MEDIA ADVISORY Contact: Todd Dorman (212) 677-4650 x18, [email protected] INCLUDEnyc: NYC Non-Profit Working on Behalf of Young People With Disabilities Announces New Executive Director NEW YORK CITY, NY; November 16, 2015 – Following an extensive search, the INCLUDEnyc Board of Directors is thrilled to announce the appointment of Barbara A. Glassman as Executive Director. “Barbara will lead the exceptional staff of INCLUDEnyc with her extensive experience, talent, skills and integrity,” said Board Chair Ellen Miller-Wachtel. “We expect the organization will have significant growth and even greater impact on behalf of young people with disabilities in New York City.” Ms. Glassman will succeed Rachel Howard, the non-profit's current Executive Director, who followed founding Executive Director Karen Schlesinger. Ms. Howard led INCLUDEnyc for eight years. She brought significant change and growth to the organization, with shifts to the outreach and service model to meet families in their communities, a strong emphasis on increased accessibility and communication, financial stability, targeted direct service to youth with disabilities, and a recent comprehensive rebranding. Most recently the Managing Director of External Engagement at Citizen Schools—a national education nonprofit—Ms. Glassman oversaw fundraising, civic engagement, communications, and government relations for the New York-New Jersey region. Prior to joining Citizen Schools, she served in multiple leadership roles for New York Cares, New York City’s largest volunteer service organization. Earlier in her career, Ms. Glassman was a strategic communications consultant at firms in Washington, DC and New York. She holds a BA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MA in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. “It is an honor to succeed Rachel Howard as Executive Director of INCLUDEnyc,” Ms. Glassman said. “I look forward to continuing to build a strong future for INCLUDEnyc and for the families we serve, and to expanding our reach to many more youth and families who could benefit from our services.” Formerly Resources for Children with Special Needs, INCLUDEnyc has helped to make New York City more inclusive of young people with disabilities for over 31 years. INCLUDEnyc helps young people through age 26 with any disability and their families in all five boroughs. Ms. Glassman begins as Executive Director of INCLUDEnyc on December 1.
