David A. Dickinson, CRCM David’s banking career began as an FDIC field examiner in 1990. He later became a Loan Officer for a $110 million bank. In 1993, he established Banker’s Compliance Consulting. Along with his talented team, he has written numerous compliance articles for prestigious banking publications and has developed compliance seminars that Banker’s Compliance Consulting produces. David is an expert in compliance regulations. He is also a motivational speaker and innovative educator. David is on faculty at the Center for Financial Training, the American Bankers Association National Compliance Schools and is a frequent speaker at the ABA’s Regulatory Compliance Conference. He is also a trainer for hundreds of webinars, is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager and has been a BankersOnline Guru for many years. The ABA honored David with their Distinguished Service Award in 2016. Carl G. Pry, CRCM, CRP Carl Pry, Managing Director of Treliant Risk Advisors, is a seasoned executive with banking law, corporate finance, and regulatory compliance experience in Fortune 500 institutions, regional banks and industry consulting firms. Over the last 18 years, Carl has held senior leadership positions including Senior Vice President and Compliance Manager for the Compliance and Control Division at KeyBank, Manager of Finance and Performance Management Service Line at Accenture, and Vice President of Regulatory Services at Kirchman Corporation. He is a frequent contributor to and currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for the ABA Bank Compliance magazine. He is a featured speaker for numerous banking, compliance, and state bar associations and leads training sessions across the country. Carl holds a JD and an MBA from the University of Toledo and a BSBA from Bowling Green State University. He is also a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager and Certified Risk Professional. Thomas Williams, CRCM, CCBIA Thomas is a senior vice president and senior compliance manager for United Bank in Zebulon. He has been in banking for 20 years and spent the past 12 years working solely in risk management and regulatory compliance. Before joining the compliance side of banking, he worked in auditing, bank security, branch management, consumer lending and credit administration. Thomas is a graduate of Clemson University, where he earned a BS degree in Financial Management. He also holds the professional designations of Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager, Certified Community Bank Internal Auditor and At-Risk Adult Crime Tactics (ACT) Specialist.

Credit Toward CRCM Certification

The Institute of Certified Bankers of the American Bankers Association offers a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation. As a CRCM, you identify yourself as an accomplished professional who has met the highest standard for knowledge, experience and performance in the compliance field. Compliance School students will qualify for 40 hours of continuing education credit.

Dear Compliance Colleagues, On behalf of the GBA Compliance School Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that the 2018 Georgia Bankers Association Basic Compliance School will be May 6-11, 2018, at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel in Athens. GBA is once again proud to partner with the South Carolina Bankers Association for the 2018 session, and we look forward to welcoming South Carolina compliance specialists to Georgia in May! As we prepare to host our fourth Compliance School, I’d like to share what one graduate had to say about her student experience: “It is an honor and privilege to be a graduate of the 2017 GBA Advanced Compliance School. From the materials to the instructors to interacting with my classmates, the knowledge I gained has been extremely beneficial to my job each day. GBA Basic Compliance School Purpose and Philosophy The GBA Basic Compliance School is designed to provide students with a solid foundation on compliance fundamentals and ensure that a bank’s internal compliance program is sufficiently comprehensive to avoid costly compliance violations. The curriculum is intended for the bank officer or employee newly involved in compliance, or for other bankers who have at least three years of banking experience and would like a better understanding of compliance.

2018 School Dates The 2018 school session is Sunday, May 6, through Friday, May 11, 2018. Classes are held at the UGA Center for Continuing Education & Hotel, where students are also housed, on the beautiful campus of the University of Georgia in Athens.

2017-2018 GBA Compliance School Board of Directors

Admission Requirements For admission, a student must meet the following requirements: Be employed as an officer or key staff member of a bank, or a GBA Associate Member Be involved in bank compliance or have three years banking experience Be recommended by the bank’s CEO or senior management. If the applicant does not meet one of the above requirements, but the nominating officer feels the candidate is qualified, a letter from the CEO may be sent with the application explaining the circumstances for review by the Board of Directors. Bankers from outside of Georgia are cordially invited to enroll. If your bank is a member of your state banking association, we will be glad to extend the member tuition to you.

Application Process

Applicants may enroll online or submit a completed paper application. Applications must be submitted by March 28, 2018, to guarantee a hotel room. Applications submitted between March 29, 2018, and the application deadline of April 20, 2018, are welcome, but we cannot guarantee a hotel room. Tuition payment may be paid by check, credit card or bank invoice and must be paid in full by April 20, 2018.

Tuition Inclusions and Housing

Member tuition is $2,150. First Year applicants may enroll and pay by Feb. 9, 2018, and receive the early bird price of $2,020. Tuition includes: All instruction and school course materials; double occupancy accommodations for Sunday - Thursday nights at the UGA Hotel; daily breakfast and lunch; Welcome Barbecue on Sunday, May 6; and daily breaks. Students may request a private room for a $385 surcharge. All students, including local students, are required to stay on campus. All hotel rooms include: TV; wireless internet; microwave; fridge; safe; coffee maker; hairdryer; full-size iron and ironing board; and overnight parking in the conference center parking deck with in-and-out privileges. Students changing room types onsite will be responsible for any increase in room charges resulting from this change.

Faculty Jim Bedsole, CRCM, CBA, CFSA, CAFP Jim Bedsole is SVP and Chief Compliance & Risk Officer for BankSouth, Greensboro, GA. He has over 28 years of experience in managing bank risk, regulatory compliance, auditing, security, and corporate governance with both regional and community banks. Jim is a 1986 graduate of The Citadel, Charleston, SC. He is also a graduate of the ABA National Graduate School of Compliance Management. Jim is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager, Certified Bank Auditor, Certified Financial Services Auditor and Certified AML and Fraud Professional.

Patti Blenden, CPA, CRCM

Patti Blenden founded Financial Solutions in 1990 to provide community financial institutions with effective solutions for the ever increasing need for cost-effective regulatory risk management. The company provides compliance reviews, in-house training, compliance policy and procedure development for community bank clients. Patti is a frequent presenter for the American Bankers Association where she serves as a faculty member of its prestigious Stonier Graduate School of Banking and National, Intermediate and Graduate Compliance Schools. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University and 35+ years of banking experience.
