MacArthur Fellowship

Valery Chalidze, founder and editor-in-chief of Khronika Press and Chalidze Press, was selected in June 1985 as one of twenty-five recipients of the prestigious MacArthur Fellow- ship. Supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, these fellowships are offered to "the nation's most promising scientists, scholars, writers, artists and human rights advocates" and provide unrestricted support for a period of five years in order to allow recipients to pursue their professional work without interruption or distraction.

The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars produces a weekly radio program, Radio DIALOGUE, which features the Center's scholars and is broadcast over National Pub- lic Radio. The series includes presentations by members of the Center's Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies. OF AATSEEL

Joe Malik, Jr., who has occupied the position of Executive Secretary-Treasurer of AATSEEL for almost two decades, has announced his retirement from that position at the end of 1985. A search for his replacement is hereby formally announced, and applications are being received.

The position of Executive Secretary-Treasurer of AATSEEL carries with it enormous prestige and responsibilities, a detailed description of which may be obtained by serious applicants. Applicants should hold a senior tenured position with an institu- tion willing to commit support services to the holder of the posi- tion. Additionally, applicants should have an established reputa- tion within AATSEEL and with leading members of our field. A long-term commitment is necessary, and experience in organiza- tional and fiscal matters is highly desirable.

The position carries with it a flexible stipend from $1,000- $3,000 for the first year, depending upon the recommendation of the Executive Council, with possible raises thereafter depending on financial conditions within the organization.
