This name or title shall be the same one used during its entire execution, in the event the project is awarded. This title will be used in turn whenever it is necessary to disseminate the project's activities to the public media as may be decided by CONICYT.
2. Modality: State whether this project is submitted in the open modality or in the modality of Innovation of Public Policies.
3. Key words and Disciplines: State a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 key words related to the topic of the project that render possible to make direct reference to the same. State the closest discipline(s) where this project is encompassed.
4. Name and Signature of Main Researchers: This section of the project must contain information on who the main researchers of the research team are and the institution they come from, identifying among them the Director. The requested contact data of the Director must be included. Please do not include here the associate researchers or other categories of participation.
5. Sponsoring Institution: That which provides the physical space and support in infrastructure and general expenses to the group of researchers that submits the proposal for a Research Team in Social Sciences. It is also the one that hosts the Director and at least one main researcher. This institution is responsible for the compliance with the goals of this project before CONICYT.
6. Associated Institutions: Those public or private entities the concrete action of which may contribute to the improvement in the design and execution of the research project and/or the application of public policies in Chile. Those that participate in the execution of the project by either providing contributions in personnel, money or in kind resources, infrastructure, equipment or other facilities. They may also be entities with a contractual relationship with any participant/researcher in the project.
II. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
1) Format and page limit:
A brief and concise proposal will assist both CONICYT's personnel and the evaluators and commissions in handling them. Consequently, the description of the project may not exceed 15 pages (in letter size paper with single spacing between lines) with font ARIAL 11 or any other font of equivalent size and form that do not alter the legibility of the project. Any additional material: charts, maps, surveys and other products related with the research and other activities must be part of these 15 pages, except for the SUMMARY. In exceptional cases, appendices to this proposal shall be accepted after a request filed with the
2
BPST's Executive Director's Department via an e-mail message sent to the contact address for these purposes ([email protected]).
2) Content:
2.1 SUMMARY
The summary of the project must have a maximum length of 2 letter size pages, maintaining the margins set forth in the form.
The background information on the basis of which the project is formulated must be mentioned in a summary way. The goals and methods that will be used must also be enunciated in this summary. Explicit reference must be made of the broad impact expected as a result of the activities of research, training of human resources, national and international co-operation and dissemination and transfer of knowledge to those entities that may establish public policies and/or support the application.
This summary must be fit for publication on the CONICYT web site and to be read by prospective evaluators and researchers of the disciplines in the area as well as by other researchers in fields that are less related.
2.2 FORMULATION
The description of the project must state the general work plan including all those intended activities in the fields of research, national and international co-operation, and training of young researchers and students, dissemination and transfer towards other areas of knowledge.
The scientific problem to be solved must be described in both broad and specific terms, and to that effect the following must be included: prior background information on the state of the art in the field of development, the reasons to formulate the project in the frame of prior background, the hypotheses to be verified, the description of the specific goals for the proposed period and its expected impact, its relationship with mid- and long-term goals and current state of knowledge in the discipline or area.
Also, the detailed description of the methods to be used to reach each specific goal must be included here, making emphasis on the interdisciplinary and/or multidisciplinary characteristic of them. For those methods that are already known and developed in the respective disciplines, reference must be made only to the appropriate bibliography. In the event any modifications to the established methods and/or the development of new methods are foreseen, this must be specified in detail. Any application or methodological development must be justified.
It is important to state in this section the impacts resulting from the activities comprising research and training of researchers, interaction among institutions and/or researchers of other areas and countries and the dissemination towards the community external to the project activities.
3
Lastly, the intended interactions and links with other entities and both national and international persons, in order to apply and/or transfer the knowledge and capabilities generated in the project, must be described here.
Impact ob Public Policies: For those projects in the modality of Innovation of Public Policies, a paragraph other than that of the project formulation must present a concrete plan of activities to establish links with public and/or private entities to potentially facilitate the implementation of innovations in public policies.
These activities lead to promote the application of results of research on activities that directly contribute to the improvement of public policies in order to promote economic and social development in Chile.
References: The bibliographic material used to prepare this entire section of the project must be quoted. To that effect, the researchers must use the customary rules of any publication in the area with an editorial committee. Each reference must include the name of all of the authors, the title of the article and name of the publication, title of the book, volume number, page numbers and year of publication.
III. WORK PLAN
The time (in annual stages) in which it is intended to meet each goal must be included. To that effect the activities leading to meet each goal must be specified. It is advisable to present the goals in each category separately: research, training, co-operation and exchange, dissemination and knowledge transfer.
IV. ORGANIZATION OF THE RESEARCH GROUP
State in an organizational chart the position and the levels of interaction of the participants in the project, including those researchers who are not part of the principal group, doctorate and master students, postdocs, foreign researchers. The inter-institutional interactions with companies, public or private entities and researchers of other institutions or disciplines must be included this section.
V. BUDGET
This section is divided into three tables that segregate the contributions into contributions from this application process (BPST), those from the sponsoring Institution and those from associated institutions participating and contributing to the execution of this project.
In all the cases the allocation of budgets must be simple and in accordance with the general items stated in the tables. Once the tendering process has been awarded an annual operating plan will be requested from the approved projects, which shall be prepared with the supervision and assistance of the BPST.
4
The definition of each budget item is that which is set forth in the terms and conditions of this tendering process.
Also, it is requested to itemize and justify the fees of personnel, stating the commitment time of the various categories of researchers and the number of postdocs, dissertators, postgraduate students, research assistants and technicians.
For the case of Administrative and General Expenses of the host institution, they must be itemized and accounted for by the institution in accordance with such itemization.
VI. WORK TEAM
The résumé of each one of the main researchers and associate researchers of the project must be included. For this purpose, a personal data sheet must be filled-out -see the form- for each one of them and attach the respective résumé including publications, undergraduate and postgraduate education, teaching and other activities or experience, in particular information regarding previous collaborations among participants, considered essential for the compliance with the project goals.
VII. INDICATORS
This section contemplates the inclusion of a base line of indicators of the main researchers applying for this project and those indicators through which it shall be possible to evaluate the progress of the proposed goals during the execution of this project. In this section, applicants may include those indicators they believe most related to the impact expected to be attained through the project.
