Joint Activities with GIZ Nexus Project

How to make it work

GIZ NEXUS: INTEGRATED RESOURCE

MANAGEMENT

• The nexus approach aims at contributing to sustainable development through the integrated planning and management processes of the key sectors of energy, water, and food security.

• The project is providing technical advice to municipal administrations/planning offices to oversee the design, planning and, where possible, implementation of practical nexus initiatives

• Bantan Waste-to-Energy model is an example of converting burden (solid waste) into resource for electricity production – solving environment and social problem while achieving profitable ecological business model

BANTAN’S (SSLTES) MODEL REDUCES ENVIRONMENT

AND SOCIAL IMPACT

Sustainable Sanitary Landfill to Energy System (SSLTES)Landfill lining - Protection of leachate contaminating the soilLeachate Collecting and Treatment – Reduces odor from leachate and preventing untreated leachate being discharged into the environmentLandfill Gas Collecting and Utilization – Reduces odor from landfill gas and green house gas effect (20 x CO2)Daily (soil) Cover and Small Open Area (Working Surface) Dumping Method – Reduces possibility of wind blowing away the garbage, reduces insects and other animals, reduces odor, reduces possibility of fireFinal covering (when the landfill cell is closed) – Reduces the production of leachate through precipitationLandfill Rehabilitation Plan – Allows the land to be reused for landfilling, and extract valuables from the old garbage: RDF, Daily Cover, Fertilizer, and sellable metals and glass etc.Usage of Leachate and decomposed organics as fertilizer – Enable the surrounding landfill area to be used fro growing vegetation – plants which are not within the food chain.
