*The Prayer of confession for BaPTism God of mercy, We thank you for the gift of baptism by water and the Spirit. Keep us mindful of the promises we have made to repent and forsake the ways of sin that alienate us from you and each other. Give us grace to call Jesus Christ our Savior and serve him as our Lord. We acknowledge that we have not always been diligent, that we at times fail to represent Christ in the world and to support his church in unity and praise. Forgive and cleanse us; Make us faithful members of Christ’s body. In the name of Christ, your beloved Son. Amen.

Proclamation of the WordThe offerinG

The offerTory anThem 8:30 For Those Tears I Died Gaither

Sung by Julie CaldwellYou said You’d come and share all my sorrows, You said You’d be there for all my tomorrows; I came so close to sending You away, But just like You promised You came there to stay; I just had to pray! And Jesus said, “Come to the water, stand by My side, I know you are thirsty, you won’t be denied; I felt ev’ry teardrop when in darkness you cried, And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died.” Your goodness so great I can’t understand, And, dear Lord, I know that all this was planned; I know You’re here now, and always will be, Your love loosed my chains and in You I’m free; But Jesus, why me? And Jesus said, “Come to the water, stand by My side, I know you are thirsty, you won’t be denied; I felt ev’ry teardrop when in darkness you cried, And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died.” Jesus, I give You my heart and my soul, I know that without God I’d never be whole; Savior, You opened all the right doors, And I thank You and praise You from earth’s humble shores; Take me, I’m Yours. And Jesus said, “Come to the water, stand by My side, I know you are thirsty, you won’t be denied; I felt ev’ry teardrop when in darkness you cried, And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died.”

9:45 & 11:00 “Come to the Water” arr. SchraderSung by the Sanctuary Chior O let all who thirst, let them come to the water. And let all who have nothing, let them come to the Lord: without money, without price. Why should you pay the price, except for the Lord? And let all who seek, let them come to the water. And let all who have nothing, let them come to the Lord: without money, without strife. Why should you spend your life, except for the Lord? And let all who toil, let them come to the water. And let all who are weary, let them come to the Lord: all who labor, without rest. How can your soul find rest, except for the Lord? And let all the poor, let them come to the water, Bring the ones who are laden, bring them all to the Lord: bring the children without might. Easy the load and light: come to the Lord.

*The doxoloGy Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below! Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

The scriPTure Matthew 16:13-1813 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked.“Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

The inTroducTion

The renunciaTion of sinOn behalf of the whole church, I ask you: Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin? I do. Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? I do. Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races? I do. According to the grace given to you, will you remain faithful members of Christ’s holy church and serve as Christ’s representatives in the world? I will.

The ThanksGivinG over The WaTer

AVISIONTO END WORLD HUNGERStop Hunger Now has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger across the globe for more than 14 years. Established in 1998, Stop Hunger Now coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid to crisis-burdened areas around the world. This is accomplished through popular community-supported meal packaging programs that often are part of corporate responsibility or volunteer service projects.

Stop Hunger Now distributes its meals through feeding programs operated by partner organizations in developing countries which promote education, encourage children to attend school, improve the health and nutrition of students, address gender inequalities, spur economic growth, combat child labor, and create a platform for tackling global issues. In addition to supporting school feeding programs, Stop Hunger Now also provides meals in response to crisis relief.

By educating meal-packaging volunteers about the impact of Stop Hunger Now meals and its partners’ programs on children’s health and academic performance, we have the opportunity to educate and motivate thousands of people about the issue of hunger and what can be done to eliminate this solvable problem.

What distinguishes Stop Hunger Now from other aid/relief organi-zations that are also supplying food and in-kind aid is the focus on engaging volunteers in a hands-on activity to produce meals that are used strategically to support development programs, while at the same time fostering the growth of a movement to end hunger by educating those volunteers about the need and giving them an opportunity to take action.
