9. Add/Drop Period

● OUSL allows students to change their subject selection after following a

course for a few weeks.

● During this period a student can select new subjects as well as unenroll from

already registered courses

● Add/Drop period will be in the first week of September 2021

● English for General Academic purpose (EGAP) & Empowering fro

Independent Learning (EfIL) will start from 12th of June (tentatively)

● Academic year will start on 18th September 2021 (tentatively)

You may register for all or EEX3467 , EEI3346 and EEI3266 if you

are offering minimum credits this year

4. Selecting Semester 2 courses

● You can select Semester 2 at ADD/DROP dates in September 2021.

● Selection of course for Semester 2 will depend on which degree programme

you hope to follow in the second year.

● From the Second year you can remain in Bachelor of Software Engineering

(BSE) degree programme or transfer to BSc in Computer Science of IT.

● You may get to know about these options during the Orientation programme

(EfIL)

7. Exemptions - Existing and how to apply

● OUSL recognises qualifications you have obtained elsewhere as long as the course you

followed is equivalent to the corresponding OUSL Course

● For example,

○ British Computer Society Certificate gives exemptions to EEX3467 Software Engineering

Concepts and Programming

○ NIBM Diploma in Computer System Design gives exemptions to EEI3266 Information

Systems and Data Management, EEI 3346 Web Application Development,EEI 3262

Introduction to Object Oriented Programming, EEX3373 Communication and Computer

Technology, , EEX3467 Software Engineering Concepts and Programming,

● All approved exceptions are given in the guidebook available at:

● For other qualifications you need to apply using the form given in Appendix 3 of the

Student Guidebook -

Payment plans

● Based on number of courses you select and installment plan, your payment voucher

will be generated.

Course Fee

● Can pay in 2 installments of 60% and 40%

● Can pay in 4 installments of 30%, 30%, 20% & 20% during the year.

EGAP Fee (LKR 5500) + Registration Fee

● Must pay 50% with first 2 installments

8. Fee Structure and Installment Schemes

Fee for 1 credit = Rs.3000 (for 2021 / 2022 academic year)

Total fees for 34 or 36 courses in Year 1 LKR 102,000 or LKR 108,000

Registration fee LKR LKR 2500 (approx)

English for Gen Academic Purposes LKR 5500

Total including EGAP & Registration fee LKR 110,000 or 116,000

● Based on number of courses you select and the installment plan, your

payment voucher will be generated.

Payment for a minimum No. credits to register

If you hope to apply for the zero-interest government Loan scheme:

1. You can take a minimum of 9 credits in Semester 1 = LKR 27000

2. Adding Rs. 5500 (EGAP) + 2500 (registration) approx.= LKR 8,000 (approx.)

3. If 4 installment plan is selected your installments would be:

1st Installment = 30 % of 27,000 + 50% of 8000 = LKR 12,100 (approx)

(at Registration)

The rest of the courses you can offer in September 2021 during ADD/DROP

period when the loan scheme is also available.

Other installments will be calculated based on number of courses you select

next.

10. Government Loan Scheme

● The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a zero-interest loan scheme for

students following the BSE Program

● Currently, the government is making the necessary administrative

arrangements to provide the loan

● The loan may be available within 4-6 weeks

● To register for the course you have to pay at least the first instalment

● When you get the loan fees paid will be reimbursed

11. Open University Bursaries and Scholarships

❖ After first year,

● Open University Enrollment Bursary

○ Annual family income less than LKR 500,000

○ Must participate in continuous assessment and other

compulsory academic activities

○ No Disciplinary action
