email address, and clicking “Subscribe.” Subscribers will receive a verification email and must click on the link provided to com- plete the process. Many factors affect the speed at which these alerts reach the public, including cellular phone carriers, broadcaster ca- pabilities and administra- tive protocols. Olson said an AMBER Alert system upgrade in December 2019 has proven to be a valuable resource and helped reduce the critical minutes between when an AMBER Alert is initi- ated and when the media and public are notified. Adding Blue Alerts to the improved system will pro- vide the same benefits, he said. Olson said streamlining this process and continu- ously providing up-to- the-minute information increases the likelihood a suspect or suspect vehicle will be located and in- creases the safety of Mis- souri’s law enforcement officers. (To date, the pa- trol has never received a request to initiate a Blue MSHP expands upgraded notification system to include Blue Alerts Alert.) The system has been fully tested internally and on FEMA’s IPAWS test servers. The patrol con- tinually looks for ways to improve the overall alert notification process. Ol- son said. Eric T. Olson, superin-tendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an-nounced the patrol has expanded its recently up-graded its Missouri AM-BER Alert System to in-clude Blue Alerts, which provides law enforcement with an early warning of threats against police offi-cers and aids in the appre-hension of suspects who have killed or seriously injured an officer.

Under state law, the pa-trol has the responsibility for initiating Blue Alerts as set forth in Section 650.520 RSMo. when:nA law enforcement of-

ficer is killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.nAn officer is missing

in connection with official duties.nThere is an imminent

formation known about a suspect for a public notifi-cation to be helpful to law enforcement.nThe law enforce-

ment agency involved requests or approves the alert being issued. Missouri’s improved no-tification system stream-lined the process to get alerts to the public faster.

The new system includes wireless emergency alerts, automated social media alerts and a public website,  www.moalerts.mo.gov, which provides the latest information on AMBER Alerts and Blue Alerts active in Missouri at any time.

The new patrol alert system directly utilizes FEMA’s Integrated Pub-lic Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) to deliver message to cellular carri-ers.

Each Blue Alert will in-clude photos and descrip-tions of any suspects and vehicles if available. The new system’s automatic alert updates are designed to reduce the possibility that outdated information will continue to be shared on social media. This sys-tem also will automati-cally update the Patrol’s GHQ Twitter account @MSHPTrooperGHQ.

Members of the media and public who have sub-scribed to emailed AM-BER Alerts will already receive Blue Alerts. Sub-scribers receive immedi-ate notification any time details contained within an active alert are updat-ed.

Anyone interested may subscribe to Mo-Alerts by

going to  www.moalerts.mo.gov, selecting “Sub-scribe to Mo-Alerts” on the left side of the web-page, entering their email address, and clicking “Subscribe.” Subscribers will receive a verification email and must click on the link provided to com-plete the process.

Many factors affect the speed at which these alerts reach the public, including cellular phone carriers, broadcaster ca-pabilities and administra-tive protocols. Olson said an AMBER Alert system upgrade in December 2019 has proven to be a valuable resource and helped reduce the critical minutes between when an AMBER Alert is initi-ated and when the media and public are notified. Adding Blue Alerts to the improved system will pro-vide the same benefits, he said.

Olson said streamlining this process and continu-ously providing up-to-the-minute information increases the likelihood a suspect or suspect vehicle will be located and in-creases the safety of Mis-souri’s law enforcement officers.
