YOU HAVE TO KNOW…

It is strictly forbidden to:General prohibitions:

Enter the protected areas without paying the correspondent fee;

Disembark on the islands, without the required permit.

Alter the conditions of the visited sites;

Damage coral reefs, wetlands, mangroves, lagoons, estuaries or swamps;

Alter wildlife nesting, shelter and/or reproduction sites;

Introduce or release into the natural environment any exotic individual of flora and

fauna (e.g. dogs, cats, goats, fishes);

Pour into the sea any liquid (fuels, lubricants, cleaning products, bilge, etc.) or solid waste;

Collect fossils and/or archaeological pieces;

Cut or damage plants

Use native vegetation to build and/or start campfires;

Feed, harass or produce intense noise that could alter wildlife;

Capture or damage endemic, threatened or in danger of extinction species, or species that are

subject to special protection or regulated by international treaties without the required permit

(Some of the most common in Bahia de los Angeles are: sea cucumber, rock scallop, pearl oyster,

totoaba, whale shark, whales and dolphins, sea lions, Cortes angelfish); Fish, capture, retain, sell, damage or kill any turtle species and/or marine

mammal (e.g. dolphins, whales, sea lions).

Fish without a fishing permit;

Fail to comply with any of the specifications stated in the fishing permit;

Fish within the core zones of the MPAs;

Sport fishing Whale shark watching:For sport fishing activities the following requirements/specifications must be observed:

A sport fishing permit is required for any of its modalities (no permit is required for inland fishing)

Sport fishing permits are individual and non transferable;

Only one rod or line (no larger than 130 pounds) with hook per person is permitted. For bottom fishing up

to four hooks on a vertical line can be used;

The use of electric reels is restricted to disabled fishermen only, afterwritten authorization from the

fisheries authority;

Underwater sport fishing is allowed only in free diving style and with elastic powered harpoons. The use of artificial

lights to attract fish is prohibited;

It is forbidden to commercialize catch from sport fishing activities;

It is prohibited to fillet fish aboard the fishing boat;

Sport fishing is prohibited in:

I. Core zones of the MPA;II. Within 250 meters from commercial fishing vessels and anchored or buoyant traps; III. Within 250 meters from shores frequented by tourists;

Sport fishing will be subject to the following catch limits:

» Ten individuals a day per person, with the following specifications: • Not more than five individuals of one species;• No more than one marlin, swordfish or sharks per person, which count as five toward the

overall ten individuals;• No more than two dorado, roosterfish, shad or tarpon per person, which count as five toward

the overall ten individuals;

» Underwater fishing will have the limit of five individuals of one species per person per day;

» When sport fishing is conducted from boats out at sea for longer than three days, the catch limit will be the equivalent to three days.

When taking part on whale shark watching activities, the fo-llowing considerations must be observed:

Do not mount or touch the whale sharks.

Do not interfere with the whale shark course.

Do not photograph with flash.Do not splash while entering into the water.

Do not use jet ski vessels in the whale shark distribution areas.

Do not use recorders, microphones or any other device that can produce noise

or sound that alter the whale sharks or other wildlife.

Do not bring pets on board.Do not get closer than one-meter from the head and two meters

from the tail.

Use environment friendly sun block and sun tan lotions. Before entering the sea remove it from the body with a towel.

Season begins june 1st.

And ends on december 15.

Decrease the boat speed to 5 mph or lower
